How to insulate the loggias from the inside. How to properly insulate a balcony inside: the choice of insulation

We will send the material to you by e-mail

The process of warming the room itself is very important, since with the help of such a repair, drafts, cold are removed, and the space of the connected room also expands. But it is not enough just to install double-glazed windows and cover up cracks and holes with polyurethane foam. It is necessary to insulate it. To save money in your wallet, it is better to insulate the loggia with your own hands, the step-by-step photo instructions presented in the article will help you do the job.

Amazing balcony with ecological materials

Initially, you need to select a building material. It is important to remember that not only thermal performance can depend on the selected components, but also. If the building material is too thick, it will steal the usable area.

Note! Any material to retain heat must be environmentally friendly, as well as meet the thermal and steam characteristics.

The room can be insulated with the following materials:

  • Penofol ... An excellent substitute for mineral wool. It has a multi-layer coating that also has a reflective effect.
  • Polyurethane foam ... Suitable for balconies as well as possible. Very poorly flammable, made from environmentally friendly materials. Installation is done by pouring.

  • Expanded polystyrene ... A fairly economical choice of material and also very effective for a balcony.

  • Isover ... Available in sheet form. Made of mineral wool, with fiberglass particles.

As a rule, expanded polystyrene is mounted on the walls and ceiling. It is good to use it, because its properties have a high coefficient of thermal conductivity, as well as a small thickness. It can be cut perfectly with a kitchen knife. Styrofoam can be considered an alternative option. For cold winter, sheets 10 cm thick are suitable, for mild weather it is better to use 5 cm.

Preparatory work and do-it-yourself loggia insulation: step-by-step photo instructions

Before the main process, preparatory work should be done. Only then will it be possible to do the insulation of the loggia with your own hands, and a step-by-step photo instruction will help with this. This will require:

  • Select those places that will be accurately processed. In any case, you should definitely process the parapet. Walls can be treated as needed. If there are no neighbors on the sides, then they also need to be covered with building materials. Often all walls are insulated.
  • Before repairing, you need to take everything out and clean the surfaces.
  • It is recommended to change windows and install double-glazed windows, if there are none.
  • Next, you need to lay the wiring for sockets, lamps and switches.
  • The next step is to select a material.
  • After selecting the material, you can proceed to work with the floor, walls, then the ceiling.
  • Upon completion, finishing work should be carried out.

Fastening for thermal insulation can be both an adhesive composition and a dowel. If an adhesive is used, then in the process of work it will be necessary to glue the gluing area and the material itself.

Helpful advice! The formed seams, which are obtained directly in the process of insulation, should be filled with polyurethane foam.

Penoplex and how to insulate a loggia with it

Many people dream of converting a balcony into a full-fledged room. But in order for the use of such a room to be comfortable, it will need to be insulated. As a rule, parapets in apartments have thin walls. In this regard, at the initial stage, it will be necessary to demolish and lay it out on a new one. Thus, the wall will be thicker, and therefore warmer. It is recommended to use a brick that is placed on the adhesive with an edge. For such masonry, silicate brick is ideal.

After the fresh masonry has shrunk, you can proceed with the installation of windows. For this, it is recommended to use the services of professionals. Next, you can move on to insulation. will be installed on ceilings, walls and floors. Following the instructions, you can get to work:

  • The prepared pieces should be placed in the frame. It is also possible not to create a frame, but to mount the slabs directly on the walls using special mounting fungi.

Helpful advice! Plates should be adjusted so that they fit tightly one to one. This will get rid of the cracks, which means that it will be much warmer on the loggia. It is recommended to walk at the joints with polyurethane foam or sealant.
  • Reflective insulation should be placed on walls, ceilings and floors. Penofol is ideal. It is recommended to glue the joints with foil tape.

  • After that, the balcony will be ready for final finishing. To do this, you can use a lining made of wood or plastic, or install other panels.

Do it yourself. How to insulate the floor on the loggia?

The floor should be treated first, and then all other surfaces. The work process is as follows:

  • It is necessary to properly clean the floor from debris and dust.
  • Next, you need to seal up all holes or crevices with foam.
  • Now you should use a thin one and put it on the entire floor. Lay it in such a way that there are no joints or there is a minimum number of them.
  • When the first layer is laid, you need to walk around its perimeter with construction foam, including joints and seams. Then the second layer is laid by analogy.

  • Now you can mount the frame from a wooden bar. The distance between the bars should be about 50 cm.
  • The formed distance should be filled with polystyrene. The thickness of the insulation will depend on the thickness of the timber. Ideally when they are flush.
  • Next, you need to cut off the penofol to the size of the balcony and lay it with the foil side up, but so that it looks about 20 cm at each wall.
  • Now you can fix the floorboards to the beams and mount the decorative covering.

Alternatively, the floor can be installed underfloor heating or loggias can be made with penoplex.

Insulation of the ceiling and walls of the loggia

For almost all types of premises, walls and ceilings are insulated in the same way. Thus, the walls are insulated like this:

For, Styrofoam is best suited. The process is carried out by analogy with the walls and floor.

Insulation of the loggia from the inside: what is better to do?

To find the right material, there are some important factors to consider:

  • Purpose of the premises.
    • If the balcony will be used as a storage room, then you can use any building material, mounting it in 1 layer.
    • When the balcony turns into one room, it is necessary to use different building materials, which are stacked in 2 layers, over the entire area.
    • If it is combined with the room, then you need to use a two-layer insulation. The walls can be made in one layer, and special attention should be paid to the parapet.
  • Using heaters for interior decoration, the usable area will be less, so this factor should be taken into account.

The choice directly depends on the factors described and the tastes of the owner of the room.

Finishing work

Finishing work is needed. This is due not only to the aesthetic appearance, but also affects the protective factors. If we are talking about outdoor decoration, then the parapet can be covered with corrugated board or siding.

Internal work can be anything you like. It all depends on preferences and imagination. But it is worth noting that finishing the loggia inside with your own hands will bring more pleasure and joy. Often the work is done with PVC panels. You can also wallpaper or just paint the walls. The loggia looks very good in wood trim. It will be not only beautiful, but also environmentally friendly.

Article

Having carried out the insulation of the balcony, you can achieve 2 goals at once: to expand the living space and improve the degree of thermal insulation of the apartment. It is most correct to make external insulation, but here you cannot do without the services of industrial climbers and the corresponding costs. Insulating a balcony from the inside will be much cheaper, especially if you do it yourself.

How to insulate the balcony inside

An equally comfortable temperature inside the room and the adjacent balcony is considered a positive result of the work performed. It makes no sense to invest effort and money in insulation that does not protect against the penetration of cold onto the balcony and forcing you to tightly close the doors leading to the loggia in winter.

As a rule, for internal insulation of balconies it is used:

  • foamed polystyrene with a density of 25-35 kg / m 3, otherwise - foam;
  • based on basalt fiber 80-110 kg / m 3 density;
  • extruded polystyrene foam (one of its varieties -).

Note! For additional thermal insulation, thin foil insulation made of polyethylene foam - Izolon or Penofol is often laid on the main layer.

In addition to the listed insulators, there is another insulating material - ecowool made from cellulose waste. Simply put - waste paper. The rules for handling it and the installation technology are the same as with basalt wool. Ecowool is not very popular due to its high cost.

Brief characteristics of heaters

Polyfoam is the cheapest material for insulation, produced in the form of plates of various thicknesses.

Like all foamed polymers, it repels moisture well and has sufficient strength (at a specified density). It is characterized by high resistance to heat transfer and flammability, which is why it requires protection from accidental sparks.

The thickness of the foam for insulation of the balcony in the northern regions should be at least 100 mm, in the southern regions 50 mm may be enough.

Unlike foam, mineral wool does not burn absolutely, but it is capable of absorbing moisture, after which its thermal conductivity rises sharply. The problem is solved with the help of protective layers made of special films, which will be discussed below.

The heat transfer resistance of the mineral wool is not too high, therefore it is pointless to use material less than 80 mm thick. Insulation is offered in rolls and plates, and at a price it will cost more than polystyrene.

Advice! Do not insulate the balcony with fiberglass wool (glass wool) intended for outdoor or roofing work. The use of such materials inside residential premises is unacceptable.

The best option for internal insulation of the balcony is extruded polystyrene foam, sold in slabs.

Expanded polystyrene is durable, lightweight and has the best thermal insulation properties.

Where you need to lay mineral wool 100 mm in thickness, 50 mm of foam is enough.

In addition, the polymer is absolutely impervious to moisture and is so durable that the plate can be screwed on with self-tapping screws if necessary. There is only one drawback - the high price of the material, which is compensated by the long service life of the material - up to 50 years.

Balcony insulation technology from the inside

It is necessary to carefully prepare for thermal insulation on the balcony. This includes not only the acquisition of materials and the preparation of tools, but also the implementation of a number of preliminary works:

  1. Reliable parapet device. There are 2 types of structures in practice: a welded metal frame with attachment to the wall or a masonry made of foam blocks. How to strengthen the parapet -.
  2. ... Sometimes the balcony is made panoramic by installing metal-plastic blocks to the full height, without a parapet. Then it will be necessary to insulate only the floors and the ceiling.
  3. Elimination of all cracks and leaks leading to the street, removal of excess polyurethane foam.
  4. pad electrical wiring for lighting, as well as drainage and highways with freon k (if any).

Before insulating the balcony inside, you need to level all surfaces by removing obvious influxes or filling up cavities and cracks with a solution.

Interior wall decoration

Do-it-yourself balcony wall insulation technology depends on the design of the parapet and the thermal insulation material used. A metal frame, finished with plastic on the outside, or, it is better to sheathe it with 2 layers of thermal insulation so that the second row of insulation overlaps all metal racks, which are cold bridges. Moreover, from the outside, between the cladding and the insulation, a windproof film should be laid.

When insulating a balcony with mineral wool, it is necessary to use not an ordinary film, but a diffusion membrane as wind protection. It will let out moisture that occurs in the thickness of the cotton wool, but will not let it get wet from precipitation or fog outside. For polystyrene and polystyrene foam, the use of a membrane is not necessary, an ordinary film is also suitable.

To fasten the mineral wool, you will need to assemble an additional wooden frame made of beams with your own hands, whose width is equal to the thickness of the insulation. The step between the bars is selected according to the width of the material, the last one is inserted between them by a swath. At the last stage, the thermal insulation layer is covered with a vapor barrier film, after which the frame is sewn up with clapboard or drywall.

Ceiling sheathing

And the balcony ceiling can be insulated in 3 ways:

  1. If you plan to do at the end or wallpapering, then the method of gluing the slab insulation with a building mixture is suitable. Warming, accompanied by "wet" processes, is carried out only in the warm season at positive temperatures.
  2. For or a similar finish, you will have to attach wooden blocks to the walls and ceiling, and lay the roll or slab material between them.
  3. When insulating with expanded polystyrene, the plates can be directly attached to the walls and ceiling with dowels. After that, the surfaces are leveled with putty and painted, or a crate is placed by fixing the bars to the foam blocks or concrete through the insulation. Lining, plastic, drywall and other finishes to choose from are easily attached to the crate.

Note! For fastening the battens to the concrete ceiling through expanded polystyrene, it is necessary to use special screws for concrete - frame pins.

When insulating a balcony with mineral wool, a wooden frame is indispensable. Cotton wool can be glued, but it is quite difficult. The best option is to insert it between the beams attached to the wall and ceiling, protect it with a vapor barrier and revet it with a suitable material.

The method of gluing is convenient when working with polystyrene, but after 2 days it is necessary to additionally fix it with dowel-umbrellas and apply a plaster layer over the fiberglass mesh.

Floor insulation

The technology of thermal insulation of balcony floors differs from walls and ceilings, since the “cake” of insulation must bear certain dynamic loads and have a flat surface. Alignment is carried out by laying wooden logs, between which insulation is laid, and a finishing coating is laid on top. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Cut the wooden beam into crossbars along the width of the balcony and fix them to the floor with anchors or self-tapping screws and dowels using steel corners.
  2. Fasten 3 longitudinal lugs to the crossbars with self-tapping screws. In the process, they must be aligned horizontally, starting from the highest point. Using the building level, the beams at the intersections with the crossbars should be raised and plastic or wooden wedges should be placed.
  3. Place the insulation tightly between the crossbars and the lag. In the case of mineral wool, laying a vapor barrier on top of it is mandatory.
  4. Install the floor covering with fixing to the joists.

It is characteristic that the length of the crossbars and the lag does not need to be adjusted to the dimensions of the balcony. It would be more correct to make them shorter by 10-20 mm, so that the ends do not rest against the walls. Wood tends to "breathe" and deform a little; with a tight fit, the floor surface can later bend into an arc.

Moreover, walking on such floors will be accompanied by an annoying creak. The resulting gaps near the walls will hide under the flooring and will not be visible.

When using slab insulation, it is worth choosing the right step of the crossbars so that you do not have to cut the slabs again. The standard width is 600 mm, and you need to be guided by it. After laying the polystyrene or expanded polystyrene, all joints and cracks must be filled with polyurethane foam.

Helpful instructional video:

Mineral wool is protected with a vapor barrier as tightly as possible so that moisture from inside the room cannot seep into it. Here, too, you can use polyethylene foam like Penofol, but pay special attention to gluing the joints.

If you seriously and scrupulously approach the procedure for the internal insulation of the balcony, then it is not at all necessary to hire craftsmen and pay them money, which is never superfluous. You will spend twice as much time to complete the work, but you will do everything efficiently and in accordance with your personal wishes. In addition, you will save money on your family budget.

Loggia, from a constructive point of view, is perfect to become a full-fledged room or an extension of an apartment. To make this possible, it is necessary to carry out a number of construction and installation work on insulation, glazing, decoration. The result will be a cozy room for relaxation, a spacious living room, and an additional place to work.

The result of insulation may differ from the desired one, if several factors are not taken into account when choosing materials and technology of insulation works.

The first factor is the further purpose of the premises:

  • if it is supposed to have a utility room, then any insulation is used in one layer; mainly, only the part directly in contact with the street is insulated - the parapet;
  • the desire to have a separate full-fledged room will require the use of different types of thermal insulation materials, which are stacked in two layers over the entire surface of the loggia;
  • the option of combining a loggia and a room will also require two-layer insulation, but in this case, the main attention is paid to the parapet, and the walls are covered in one layer.

The second factor is the size of the loggia itself, since if it is small, then such insulation is selected, which, with a small thickness, has a sufficiently high thermal protection index. In this case, the usable area will be reduced slightly.

The third factor is taking into account the fact that any material from which the walls of the interior are made passes the moisture accumulated inside. This water vapor, colliding with the colder air of the street, settles on the outside of the wall. If this wall is insulated, it means that the insulation is covered with moisture, which leads to its rotting and a decrease in its thermal insulation properties. It is necessary that the water vapor does not reach the insulation.

Insulation materials

On the construction market there is a number of properties that you need to get acquainted with before properly insulating the loggia inside. What is attached to the consumer?

Mineral wool and all materials based on its production or basalt fiber are a very popular material with good indicators of thermal insulation, sound insulation and fire resistance. During service it retains its shape and structure, does not succumb to aggressive media and microorganisms, but is highly hygroscopic. Such high permeability requires careful waterproofing work. The disadvantages include the thickness of the material and the need to equip the lathing and hydro-barrier, which takes up the usable area.

Polyfoam is produced from polystyrene. It is chosen for its durability, low thermal conductivity, resistance to the influence of microorganisms, and low hydrophobicity. Self-extinguishing foam is suitable for insulating the walls of the loggia inside, since the usual one is very flammable.

Penoplex, Tepleks, Primaplex, Styroform, Ursaform, URSA, XPS - materials based on extruded polystyrene foam. They have the lowest thermal conductivity, which means the highest thermal insulation properties. These materials are durable, easy to install, provide good waterproofing and sound insulation.

Materials made of extruded polyethylene and covered with foil on one or both sides are suitable as insulation for the loggia: Penofol, Izokom, Tepofol, Izolon. Among all the listed heat insulators, its thermal conductivity is the highest. Therefore, it is used as an independent material for "cold" insulation or as a reflective material for interior walls. But its small thickness and high vapor permeability allows it to be used as a second layer of insulation.

Separately, it should be said about the material that is not produced in plates or rolls. which is sprayed like foam and creates a single heat-insulating surface. In all technical indicators, it surpasses other materials. The main disadvantage is high flammability with the release of toxic substances. Self-assembly is almost impossible, since a special installation for spraying is required.

Stages of thermal insulation work

Before insulating the loggia inside, a number of preparatory work is carried out:

  • glazing and sealing of all gaps between the frames and the wall, parapet;
  • surface preparation;
  • waterproofing.

Double-glazed windows with frames made of any material are chosen as glazing. They must be functional, have a ventilation mode and be light enough so as not to create additional load on the floor slab.

Walls, ceiling, floor are pre-cleaned of debris and other contamination, and the integrity of the surface is checked. If cracks and inter-tile gaps are found, they are filled with a sealant. Align if necessary.

An important approach to correctly and better insulating the loggia is to create a layer of waterproofing. For this, one or more materials are used, since it is necessary to waterproof the parapet and all external walls, floor, ceiling, frames.

Waterproofing materials include:

  • roofing material;
  • various types of coating, painting substances;
  • penetrating waterproofing;
  • folgoizolone.

Rolled waterproofing is glued with an overlap to the base, and the seams are sealed with a sealant, sealed with special tape or soldered, as is the case with roofing felt. When coated with foil-insulating material, an additional layer of thermal insulation is obtained. The use of coating, paint, penetrating insulation is justified in hard-to-reach areas and in the case when the dimensions of the room are very small.

After determining which insulation is best for the loggia and carrying out preliminary work, proceed directly to the insulation itself. There are two ways:

  • a continuous layer of heat-insulating material is created and any options for steam penetration to the insulation are minimized;
  • lining of insulation and covering it with a vapor barrier.

Warming methods

First.

In this case, materials with low vapor permeability are used: polystyrene, expanded polystyrene. Their thickness must be such as to create the required resistance to the passage of steam and, at the same time, be sufficient for the required thermal insulation. In the case of using tile insulation, the sequence of work is as follows:

  • tile glue is divorced;
  • glue is applied to the corners of the slab and in the center;
  • the plate is applied to the surface and holes up to 6 cm deep are drilled through it with a puncher for dowels;
  • through the drilled holes with the help of mushroom dowels, the final fastening is carried out, at least 5 dowels are used;
  • the next slab is also laid after checking the surface with the rule;
  • the seams between the slabs are sealed with assembly glue or glued with tape;
  • it is possible to lay a second layer of insulation, for example, penofol;
  • after laying all the sheets, fiberglass mesh is reinforced;
  • putty for leveling mesh texture.

Reinforcement is carried out in four stages:

  1. the plates are treated with coarse grain sandpaper;
  2. cover the slabs with glue up to 3 mm thick;
  3. a fiberglass mesh with cells of 5x5 mm is pressed into the glue;
  4. apply a second layer of glue over the mesh.

You can also use rolled thermal insulation materials, the installation technology will not change. In this case, pieces of insulation of the required size are cut off.
After such insulation, surfaces are obtained that are completely ready for painting, or any other decorative material.

Second.

For this method, there are no restrictions on the choice of insulation, since the technology provides for the creation of a vapor barrier between it and the decorative finish. Such insulation is carried out with the help of arranging a wooden crate or without it, but then the crate for PVC plates is made on top of the vapor barrier.

The lathing is made from wooden beams or metal fasteners and a profile. In the case of metal parts, heaters must be laid under them.

The height and width of the crate depends on the type of insulation:

  • for mineral wool, the beams are selected with a smaller width than its mats, so that the laying is carried out with a roll;
  • it is advisable to lay several layers of cotton wool so as to cover the beams, then they will not become conductors of cold;
  • for polystyrene, all parameters of sheets and beams must match.

After laying the insulation in the crate, a vapor barrier material is attached to it with an overlap. It can be ordinary polyethylene, a membrane. All joints of the vapor barrier are glued with tape. If the lining with insulation was carried out without lathing, then profiles for mounting the finish are attached on top of the vapor barrier.

More recently, balconies were used for storing unnecessary things, conservation, etc.

Now, many are trying to make a living room or study out of the balcony.

But to implement this idea, it is necessary to insulate the balcony well. Let's take a closer look at this process.

What should you pay attention to?

Thermal insulation of the balcony will not only increase the usable space in the apartment, but also reduce its heat loss, because it is through the balcony that a large amount of it leaves. In order for the insulation to be of high quality, you need to do it correctly and know the sequence of work.

So you need to draw up a detailed work plan, which will look like this:

  • - preparation and selection of thermal insulation;
  • - installation of glazing;
  • - installation of thermal insulation;
  • - installation of finishing;
  • - installation of a heating system (if necessary).

Balcony insulation can be installed both inside and outside. But since you will be doing the work without the help of professionals, it is better to use internal insulation.

Step one. The best insulation for the balcony from the inside

Now on sale you can find a lot of different types of thermal insulation. The most suitable for a balcony are:

  1. - Styrofoam,
  2. - EPS,
  3. - mineral wool,
  4. - expanded clay.

Polyfoam and EPSP are mounted in almost the same way, most precisely with one difference - the EPSP plates are connected to each other by grooves.

It is better to refuse the use of mineral wool, since its installation is laborious, and condensation periodically forms on the balcony, which will eventually ruin the material. Expanded clay is used only for the floor.

Among other things, it is necessary to take into account the load on the balcony, therefore it is better to choose polystyrene with a layer of 4-5 cm, the more it is cheaper than expanded polystyrene and mineral wool.

Step two. Installation of glazing

If glazing has already been installed on your balcony, then this step is skipped.

The entire glazing installation process depends on the railings already available on the balcony.

If an iron grating is installed as a railing, then it needs to be built up with the help of foam blocks or ceramic bricks.

It is necessary that the walls are more than 2 cm thick. If the parapet is made of reinforced concrete, then glazing can be started.

Nowadays many people opt for environmentally friendly wooden frames. But before installing, do not forget to treat the frames with an antiseptic and paint (staining must be repeated periodically).

Despite the advantages of wooden frames, many people choose PVC windows.

The best option would be a profile with increased rigidity and high strength and thermal insulation.

In addition, there are several more elements that must be present in PVC windows:

  • - a profile of 5 cameras;
  • - double-glazed windows from 2 chambers (for the middle lane) or from 3 chambers (for cold regions);
  • - reinforced reinforcement.

Glazing is ordered according to pre-measured dimensions. It is better to entrust its installation to professionals. Then you can start the insulation.

Step three. Installation of floor insulation

Consider the installation of insulation on the balcony floor using the example of polystyrene (or expanded polystyrene).

1) First, prepare the working surfaces - fill all cracks in concrete and joints between the slabs and the wall with polyurethane foam.

2) Mark the floor for laying the battens. The step between the battens of the sheathing should be about 1 cm larger than the width of the foam sheets.

3) Lay out the slats with a section equal to the thickness of the insulation along the markings. Lay the first and last beams at a distance of 5-10 cm from the walls. Connect the bars with self-tapping screws.

4) Between the battens of the lathing, install sheets of foam, on which in advance apply liquid nails or special glue. Fill all joints with polyurethane foam.

5) Place a vapor barrier on top of the foam to improve thermal insulation and prevent condensation. When using PET film, do not lay it on the “cold” side of the insulator. When using a foil vapor barrier, lay it on top of the foam with foil.

7) And finally, you can install a decorative covering (for example, linoleum or carpet).

It is possible to insulate the floor with foam plastic in another way: clean the work surface, lay foam plastic on it, which is sprinkled with a thin screed from a previously prepared dry mixture solution.

After the screed has dried, install a decorative coating - ceramic tiles.

There is another option for floor insulation - with the help of ceramite. This is a relatively cheap material, and the work with it is quite simple.

Let's take a closer look at this process:

1) First, lay the waterproofing on the floor, grasping 10 cm of walls.

2) Install beacons every 25 cm around the perimeter of the floor, but do not lean them strongly against the walls.

3) Spread the ceramite on the floor in a layer of 15 cm, evenly distributing it using a rule.

4) Spill the insulation with an aqueous cement solution.

6) Allow the screed to dry completely, and then you can install the decorative cover.

Step four. Installation of insulation on walls

The walls are insulated in the same way as the floor. Proceed as follows:

1) Make markings for the lathing beams (as well as on the floor)

2) Fasten the beams along the markings.

3) Apply the polyurethane foam to the walls using an undulating motion. Also make holes for the dowels.

4) Fix the styrofoam with dowels-mushrooms.

5) Fill all cracks with polyurethane foam, and then cover with construction tape.

7) Glue all joints with foil tape.

8) Install another row of battens on top of the waterproofing and install the trim.

Step five. Ceiling insulation

The ceiling is also insulated like walls and floors, but there are some minor differences.

1) First of all, make the markings, along which you will then install the hangers under the guides.

3) In the right places, make cutouts in the foam for the suspensions.

4) Now attach the insulation with polyurethane foam. If the insulation is heavy, then fix it with dowels.

Fill all cracks with polyurethane foam. All other points are performed in the same way as in the previous stages.

Finishing

Most often, a lining or profile is used for finishing, but drywall is also suitable, which can be pasted over with wallpaper, or PVC panels. It is better to entrust the external finishing of the balcony to specialists, especially if the apartment is located above the first floor.

It is impossible to carry out heating on the balcony, so if you plan to use it constantly, then equip heating in the form of infrared floors, for example. Or you can install an electrical outlet on the balcony to connect the heater - this is the most budgetary option. Moreover, the balcony has a small area, so it will heat up quickly enough.

Also, keep in mind that glazing is heavy, so all other trims should be lightweight. So it is better to choose EPS or polystyrene as insulation.

In this article, we have indicated the main points that need to be considered when insulating and finishing a balcony.

So you can start working, knowing how to do it correctly, you will cope with this process without any problems and, as a result, you will get a full-fledged living balcony with a lot of advantages.

Video: How to insulate a balcony from the inside with your own hands video

If the apartment or house has a balcony, then it must certainly be used, since this is an additional, and sometimes just a necessary area. If you approach the issue with imagination and think over all the nuances, then you can get a small, but very cozy room. In order for the balcony to act as a room, it must be insulated. How to insulate the balcony inside is decided by each owner independently, taking into account their financial capabilities and pressing needs. But a few words should be said about the nuances of the process and about the materials used to insulate the balcony. The choice of these materials must be very careful and pay attention to all the characteristics.

It is necessary to start mastering any balcony with an objective assessment of its condition. If the apartment is located in a new house, recently leased to tenants, then you need to pay attention to the material from which the construction of the balcony is made. Also, in new houses, you need to pay attention to what the neighbors' balcony is decorated with. Often in such houses, neighbors try to adhere to a single style.

We make masonry from foam blocks

But if the balcony is located in a far from new apartment and it has always been used as an open space, then the work will have to start with strengthening the balcony... Strengthening is understood as the reconstruction of the concrete platform of the balcony, and the strengthening of the metal handrail. Also, such an event as strengthening the lower part of the upper balcony can be included in this process, this must also be taken into account. After solving all these issues and choosing the material for the external facing of the loggia (balcony), you can proceed to the interior decoration. To simplify this stage, you can lay out a wall of bricks or foam blocks up to half of the balcony, directly to the double-glazed windows. This will save on insulation.

Advice: If all stages of insulation are carried out at the same time, then it is better to immediately install double glazing in the windows, since one glass gives 70% more heat loss in cold weather.

Preparation for insulation

To start insulating the balcony inside with any materials, you need to prepare. Having chosen a material for insulation, it is necessary to create a special wooden crate for it, on which it will then be attached. The exception is roll materials that can be mounted under the crate. This frame is made of beams with a cross section of about 4-5 cm. Transverse and perpendicular beams must be fastened so that squares of 50 by 50 cm are obtained. The lathing can also be made from a metal profile, but this material is somewhat more expensive than wooden bars. The main advantages of the metal frame are the ease of construction and ease of use.

Note: When calculating the necessary insulation for the balcony inside, you need to take into account not only the dimensions of the walls, but the floor and ceiling, since these two positions also need insulation.

Material selection

Insulation is placed in the crate on the inside of the balcony, which can be:

Foam insulation is one of the most common methods of thermal insulation for balconies and loggias.

Styrofoam... The cheapest of these materials is plain white foam, 5 cm thick. If a room is insulated in cold latitudes, then you can take a thicker foam, it can reach a thickness of up to 10 cm.It can be easily cut into the required number of parts, and you can not additionally strengthen it, but immediately place the lathing in the cells for finishing materials. The material is absolutely safe both when working with it and during subsequent use. The insulation is completely odorless, does not emit toxic substances, and the evaporation of styrene in small quantities does not affect human health. The installation of the material takes place without the formation of dust.

Mineral wool insulation

Mineral wool... Mineral wool is a little more expensive, but its sound insulation performance is much higher, so if you need to get rid of extraneous sounds, it is better to use it. This material is completely natural and completely fireproof. The combustion temperature of mineral wool starts from a thousand degrees. The inconvenience of laying mineral wool briquettes lies in the mandatory observance of safety measures. The material contains small glass particles that cause itching of the skin. Installation must be carried out in protective special clothing, goggles and a respirator.

Expanded clay... The material is an environmentally friendly insulation. The word "expanded clay" is translated from Greek as "burnt clay". The material is more often used when insulation of floors and ceilings... It is not entirely profitable for them to insulate the walls, since they additionally need to prepare a metal mesh as a support.

The installation of high-quality double-glazed windows plays an important role in the insulation of a balcony or loggia. - you will find the answer here.

Penofol... This material is one of the thermal insulating agents that has a reflective effect. It is a layer of self-extinguishing polyethylene foam with closed air cells. High quality aluminum plating, 14 microns thick, 99.4% pure on one or both sides. Penofol is a versatile material with steam, - hydro, - wind, - sound insulation properties. The material has the appearance of a thin, flexible, lightweight and environmentally friendly structure. As an additional vapor barrier, you can use it, it is very convenient for them to work, since it is sold in rolls and can be easily cut even with ordinary scissors. This material protects the room from outside moisture and removes condensation from the room.

Penoplex... It is a new material specially developed for the insulation of premises. The material is very easy to install due to its low weight, so its use on the balcony is now relevant. It is produced in the form of rectangular slabs of various thicknesses, which can be easily cut with a clerical knife. It is also possible to manufacture "sandwich panels" by pouring. Insulation with a rough surface allows you to easily attach and glue them with other materials.

Izolon

Izolon... It is also a versatile material in terms of use. Confirmed safety in use as a heater and vapor barrier element. Excellent sound insulation performance.

The degree of thermal conductivity is compared:

  • with 15 cm brickwork
  • with 4.5 cm of wood
  • with 4.5 cm of mineral wool
  • with 1.2 cm of expanded polystyrene

Reduces noise of at least 18 dB.

These are the main materials for creating an insulating layer, which are now easy to find in any hardware store. We hope you now have more information about how how can you insulate the balcony from the inside, and then we will consider how to do it.

How to insulate

One of the best methods for laying insulation is layer-by-layer:

  • First, the surface is waterproofed
  • The next layer is the selected insulation material, which is also attached with appropriate fasteners. These can be nails, screws, plastic fasteners with wide heads.
  • Then a vapor barrier is laid, which is attached with a construction stapler.
  • At the final stage, finishing material is attached to the crate with the help of special fastening materials

Styrofoam sheets are installed in the crate, and the joints are covered with polyurethane foam

You should get a layer with a thickness of approximately 60 - 70 mm, this is the distance from the outer layer to the finishing layer. This size may vary depending on climatic conditions. It must be understood that any layer of insulation requires financial costs and labor, therefore it is better to immediately make a balcony conscientiously and not try to save on trifles.

In a situation with floor insulation on the balcony the sequence is also the most. If it is decided to fill the floor with concrete, then first expanded clay is laid and the solution is distributed on top of it. The concrete solution must be carefully distributed with a special rule and try to make the surface as smooth as possible. Then ceramic tiles or other finishing materials can be laid on such a surface. Roll-type underfloor heating can be installed under the final finishing, and this will provide additional insulation of the room.

If the option of a wooden floor is chosen, then first the guide joists are laid, between which the insulation is laid. Then a finishing board or chipboard is laid on the logs. Laying of chipboard is necessary if the installation of laminate or linoleum will be carried out further. It is also worth noting that under the laminate you need to lay special backing, which will provide additional thermal insulation. When the finishing of the walls and floors is completed, the skirting boards are installed, which hide the joints of the finishing.

In the complex of works on the insulation of the balcony, it is necessary to pay attention to the ceiling. The process of warming is carried out in the same way as walls and floors. The task will be complicated by the moment when the balcony or loggia is on the top floor and there is no ceiling. In this case, you need to take into account the additional costs for the installation of the ceiling and roof.

When working on the insulation of the balcony, you should not fuss and rush this can lead to an unreasonably high consumption of material. If you approach the matter with attention and carry out constant calculations, then you can acquire a full-fledged additional room for little money.
