Skirting board with liquid nails. How to install a plinth on liquid nails - tools, application technology

The plinth is the final element in finishing the floor. It gives the flooring a noble appearance, hides gaps between the walls and the lower ceiling, and also helps to mask minor repair imperfections. The most popular types of floor planks are wooden and plastic baseboards. It is their installation that we will talk about.

There are several methods for installing floor plinths, namely:

  • on nails or screws;
  • on special fastenings;
  • for glue or liquid nails.

The operating technology is selected depending on the quality of the surfaces and materials from which the slats are made.

Installing skirting boards with your own hands, how to properly attach the skirting board to the floor

Installation of corners without cable duct

Installing skirting boards with your own hands, if they do not have cable ducts, can be done using all three methods. A profile mounted on a special bar with spikes looks best. It is attached to the wall using dowels, and the decorative profile is snapped onto it.

The good thing about the method of attaching skirting boards to a substrate is that the frame is quickly mounted and just as quickly dismantled; the wire can be hidden inside, even in the absence of a special box, and there are no traces of mechanical intervention left on the outside. The only bad thing about this method of operation is that after a one-time dismantling, problems may arise with re-installation.

Glue or liquid nails are rarely used when working with plastic strips due to the fact that reusing the material is not possible.

The most reliable way is to fasten the baseboard to the floor using self-tapping screws. The screws are screwed into the plank and then into the wall or floor. The distance between the screws should be about 30-50 cm (in the corners - no more than 10 cm from the joint of adjacent walls).

Laying planks with cable duct

Here everything is noticeably simpler, and therefore there is no need to think again about how to attach the plastic plinth. IN in this case the only correct option would be to use screws.

In order to install the plinth with your own hands, you need to remove the central insert, cut the plastic profile to the desired size and attach it to the mounting location. The screws are inserted into the channel and screwed into the wall. After this, the wire is placed in a box and covered with a central strip.

In exceptional cases, plastic slats can be “planted” on liquid nails. In particular, this has to be done when the walls in the apartment are loose.

Fastening plastic and wooden skirting boards, laying and installation

Installation of wooden planks on nails

Wooden decorative corners Can be attached to regular and liquid nails. Laying the plinth on the floor using metal fittings must be done very carefully, because... wooden parts may crack during nailing. To prevent this from happening, before nailing the wooden plinth, it is recommended to make small through holes at the fastening points using a drill with a thin drill bit. To avoid damage outer covering, it is advisable to drive nails through a wooden or metal spacer.

There should be a distance of about 20-30 cm between the fasteners. The fasteners should be long enough to pass through the batten and be fixed in the floor. The angle of inclination of the nail according to the standard is 70-80 degrees.

Instead of classic fittings, you can use special screws. They are convenient because it is possible to “recess” the caps inside the slats, and fill the resulting depression with wood putty.

Features of gluing with liquid nails

The theory of how to properly install a baseboard with liquid nails is not easy to master. more complex technology conventional installation with screws. To lay pre-cut wooden planks, you need to use a gun to apply an adhesive substance to the adjacent surfaces in small dots at a distance of 3-5 cm from each other, attach the baseboards to work area and hold for one minute.

Unlike plastic strips, which are closed with couplings in the corners, installing a wooden plinth involves joining the parts. Corner elements are cut at an angle of 45 degrees. For external corner the cut should be downward, and for the internal one - upward. It is convenient to use a miter box for cutting slats.

And one more important point: before installing wooden plinths, you must level the walls.

Questions and answers

How to attach a plastic skirting board

Installation of PVC skirting boards can be carried out only after calculating the exact footage using the strip itself with a corner placed on it, and not a tape measure. This will save a lot of time, nerves and material. Drilling mounting holes at a distance of 1 m is only permissible for absolutely smooth walls large footage. How to attach a plastic plinth if the walls are short, have many contours or have an error in level - just reduce the distance between the dowels. However, the distances do not have to be the same. Dowels or self-tapping screws are placed in places where the planks depart from the wall, i.e. it is necessary to additionally secure the baseboard.

We glue the baseboard with liquid nails

Myself floor plinth made of plastic, it bends quite easily and will adhere to the wall when attached to special glue or liquid nails. Additional fastening with adhesive compounds is really used in extreme cases due to the impossibility of dismantling without damage. On lightweight polyurethane skirting boards, glue is applied pointwise, approximately at a distance of 0.5 mm from the edge, so as not to stain the front surface. Important! You need to place it very carefully! Do not release the structure immediately after pressing it against the wall and apply pressure for 5-10 minutes (depending on the characteristics of the composition). Gluing is carried out starting from the corners.

Options for installing skirting boards yourself

Do-it-yourself plinth installation is done using three technologies:

  • Through screwing with self-tapping screws or dowel-nails.
  • Fastening onto specialized strips or mounting clips.
  • Gluing to panels using specialized glue.

In this case, a combined method of gluing with mechanical fixation is often used, which ensures a reliable fit and fastening. This installation method is common due to problems that arise in different mounts, so clips and latches lose their elasticity over time, which leads to unfastening, so to the question of whether it is possible to glue the loose baseboard, there is a clear answer, no problem! Moreover, during installation, the snap points are often immediately coated with glue.

We fix the plinth with cable duct

The best aesthetically is considered a plinth with a cable channel, which makes it possible to conceal electrical communications and hide installation elements, while the structure fits even to uneven walls provided by spring clips on high level. However, all this is a matter of necessity, and often, for simplicity, they choose the opposite design without a cable channel.
Installing a plinth using this technology is quite simple (see photo):

  • Fixed through and through to the wall on the " quick installation» metal channel profile.
  • If necessary, electrical communications are laid into the channel.
  • Using pressing movements until it clicks, a plastic plinth pre-cut to size, taking into account the size of the inserted plastic elements (corners, connectors), is fastened to the metal profile.

How to lay the baseboard?

Installation of skirting boards is carried out only for decorative purposes, i.e. They are unacceptable for fixing floor or wall coverings, because The material of the floor skirting boards is quite plastic and does not withstand any external loads. The main task of the installation is to hide the corner seam of the walls and floor, in which poor-quality cutting and fixing elements of the installation of finishing materials invariably occur.
Installation is carried out after all finishing works and putting things in order. But, in some cases, installation can be carried out during wall finishing work, this is due to uneven surfaces that do not stand out visually without installation straight stripes. Walls are leveled using attached baseboards without a cable duct.

Installing (fastening) a wooden plinth

The wooden plinth does not have sufficient ductility to fit tightly to uneven surfaces walls, so its installation in most cases is carried out during the period of finishing the walls with putty materials.

The installation of wooden plinths is carried out using nails or self-tapping screws of sufficient length to securely fix them, so the mounting hardware must be double thickness.
To avoid cracking of wooden skirting boards, the installation sites are drilled with a thin drill, and the head of the mounting element is recessed through a lining of the appropriate shape.

Choosing the right baseboard

Most interesting question at decorative finishing a room is like installing a plinth, because from one point of view it is a decorative element that only hides the connecting seam of the walls and floor, and from another point of view it is a kind of decorative “ruler” that emphasizes the evenness of the walls.

That is why the question of purchasing the type of plinth should be raised at the beginning of the finishing work. Wooden version It will definitely require puttying of the resulting cracks near the wall, but fixing it before laying the flooring is unacceptable. How to lay the plinth correctly in this case? In such cases, it is easier to choose the installation of a polymer plinth, which, due to its flexibility, can hide quite significant unevenness in the walls.

How to glue the baseboard to the floor

Quite often it happens that several months after the repair is completed, the baseboards come off and do not fit well to the wall and floor, and the question arises of how to glue the baseboard.
Bonding is complicated by several factors:

  • Material of baseboards and finishing materials of walls and floors.
  • Selecting the adhesive to use for installation.

These two factors are inextricably linked, because active glue can dissolve the finishing materials of walls, floors and the PVC baseboard itself, severely deforming them with an unpleasant external result. But the use of acrylic adhesives is safe, but their drying time is much longer, and the reliability of fixation is somewhat reduced, so laying skirting boards with glue often becomes tedious.

How to glue skirting boards to the floor: installation features

The plinth is designed to decorate the gaps between the flooring and the wall. In addition, it performs the function of protecting edges from damage and hiding defects.

The plank can be simple straight or can contain complex elements.

Installing skirting boards with liquid nails

Fixing the plinth to the floor can be done in several ways:

  • using screws or nails;
  • on clips or anchor fastening;
  • applying glue to the back side;
  • buy self-adhesive baseboard for the floor.

Glue or liquid nails – reliable method, allowing you to securely fasten the bar without damaging it. This applies primarily wooden products, which can crack from hammer blows.

Liquid nails: work procedure for laying skirting boards

Liquid nails are an excellent alternative to regular nails. Unlike the first ones, they do not spoil the surface, do not leave dents or marks. Securely fix the strip between the wall and the floor .

What is their advantage:

  • high-strength assembly adhesive;
  • quickly fixes fastened parts;
  • Suitable for both natural wood and artificial materials– plastic, MDF, ceramics.

They are applied to the surface using a special nozzle.

Preparing the baseboard for applying liquid nails

Sandpaper helps get rid of dirt

Before gluing the baseboard to the floor, you need to make sure that its surface is clean. To do this you should use sandpaper and lightly walk along the back of the bar.

Pay attention!
It is better to buy universal liquid nails that are suitable for any material.
They can also be used in conditions high humidity and continue to firmly hold parts during sudden temperature changes.

In addition to liquid nails, waterproof glue 88 is also used.

It is easy to use and has the following advantages:

  • High quality gluing;
  • The seam is elastic and moisture resistant;
  • Does not contain toluene - not harmful to humans and animals;
  • Glue for floor or ceiling plinths remains sticky for a long time, which allows you to work with it for a long time without fear that it will dry out at the wrong time.

Laying stages

  • hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • hammer;
  • a container with liquid nails and a nozzle for it;
  • miter box;
  • rubber spatula.

Instructions for laying skirting boards using liquid nails:

  • Measure the perimeter of the room, taking into account all ledges and niches;
  • Calculate the amount of building materials needed;
  • Buy bottles of glue;
  • Cut the plinth into pieces of the required length.

Pay attention!
You can only cut the plinth at an angle of 45◦ for joining at external and internal corners.
Before sawing off the second part, it must be compared with the first so that there is no gap at the joint.

  • Apply liquid nails, if the baseboard is narrow, then drop by drop at intervals of 5-10 cm, if wide, then in a zigzag. This guarantees the strength of the fastening.

How to glue skirting boards to the floor using liquid nails

  • The longest section is laid first, starting from the corner. The wall must be absolutely flat, otherwise the baseboard will swell.
  • Immediately after applying the glue, the plank is pressed tightly against the wall. It must be held in this position for some time for high-quality fixation. Usually about 10-15 minutes.

It must be borne in mind that if dismantled, the plinth will be deformed. It is not reusable.

The same applies to changing wallpaper; if a decision is made to change it, and the strip is glued on top of it, then it will have to be removed too.

  • If during installation some of the glue comes out, it should be removed with a rubber spatula. A front side Wipe the baseboards with a cloth soaked in water.
  • All seams and joints are filled with liquid nails and carefully leveled with the same rubber spatula.

Characteristics of self-adhesive plinth

Aluminum self-adhesive skirting board

Self-adhesive floor plinth was created specifically for those who want to carry out repairs quickly, easily and without unnecessary dirt. It appeared on the market more than 5 years ago and is suitable for decorating rooms with flooring made of laminate and linoleum.

  • It is made from soft PVC or aluminum. It is of interest for large spacious premises, residential or office. You can attach it to almost any flat surface. Self-adhesive skirting boards come in a variety of colors, for example, imitation wood.
  • It is characterized by the ability not only to bend, but also to be joined like a regular plinth using connecting elements. Aluminum is glued to the surface using mounting tape or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • When working with self-adhesive skirting boards, it is important to mark the places where it will be fixed. Since it is very difficult to tear it off without damaging the surface of the wall or itself.
  • Caring for this building and finishing element is simple - it can be washed with plain water and a liquid or cream product. Its surface is protected by an oxide film, which protects the baseboard from damage.
  • Soft baseboard tape helps protect walls from damage during cleaning.
  • During installation there is practically no scrap left - you can save money.
  • Convenient to install at any angle.
  • The price of flexible plinth is lower than its hard counterparts.

Working with self-adhesive soft PVC skirting boards

If you know how to glue the baseboard to the floor, you can greatly facilitate the repair process. First, it is important to clean the surface where it will be placed from grease, dirt or dust. To do this, you can wipe with a damp cloth soaked in water or, if the coating allows, then in gasoline.

  • With your own hands, try to carefully remove the protective tape from one edge, having previously marked the places where the baseboard will be glued.
  • Next, starting from the corner, carefully lean the plinth against the wall, pressing it down for better adhesion.
  • Make sure that the tape is laid evenly and does not move.

The soft baseboard is convenient because it already has an adhesive base for installation. There is no need to apply any additional products.

After completing the finishing work of the walls and ceiling, a joint remains between the materials. It may be uneven. To cover this area, special skirting boards are used. They are able to close unaesthetic joints and give the finish a finished look. Almost anyone can install the edging. To do this, you need to know some of the nuances of the process.

Experienced builders recommend choosing the right glue for such finishing. When purchasing, you need to take into account the characteristics of finishing materials. There are many options what to glue foam on. Recommendations from professional repairmen will help you perform the procedure correctly.

Features of the plinth

After finishing the walls, the owners of a house or apartment are faced with questions how to attach a ceiling plinth, how to glue foam ceiling tiles. To accept the right decision, you should consider the features of this finishing material.

The foam from which the presented finishing element is made is lightweight. This is an inexpensive material that anyone can glue on their own. Processing and trimming edging elements does not cause difficulties. Foam baseboards are suitable for most finishing materials. When choosing, it is important to take into account the features of the interior. When using expensive types of finishing, it is not advisable to install cheap foam baseboards. He will look ridiculous here.

Polystyrene foam also has disadvantages. This is a fragile material. It is easy to damage during installation. However, by acting carefully, you can achieve an aesthetic, durable finish. You cannot use polystyrene foam to decorate a bathroom. It does not tolerate high humidity.

Technology selection

There are two types of materials, what to glue the ceiling plinth on. Which product to choose, depends on many reasons. In the first case, the foam plinth is mounted on the base using glue. This is the simplest and most popular method. The adhesive is suitable for skirting boards that are mounted on various types finishing.

The glue will allow you to cover up small unevenness in the walls. Even a non-professional can install baguettes independently. Installation using glue will not take much time. However, there is another way. Experienced installers prefer to install ceiling skirting boards using putty. The mixture is applied to the base. While the material has not hardened, the edging is installed on it.

Choice adhesive composition depends on the technology of finishing work. In some cases, even an alabaster mixture will do. However, all actions in this case will need to be carried out very quickly. Alabaster hardens quickly. If the wallpaper is already glued, it is better to use regular glue. Putty may contaminate the finish. If the wallpaper has not yet been hung, you can use this technique.

Polymer glue

Experienced installers give advice, how to glue a foam plastic ceiling plinth. Polymer mixtures are considered the most universal remedy. They are used not only for foam plastic, but also for wooden baguettes. Such compositions are able to withstand heavy loads for a long period of time. They are durable and reliable.

Polymer products from the companies Moment, Titan, and Eco-naset are in great demand. They are distinguished by reasonable cost and good knitting ability.

Types of polymer compositions

Polymer adhesives are divided into two groups. The first includes compositions with instant action (for example, “Moment”). They set in just a few seconds. In this case, you need to adjust the edging to the level very quickly.

The second category of compositions is preferable for novice installers. In this case, there will be enough time to level the position of the baguette. Polymer compositions may contain toxic components. Thus, “Moment” includes ethyl cyanoacrylate. It may cause skin irritation. Therefore, work is carried out only in protective clothing, gloves and goggles. Even a small drop of this composition if it gets into the eye can lead to loss of vision.

Safe polymer compounds

Choosing how and how to glue foam ceiling plinth, it is necessary to consider formulations that are safe for humans. Such products harden more slowly. However, if they come into contact with the skin, they do not cause irritation or allergies. Similar compositions include “Eco-naset”, “Titan”. The product hardens over a certain period of time. The plinth must be held in the required position for several minutes. At the same time, your hands can get very tired. The work will take longer to progress.

Safe, long-hardening compositions are cheaper than Moment. Therefore for self-installation they are chosen more often.

Another good option is polyvinyl acetate glue (such as PVA). It does not contain components harmful to health. The composition does not have an unpleasant chemical odor. This glue also hardens within 2-3 minutes. This composition must be applied in large quantities. Otherwise, even a light foam baguette will simply disappear.

Considering tips on how to glue ceiling the baseboard is correct, It should be noted that repairmen do not have a common opinion. They argue that the installation composition must be selected in accordance with personal preferences. If the room is large and the work needs to be done quickly, it is better to choose instant-curing glue.

For medium, small areas it is better to purchase formulations that are safe for the body. Work will progress more slowly. But you don’t have to worry that the product will get on your skin or that the master won’t have time to level the baguette before the composition hardens.

Almost all polymer adhesives emit harmful substances when they harden. human body substances to a greater or lesser extent. Therefore, during the work process it is necessary to ensure good ventilation in the room. Otherwise the person may feel headache, weakness. In some cases, more serious consequences are possible. Therefore, working indoors when using polymer compounds is necessary with open windows.

Liquid nails

There are other options, what can you glue ceiling plinths to? made of polystyrene foam. One of the popular compositions is liquid nails. This universal material, which is suitable for most finishing materials. When using the presented glue, the ceiling plinth will adhere firmly to the base.

There are two types of liquid nails. The first category includes neopropylene compounds. They have a pungent odor. The composition of such products includes solvents for organic basis. They emit fumes that are hazardous to health. You can only work with such glue in a well-ventilated area. But neopropylene compounds can be used in conditions of low temperatures and high humidity.

Acrylic-based liquid nails are safe for the human body. Contains water. This glue requires work to be carried out normal temperature indoors. Otherwise they are destroyed.

Putty

One of best options Putty is used for installing the ceiling plinth. This material is safe for human health and easy to use. Considering what is the best way to glue the corners of foam plastic ceiling plinths, It is recommended to use this technology. The joints can be covered with plaster or acrylic composition. In this case, you don’t have to worry about the plinth peeling off in the corners.

The putty does not require special conditions to carry out the work. The room temperature can be quite low. This material is suitable for leveling the base. In this case, there will be no gaps between the ceiling and the baseboard.

Use putty to level the ceiling before painting. Therefore, using this finishing option, it would be more expedient to install the edging on a similar composition. In this case, saving money on building materials will be noticeable. The putty can be gypsum or acrylic. Both options will do.

Preparing for work

To make it easier to decide, what glue to use to glue the ceiling plinth, the entire procedure should be considered in detail. Experts recommend starting installation of the edging at a certain stage of the repair. It depends on the type of finishing materials.

Professional builders recommend installing a molding before wallpapering or painting the walls. This approach will allow you to change over time finishing material base without dismantling the edging. The ceiling can be painted along with the baseboard. This will add sophistication to the foam baguette.

Installation must begin from the corners. In this place, the plinth often comes off if the work procedure is not followed. In this area you will need to apply a larger layer of glue. The corners must be cut correctly. When using a foam baguette, you do not need to use a miter box. A regular mounting knife will suffice. The angle on each baguette should be 45º. It is drawn with a pencil and then cut off.

Application of glue

Choosing what to glue foam ceiling plinth to, you should consider all the features of the installation process. After trimming the corners and adjusting them, you need to apply the selected product to the back side of the edging. The glue is applied in dots. Otherwise, it may stain the wall or ceiling.

Depending on the selected composition, the lamella must be leveled using building level for a certain time. If the composition does not harden immediately, the lamella is torn off from the base and excess glue is removed. Then you need to take the second baseboard while the first piece of edging dries. The same procedure is repeated with her.

Then you need to apply the first baguette to the base until the glue has completely hardened. There is no need to press the plinth to the base too much. This can lead to deformation of the brittle material. The procedure is repeated until all the edging is installed.

Application of putty

When considering options, you need to study the technology of using putty. It is recommended to prime the base before applying it.

A small amount of gypsum should be applied to the back of the lamella. Then it is pressed to the base, but not very tightly. Excess material is removed. The edging is wiped with a damp cloth. If this is not done, the remaining putty will remain on the baseboard. It will be difficult to remove them after drying.

Work also starts from the corner. When they are all formed, you can mark the straight sections of the edging. Joints are much more difficult to install. The joints are coated with putty. You can also use white acrylic or silicone sealant.

Having considered what to glue foam ceiling plinth on, you can choose the best option.

When renovating an apartment, the question arises about how to attach the baseboards. The choice of one or another type of fastening depends on many factors, first of all, on the evenness of the wall surface and on what material the plinth itself is made of. Plastic and wooden structures They are convenient because for their installation you can use glue for floor plinths or “liquid nails”. We will understand all the features of this process and the selection of quality materials for work.

Methods of fastening skirting boards

The main purpose of a floor plinth is to hide the gaps between the wall and the floor covering. The room takes on a finished look. There are the following fastening methods:

  • Screws or nails.
  • Anchor or clip connections.
  • Use of adhesives.
  • Using self-adhesive tapes.

Of the methods listed, the fastest and least labor-intensive method is the use of high-quality glue or “liquid nails.” This allows you to securely fix the structure without damaging it. This method is especially justified when working with wood, since careless use of screws or nails can lead to cracking of the wood.

Important! There is a condition for successfully gluing the baseboard. The adjacent wall must be perfectly aligned. If this condition is not met, the fixation will be very weak, and the plinth will soon fall off.

Gluing skirting boards: advantages and disadvantages

Before you start installation work, you need to choose the right glue.

Advantages

The advantages of using an adhesive composition are as follows:

  • Strong connection of panels to wall and floor surfaces.
  • Connection speed.
  • Wide range of use of adhesives. For example, “liquid nails” are almost universal. They perfectly glue natural (stone, wood) and artificial (ceramics, polymers) materials.
  • Possibility to install skirting boards in rooms where the walls are covered with loose materials.
  • Possibility of using adhesives in any premises - both residential and auxiliary.

Flaws

Gluing skirting boards is not without its disadvantages:

  • The need to level the surfaces of the walls to an impeccable condition. This is especially true for wooden structures.
  • Long duration of setting of the composition. This disadvantage occurs when wrong choice glue.

How to glue skirting boards to the floor?

Is it possible to glue the floor plinth with “liquid nails”? Practice shows that yes.

Moreover, in order for the result to be guaranteed to be good, it is better for novice builders to use “liquid nails” - a universal remedy for the most various materials. Its advantages include:

  1. Easy to use.
  2. High quality connections.
  3. Elastic waterproof seam.
  4. Versatility.

Important! When choosing adhesive for floor plinths, be guided by the following list of brands:

  • “Liquid nails” such as these have proven themselves well. brands, like “Titan” and “Anita”;
  • A good option is “Moment”, “Titanium”, “Dragon” or “88” glue.

Installation of a wooden structure

To work you will need:

  • Rubber spatula.
  • Hacksaw.
  • Roulette.
  • A tube of adhesive.
  • Application nozzle (glue gun).

Important! If you have to re-glue the wallpaper soon, then with installation wooden skirting boards we'll have to wait. It is impossible to re-glue the wallpaper without dismantling the baseboard, so you need to install the baseboards after the repair is completely completed.

First, prepare the walls and floor by cleaning and dusting them. Degreasing won't hurt either. The quality of installation of the panels depends on how carefully the preparation is done.

  • Measure the perimeter of the room, taking into account protrusions and recesses. This will allow you to correctly calculate the footage and rationally cut out decorative elements.
  • Cut the decor into pieces according to your measurements.
  • For external and internal corners, cut the material at a 45° angle. Try to cut the corners so that there are no gaps when connecting the elements.
  • After everything preparatory work completed and the panels have been successfully cut, proceed directly to gluing.

Important! The method of applying glue to the baseboard depends on the width of the decor. For a wide structure, a wave-like application is desirable, for a narrow one - pointwise, at approximately intervals of 5 cm. The plinth should be glued from the longest corner element.

  • Apply glue to the baseboard and press it against the wall. Hold it for a while so that the structure is better fixed.
  • Glue the next element in the same way.

Important! If excess glue gets on the surface of the wood, it must be removed immediately with a spatula or soft textile. Remove traces of glue with a damp sponge.

  • Fill the seams with adhesive. The ideal tool for this is a rubber spatula.

Fastening the baseboard with “liquid nails” - plastic

The difference between installing a plastic structure and a wooden one lies, first of all, in taking measurements. Required quantity The material is determined not with a tape measure, but with a plastic strip with an attached corner. This approach is very convenient.

To install a plastic structure, you will need to purchase additional elements:

  • External and internal corners.
  • Plugs.
  • Connections.

Important! Glue is applied to the plastic pointwise. On average, the distance between the glue points is about 3 cm. If the walls are perfectly smooth, then the distance between the glue points can be increased to 10 cm.

The procedure for gluing is as follows:

  1. Clean the walls and floor from dirt.
  2. Apply glue to the corner baseboard. If the width is large, you can apply the adhesive composition in a “wave”.
  3. Fasten individual elements with additional fasteners. To make them stick better, it is advisable to put them on glue. If the panel consists of 2 parts connected by latches, only the main part needs to be glued.
  4. Mount the remaining panels in the same way.
  5. Wipe off glue stains with a damp sponge, otherwise the baseboard will look untidy.

Features of self-adhesive structures

The self-adhesive skirting board looks very beautiful, neat and can be installed in literally a matter of minutes. This material appeared on the market 5 years ago. This is a great option for rooms with laminated or linoleum flooring. There are different color options, so choose suitable option possible without difficulty. There is even imitation of ceramics and ornamental stone.

Important! When gluing in difficult places, the material can not only be bent, but also standard fasteners for baseboards made of polymer materials can be used.

Step-by-step instructions for installation are as follows:

  1. Soak a piece of cloth in water and twist it so that it is not wet, but slightly damp.
  2. Clean the surfaces to be glued, then degrease them with medical alcohol.
  3. Make the markings. Correct marking is very important. If it is done poorly, it is impossible to tear off the baseboard without damaging the wall, and sometimes floor, covering.
  4. Remove protective layer and stick the tape. Installation must also start from the corner. As you work, press the tape against the floor and wall (for better grip).
  5. After the material is pasted along the entire perimeter of the room, cut off the decor.

Important! Caring for such panels is extremely simple. It is enough to clean it from dirt with a sponge soaked in a mild solution. detergent. The use of such decor makes it possible to save on consumables, since there is no need to purchase any additional glue for the baseboard.

A simple decor in the form of an overlay strip is used to cover the joint between the wall and the floor. Most often, the plinth is carefully selected according to the height and texture of the surface so that a decorative transition can be created between the finishing of the walls and the floor. Depending on the size and material it is necessary to select correct fastening plastic plinth to the floor, in such a way as not to damage the plastic and ensure a strong and at the same time tight, without gaps, fit of both edges of the plank to the floor surface and the plane of the wall.

What are the benefits of using skirting boards?

In theory, it would be possible to do without a plinth if the ends of the flooring were perfectly matched to the wall of the room. But in most cases, even when using concrete floors, not to mention wooden coverings, parquet and laminate, there must be a gap between the wall and the end to compensate for the expansion of the material. Therefore, before attaching a plastic plinth to the floor, it will be necessary to take into account the size and location of the plinth strip relative to the cracks.

Using decor makes it possible to solve several problems at once:

  • Cover defects that are most clearly visible at the horizontal joints of the wall and the floor covering;
  • Create an additional decorative element bordering the floor around the perimeter of the room;
  • Hide wiring, cables and even water pipes.

Depending on the height of the plastic plinth and the method of fastening, it depends on whether it will be possible to complete the assigned tasks. Most craftsmen solve the problem of how to attach skirting boards to the floor based on their design, finish and wall material.

Types of plastic skirting boards

Most often, a universal Z-shaped type of polyvinyl chloride skirting board is used for floor edging. Several types of decor are used to decorate home flooring:

  • Rigid plastic strip with hard edges. This option is used for finishing flat and even walls with hard flooring;
  • Hollow plinth with flexible edges and internal channel for laying wires. The groove for laying the wiring is closed with latches with an additional strip;
  • A flexible tape, shaped to imitate a wooden or hard baseboard, is ideal for edging the joint between the floor covering and plastered walls.

For your information! The good flexibility of the tape allows you to store the decorative element in the form of a wound roll.

The most popular hollow floor plinth fits well into the interior of any room and space; the plastic has sufficient strength and flexibility to withstand point loads from installed fasteners. This version of the plinth rests on the wall and floor with soft elastic edges, as a result, even significant unevenness in the walls and floor can be compensated and masked.

Hard plastic material Cheaper and tougher, it can be called a simple replacement for outdated wood floor decor. It is used, as well as strip floor plinths, for edging large rooms with hard flooring.

In addition to universal floor decor, specialized types of skirting boards are often used, for example, for fixing and tensioning carpet. The strips secure the fabric to the bottom edge of the wall and at the same time stretch the material to hold the synthetic fabric on a wooden or plastic backing.

Options for fixing floor skirting boards

According to experienced craftsmen, it doesn’t matter how to fasten the floor plinth, the main thing is to ensure complete contact of the plastic strip to the wall and strong fixation decorative element in the selected area. Traditionally, two methods are used to attach floor decor:

  • Installation of a plastic strip using durable polyurethane or acrylic glue;
  • Fixation on mechanical fastenings, most often industrially produced.

The easiest and fastest way to fix the floor decorative strip is with any synthetic glue. In the production of decor inside The floor plank has a supporting ribbed surface, onto which a layer of glue is applied.

Gluing the floor plinth

The adhesive method is very easy to use, but experts recommend using glue to fasten floor plinths only for smooth walls and floors. Hard plastic decor adheres well to plasterboard sheets and self-leveling floors. For laminate, PVC tiles, parquet, you will need to look for special high-strength brands of glue, since it “plays” on a polypropylene foam backing flooring tears off acrylic adhesives and PVA.

Doesn't like acrylic glue and linoleum. For attaching floor planks to linoleum or plastic tiles Typically, polyurethane, polystyrene or even epoxy compositions are used, which can be used to glue plastic skirting boards to any surface.

If you still decide to fix the plastic plinth using acrylic glue on a wooden plank floor or parquet, the first step is to remove the paint or varnish on a thin strip of the wood surface to ensure good adhesion.

The process of gluing floor plinths comes down to the following operations:

  • The installation of plastic strips is marked, corners and connecting adapters are selected and adjusted;
  • The glue is applied to the inner parts of the plinth in short strips with a slight excess of adhesive mass;
  • The floor decor is placed in the gluing area and pressed with a heavy object.

Advice! To increase the strength of the adhesive joint, place heavy objects along the glued baseboard and wedge the plastic strip using wooden blocks and slats.

After 5-6 hours, the fasteners can be removed, but the final setting of the adhesive base will only be completed the next day.

Floor plastic plinth can be glued very quickly using double sided tape or polyurethane foam. In the latter case, the foam is applied in small drops, and after installing the planks in place, they are held in a pressed position for at least 3 hours until the foam curing process is completed in full.

Except plastic PVC skirting boards, produce decorative floor elements made of polyurethane foam. Reverse side Such decor is usually covered with a self-adhesive film, but even if it is missing, gluing the material with liquid nails will not be difficult.

If using glue causes difficulties, small tips on how to properly attach skirting boards to the floor are shown in the video:

Fastening floor skirting boards with self-tapping screws

Before attaching a plastic plinth to the floor, experts recommend checking and clarifying the material from which the walls are made. In the vast majority of cases floor decor hung on the lower edge of the walls using clips, metal or plastic clamps. An overview of the fittings and tips on how to attach skirting boards to the floor are shown in the video:

In the case of direct installation of the plank, you have to punch a hole in the wall to install plugs for self-tapping screws and dowels. It is necessary to punch the hole so that a hole at least 30 mm deep is obtained in the brick or concrete. If you try to fix a cork or dowel in the body of the plaster, the clips or fastening of the floor plinth under load will still pull it out of the wall.

The exception is special plaster dowels, which can hold plastic decor even on cement-sand plaster.

The plastic plinth is laid along the wall, the outer strip covering the cable channel is removed, and the places for drilling holes are marked. Typically, self-tapping screws or dowels are placed in increments of at least 50 cm. The installation points of the dowels are chosen so as to press the top edge of the plank against the wall without gaps. The marking lines are transferred to the plastic and to the wall, the floor decor is removed and the condition of the wall is checked in the areas of future drilling. If, when tapping the wall, a void is discovered, the point is moved to the left or right.

In order to connect the laid section with other parts of the decor, complex corner and linear joints are used, so the length of the strip is chosen to be increased by the size of the overhang for fastening corner joint. Next, a connecting element is placed on the decorative strip for internal corner, after which it is returned to the installation site, and drilling is performed, starting from the joint.

Despite its external plasticity and flexibility, if drilled incorrectly, the floor plank can easily crack, especially in the bottom part of the channel, where the thickness of the plastic wall is very small. Therefore, a hole for installing a plug or dowel is drilled in two passes, first with a thin 3-4 mm drill, then to the required dowel size.

Installation of floor plinths with clips and clamps

The technology for installing hollow floor plinths is not much different from the previous version, the only difference being that special ones are used for installation plastic fastenings- fasteners, photo.

It is enough to fix the clamps on the floor, and you can install the skirting boards. But it's not that simple. This scheme works well for rooms lined with plasterboard, clapboard or plastic. The technology with clamps works ideally only if the angle between the wall plane and the floor surface is 90° or less.

In reality, the angle can be 95-100 o, which causes a gap to form between the top edge and the wall. Therefore, before installation, the fasteners are placed on the decor and placed at the installation site. Spacers must be placed under each clamp to ensure a good fit of the top edge of the plastic strip to the wall surface.

After marking the position and places for fastening, each fastener is screwed to the wall using the same self-tapping screws, and the floor plinth is simply snapped onto the fastening locks. How to install PVC floor decor is described in more detail in the video:

Some decor models use metal clips for installation. They are easier to work with; instead of painstakingly adjusting the mounting angle, you can simply bend the lock petals to the required amount.

Conclusion

Wide plastic skirting boards are almost always made either of polyurethane foam, which is easily glued to any wall, or in the form of a hollow box. Attaches to walls using dowels bottom base box, and the outer decorative lid simply snaps on like a box. According to many craftsmen, installing wide decor is easier and faster, they are more convenient to use and allow you to hide a significant number of wires and communications, which, apparently, has contributed to the growth in popularity of such decor.
