Connecting an electric water heater. Diagram of connecting the boiler to the water supply in the apartment

Having chosen a storage water heater that is suitable for price and quality, a person thinks about how to install it. Today there are two options for solving the problem: call a specialist who will install the boiler for a fee, or do all the work yourself.

Naturally, calling a specialist is the easiest, but at the same time expensive way. Therefore, there is nothing left to do but connect the water heater yourself. If you have a minimum set necessary tools and consumables installation work won't take much time. But, before proceeding with the actual installation of the boiler, you need to at least understand a little about the features of operation and device such a water heating device. And also, does it make sense to connect a storage boiler as the main source of supply? hot water in the house.

The main advantages and disadvantages of using a boiler

The fundamental feature of the operation of storage water heating devices operating on electricity is systematic heating of water with further maintaining the set temperature in the tank. I would like to note that such water heating devices have the following advantages:

Naturally, an electric storage boiler also has a number of disadvantages:

  • it takes a certain time to heat water to a given temperature;
  • the constant need to maintain water in a heated state if it is slowly consumed;
  • enough large sizes storage water heater and, as a consequence, the need to decide where to place such a device;
  • when installing a boiler in a basement or attic in order to save useful space, you will always have to run up the steps to adjust the device;
  • regular preventative maintenance, as heating elements operate in an aggressive environment;
  • cost of savings electric water heater usually higher than the flow analogue;
  • storing water in a storage tank, especially long time, leads to the fact that it can deteriorate and cannot be used for drinking;
  • After the liquid cools, the development of microorganisms and harmful bacteria can occur in it.

In order to make the right choice and purchase a suitable storage boiler, you need to find out for what purpose it is necessary to install such a device in the house. If you plan to use a water heater for taking a shower, then a device with a tank volume of 100 liters is quite sufficient for a family of two people. If you want to soak in the bath, then the size of the storage tank should be more than 120–160 liters. If storage water heater will supply hot water to several intake points, then it is better to install a device with a 200 liter tank.

Preparatory stage for connecting water heaters

On preparatory stage perform direct installation of the boiler. At the same time, first of all you need to choose the right place where the water heater will be located. Such a water heating device can be placed almost anywhere where there is a water supply and electrical line. AC.

But before installing the device, you need to understand that the weight of a tank filled with water is quite large and not any wall can withstand it for a long time. Therefore for reliable fastening boiler It is better to install it on a load-bearing wall, and not on a weak interior partition.

Having chosen a suitable place to install the storage water heater, mount it directly to the wall. At the same time, there are some features of installing a boiler, following which all the work can be done with your own hands without any problems.

  1. Holes are drilled in the supporting structure of the wall for anchor fasteners, the position of which is determined by trying on an empty boiler directly at the installation site. Some manufacturers supply a paper template of the device with the water heater, which greatly simplifies its installation.
  2. After preparing the holes the boiler is attached to the wall and anchor bolts are driven through the eyes in the water heater mounting.
  3. The next step is final tightening. anchor bolts for reliable fixation of the boiler.

After the water heating device is installed on its permanent place dislocation, proceed to inserting it into the water supply system and connecting it to electrical network AC.

How to connect a water heater to AC power?

In order for the storage boiler to work correctly, it must be connect to the electrical network, and according to the diagram, do not forget to ground the device. That's why the best option the device will be plugged into a ready-made socket for washing machine. Naturally, if the installation of electrical wiring was carried out by professional electricians.

If there is no such outlet in the apartment or you need to make a new connection to the device, then it is better to call specialists, as there are reasons for this:

  • any work related to electricity requires minimal experience and knowledge, since failure to comply with generally accepted rules can lead to electric shock or damage to an electrical appliance;
  • the homeowner has the opportunity to complain about poor quality work, naturally, if an agreement has been concluded with the contractor;
  • and, finally, there is no need to figure out which cable to choose and what protection to use when installing a water heater.

Naturally, you can connect the boiler to the electrical network with your own hands. To do this, it is advisable to lay a separate line directly from distribution panel using powerful electric cable. At the same time, as a plug with a socket It's better to use a circuit breaker, to which, according to the diagram, the cable from the distribution panel is connected at one end and the water heater cord at the other end. And that's all electrical installation work must be completed before connecting the device to the water supply.

Connecting a water heater to a water supply system - boiler insertion diagram

When storage tank weighs on the wall and all the tools and consumables proceed to connecting the water heater to the supply pipe cold water. In this case, all work on inserting a storage boiler into the central main of the internal water supply system according to the diagram is reduced to a certain sequence of actions.

The first step is to shut off the water supply to the apartment or house. From the inlet and outlet fittings to the horizontal water pipes for cold and hot water supply, respectively, the shortest segments are marked using a plumb line.

Both water pipes cut with an electric grinder or a special pipe cutter, it all depends on the material from which the pipeline is made. But before this, it is advisable to place a convenient container under the cut site into which the remaining water accumulated in the pipes will drain.

The next step is to prepare the cutting site. In the case of polymer pipes, they are terminated at the ends. If it is a metal pipe, then the thread is cut using a die.

The next step is to install the tees. In the case of a metal water pipe use threaded fitting, if it is a polymer pipe, then a welded or crimped analogue is used. In this case, during the installation of the fitting, it is important that the free end of the tee is directed towards the boiler.

Then a check valve is screwed to the inlet fitting, after which a shut-off valve is installed. At the same time, the check valve will prevent the outflow of water in case of interruptions in the water supply, and the valve will allow you to repair the boiler without turning off the tap on the central water supply line.

Well, finally, the free end of the shut-off valve is connected to the fitting on the cold water supply. In turn, the outlet fitting of the boiler is connected with a straight piece of pipe to the hot water supply.

When all work on connecting the boiler is completed water supply can be restored in a house or apartment and enjoy the result of the work done.

The main mistakes made when installing a boiler

If the homeowner decides to independently connect the storage water heater, under no circumstances should the following things be done:

And most importantly, under no circumstances safety precautions must not be neglected when connecting a boiler - a fairly powerful electrical appliance. If you have any doubts about the correctness of carrying out installation work yourself, it is advisable to seek help from professionals.

To understand what water heaters are, how to connect such devices and what are the benefits of using them, you do not need to be a professional electrician or builder. All installation Every person can do the job who is at least a little familiar with the construction of plumbing and knows how to understand the simplest electrical diagrams. The main thing is attentiveness, following all safety rules and, of course, desire, without which it is better not to take on such work on your own.

Increasingly, an electric water heater is being installed in apartments and private houses instead of a gas water heater. It is easy to use and does not require special permission, design and other red tape, as with gas analogues. Even if the apartment has a hot water supply, the boiler will become a kind of reserve in case it is turned off. But such a seemingly simple electrical appliance must be correctly connected to home plumbing. Mistakes made can lead to failure of the boiler and even rupture of the tank from overpressure. Let's now look at how to connect a boiler to a water supply, and what types there are.

When considering electric boilers, we can distinguish two main types: flow-through and storage. Each of them has its own disadvantages and advantages, but they all perform one function - they provide hot water.

Storage boilers

An electric water heater with a large tank is called storage. It is convenient because you can make a small supply of water. If the pipeline is connected correctly, that is, it is provided drain valve, this reserve can be used when there is no water supply in the apartment or house for some reason.

The storage boiler consists of the following parts:

  • a tank of a certain water capacity, insulated with polyurethane foam, placed in an outer casing made of stainless steel or enameled steel;
  • There is a heating element installed inside the tank - heating element. Its power varies from 1.2 to 3 kW. There are models with “dry” heating elements. In them heating element does not come into contact with water, but is separated by a special flask filled with oil;
  • the operation of the heating element is controlled by a thermostat, and the magnesium anode protects metal surfaces from corrosion.

In operating condition, hot water is constantly under pressure inside the boiler, the temperature of which is set by the user.

An electric water heater with a volume of up to 150 liters is equipped with a heating element with a power of no more than 2 kW. Constantly maintaining hot water in it at a temperature of 60–65 o is considered economically beneficial.

Among the advantages of the device are the following:

  • heater power no more than regular iron allows you to connect the storage water heater to a regular outlet, but it must be grounded;
  • a simple connection to the water supply and electrical network can be done independently;
  • smooth temperature control and long-term preservation of hot water emphasizes the efficiency and comfort of using the device;
  • from the boiler it is possible to conduct autonomous system hot water supply or connect it to the existing network as a reserve.

If we talk about the disadvantages, here we can highlight the large dimensions and weight, which complicates installation on the wall. If you need a small amount of hot water, you will have to heat the contents of the entire tank.

Flow type boilers

Such devices cut directly into the water pipe and heat water only when it flows. So that the heating element has time to heat running water, its power varies from 3 kW or more.

Under such a heater, it may be necessary to lay a separate branch of electrical wiring of a larger cross-section. But this does not mean that it will consume more electricity than its storage counterpart. The flow-through unit heats only the amount of water required for use, and not the entire tank. For example, to heat an eighty-liter water tank with a 2 kW heating element to 60°C, it will take about half an hour. During this time, 1 kW of electricity is consumed. A flow-through unit with a 4 kW heating element will immediately supply hot water to the shower within 15 minutes, using the same 1 kW.

The main advantages of flow models are as follows:

  • Electricity consumption occurs only when using water, and at the outlet it is supplied hot immediately after switching on;
  • Small dimensions allow you to mount the device in any convenient place.

Unfortunately, there are many more disadvantages:

  • installation of reinforced electrical wiring is required;
  • weak pressure of hot water at the outlet and the impossibility of directing it to different points from one unit;
  • stepwise temperature control is not very comfortable for using, for example, a shower.

Today, the price of flow-through models is decreasing, so it is possible to install several pieces at different points.

Installation of a flow unit

The instructions supplied with the product will help you connect the flow heater correctly. The scheme is quite simple. It involves inserting taps into the water supply system to connect the unit and supplying electrical wiring of the appropriate cross-section to it.

An instantaneous water heater can have two types of connection:

When using flow-through heaters, you must ensure that voltage is not applied without water in the pipes. Otherwise it may burn out.

Step-by-step instructions for installing a storage boiler

The installation diagram for a storage boiler is a little more complicated. Here you will need to correctly route the pipeline, securely secure the tank, and make electrical connections.

Choosing a location for the tank and its installation

The storage container takes up a certain space in the room, so it must be placed efficiently so as not to take up unnecessary space. But at the same time, the boiler should be located as close as possible to the water supply points. The remote location of the water tap from the heater increases the wait for hot water to arrive.

Convenient placement of a storage boiler with a separate bathroom

The mounting location is selected according to the layout of the room:

  • The layout in a private house is different from apartments. Here the bathroom, toilet and kitchen can be located far from each other, and one boiler must supply hot water to all rooms. Here we need to define important room, where heated water should be supplied first and install a water heater closer to it;
  • The traditional layout of the apartment provides for the combination of all these rooms, so choosing the location of the tank here will be easier.

Most often, the tank is installed above the toilet. It does not take up useful space and is located close to the sewer, which makes it convenient to drain water from the safety valve. The unit is secured to the wall with anchors. The water tank has heavy weight, so if the wall is loose under it from profile pipe weld additional support.

Connecting the water supply

The optimal connection option is considered to be a circuit with the ability to drain water from the container.

The step-by-step execution of the work looks like this:

  1. The house is disconnected from the cold water supply, and the hot water riser in the apartment is additionally shut off. The collection of all components of the circuit begins from the water heater suspended on the wall. To seal the connections, flax or FUM tape is wound around the threads.
  2. At the bottom of the tank there are two threaded pipes. On the right is the cold water inlet, marked in blue, and on the left is the hot water outlet, marked in red. Packing begins with cold water.
  3. A brass tee is screwed onto the inlet pipe. It must be turned with a transverse hole in a convenient direction to drain the water. A ball valve is screwed into the same hole through a brass adapter. A pipe with a hose for draining water is connected to it. A ball valve is also screwed into the downward thread of the tee to shut off the supply of cold water inside the container.
  4. Now it’s time for the most important thing – the safety unit. The boiler is equipped with a safety valve, which is mounted immediately behind the lower valve on the tee. To install it correctly, there is a guide arrow on the body. On the side of the valve there is a fitting for bleeding water. A transparent reinforced hose is attached to it with a clamp and lowered into the sewer.
  5. Original valves are not always reliable, so they often buy a “safety group” separately. It consists of check valve, installed on the tap coming out of the bottom thread of the tee. Safety valve placed separately on the middle outlet of the tee.
  6. Next, it remains to supply cold water. This can be done with any pipes, for example, metal-plastic or eco-plastic, if desired. In order not to cut the main water supply pipe, the connection can be made through a tee, installing it on the threaded connection of the toilet tank or washbasin tap.
  7. The hot water unit is assembled in the same way as the cold one, only without a valve. In a private house, from the outlet of hot water from the boiler, pipelines are laid to water supply points. In the apartment, the water heater outlet is connected to the hot water supply pipeline. In this case, when the boiler is operating, close the tap on the riser supplying centralized hot water.

At this point, the water heater is connected to the water supply system, all that remains is to connect the electrical wiring and can be used for its intended purpose.

Connecting the boiler to an open container

Sometimes in a private house you can find an open water pipe instead of a water pipe. storage capacity for water installed in the attic. You can also connect a water heater to it in a similar way. The only condition is that the unit must be no closer than 2 m to the tank. And if a pressure of more than 6 bar is created, then a reducer is installed in front of the boiler.

There are 2 schemes for connecting to an open container:

Once all connections have been completed, the system is tested for functionality. If everything was done correctly, the room will be provided with hot water.

IN lately Electric water heaters have become increasingly popular. This allows you to not depend on public utilities and always be provided with hot water. Installation of boilers does not require any special permission from supervisory organizations and can be done with your own hands if you have at least minimal plumbing skills. So how to connect the boiler in such a way as to avoid mistakes?

Preliminary work

Depending on the type of heating device, the procedure for connecting the water heater to the pressure pipeline is carried out. As such a device in houses and apartments they use either an electric boiler or a gas water heater. Other types of heaters, such as a flow-through electric heater or a storage gas boiler, are not very popular.

Preliminary work should begin with the installation of the water heater. To do this, you need to decide on the place where the boiler or column will be located.

The column should be placed not far from the free valve of the domestic gas pipeline in a room that should be well ventilated. Exactly That's why geysers most often installed in the boiler room or kitchen, where there is an exhaust hood and a branch from the gas pipeline.

A storage boiler can be installed anywhere, because water and electricity are supplied anywhere. However, before connecting, take into account the fact that a filled heater weighs a lot, as well as its accumulative nature, which limits the volume of hot water. As a result of this The boiler is installed on load-bearing wall , which is located at the same distance from the bathroom and kitchen. If the layout of the apartment is such that the kitchen and bathroom are “scattered” throughout the house, then you should purchase two boilers. Otherwise, the water, coming from the heater to the point of consumption, quickly cools down.

To connect a storage boiler, you will need the following items:

  • gas and adjustable wrench;
  • tees for inserting into pipelines;
  • polypropylene or metal-plastic pipes and fittings for them;
  • Mayevsky crane;
  • screwdriver set;
  • shut-off valves ball valves;
  • tow with paste;
  • safety and check valve.

As additional element a coarse water filter can be used.

Pipeline tapping

The storage water heater is connected to the water supply using a tie-in into existing pipelines. If the hot water distribution in the apartment is made of metal-plastic or polypropylene pipes, then it is necessary to cut the lines very close to the device and install tees at the cut points. Don't forget turn off the water before starting work.

If tees are installed in a polypropylene pipeline, then you will need a device for installing this material. If the pipes are metal-plastic, then the tees are installed using an adjustable wrench.

If in an apartment metal pipes, That welding machine may not be used. Instead, a special clamp is used for insertion. It should be mounted on a previously cleaned pipe and clamped with screws, and then through the outlet pipe into water pipe drill a hole. Thanks to the protective plastic sleeve, the threads inside the pipe cannot be damaged, and the rubber backing, which is located between the fitting and the pipe, ensures a tight connection.

Shut-off valves must be connected to the installed tees, from which the connection to the boiler should be made using polypropylene or metal-plastic pipes. The use of polypropylene pipes allows them to be hidden in the wall without the risk of future leaks.

Boiler connection diagram

The water heater is connected using a certain scheme. This boiler connection diagram provides for installation in mandatory safety and shut-off valve. You can also use the inexpensive solution included in the package, and some people assemble a security group with their own hands. In this case, the elements are installed on the inlet pipe of the water heater in the following order:

  • tee;
  • ball valve used to drain water from the container;
  • safety and check valve;
  • shut-off valve;
  • pipeline.

If such a need arises, a reducer is installed on the supply pipeline, which reduces the water pressure, and a coarse filter.

A tee should be installed on the “hot” pipe. A pipeline that is laid from the hot water supply system and a shut-off valve are connected to its direct outlet. A an additional ball valve or Mayevsky valve is connected to the side outlet of the tee. Such elements are necessary so that there is no vacuum in the tank when draining water during maintenance or repair.

Thanks to this connection scheme, the water supply to the boiler can be shut off if it is necessary to remove it, without turning off other water points. At the same time, you can continue to use the centralized water supply by simply opening the valve at the entrance to the apartment. When the storage boiler is operating, this tap must be closed, otherwise the unit will heat water for all neighbors.

How to connect a water heater to a water supply

The connection diagram of the water heater to the water supply depends on the power of the boiler, namely, how many water points it can provide. If it is used for one tap over the sink or shower head, then in this case the connection is very simple. Simply make an insertion into the pipeline with cold water, using fittings for polypropylene or metal-plastic. If the pipes are metal, then use a crimp clamp.

One end of the ball valve is connected to the tee, and the other is connected to flexible hose, thanks to which cold water will flow to the inlet pipe of the water heater.

Sometimes they buy a boiler with a low capacity and a shower head. Use it only when the hot water is turned off. In this case the device is connected directly to the corrugated shower hose, having first removed the watering can from it. Cold water is supplied by opening the mixer to the “shower” position.

If you need to connect the water heater to two or more water collection points, then it is necessary to arrange a special piping using additional locking devices and splitters.

Connection diagram flow device, which supplies water to several hot water consumers, is a simplified way to connect a water heater.

For the device, you should choose a location that will be located remotely from all water collection points. After this, follow these recommendations:

  • Tees are cut into the hot and cold water supply pipelines.
  • Ball valves are installed on the tees. Thanks to this, the device can be removed without cutting off the cold water supply.
  • Connect the necessary outlets of the water heater to the taps using flexible wiring or using polypropylene or metal-plastic pipes.

After cold water supply it is necessary to plug in the water heater and check all connections for leaks. If the need arises, then all seals can be made better without tightening the nuts too much.

Conclusion

Connecting a water heater to a water supply is a rather complicated process. Without correct scheme connections and necessary recommendations, one can easily make a mistake. Therefore, without having at least minimal knowledge in this area, it is better to invite a professional to do the work, who will do everything efficiently and reliably.

Despite the fact that each apartment has a hot water supply, however, sometimes there are interruptions in its supply. It is in such a situation that a device such as a water heater will help. This device can be installed in any apartment that has a cold water riser. The boiler can be used as an additional source of hot water when it disappears from the taps. It can also act as the main one if the home is not connected to a centralized water supply system.

IN present moment offered on the market various types water heaters. Along with gas boilers, electric boilers are also available. The use of such equipment should be considered as the most economical way organization of hot water supply in urban housing. A boiler is especially beneficial if water tariffs are higher than electricity tariffs. When faced with the problem of a shortage of hot water, you cannot do without a water heater. But buying a boiler is half the battle. It is even more important to install it correctly and connect this installation to the water supply and electrical network.

How to choose a place to install water heaters?

Uninterrupted operation of the boiler is only possible if the installation work is carried out correctly. Before connecting the water heater, you must decide on its location. In most homes, such equipment is installed in bathrooms in close proximity to water risers. The usual place for its placement is the toilet, since this is where the water supply risers most often pass. The bathroom is less often used to install this unit.

By placing the unit next to the risers, good water pressure is ensured - one of the conditions for trouble-free operation of the boiler. Installation of the water heater is complicated by its heavy weight. To secure it, you need to choose a solid wall. If you decide to place it on a thin partition, it will not be able to cope with such a load and the tank will fall to the floor.

If we talk about the connection diagram this equipment, we note that it is quite simple. The home owner can carry out this work independently, without the help of specialists. If you have chosen a toilet as the location for this installation, then you need to position it in such a way that it does not interfere with the use of the toilet. In some cases, when the apartment has an inconvenient layout, two water heaters are placed at once. When it is necessary to provide hot water in the kitchen and bathroom, this is the best solution.

An installation with a large-volume tank is placed in the toilet, since the water consumption there is much greater. And in the kitchen they install a boiler with a smaller capacity. Experts recommend placing the boiler in the kitchen under or above the sink. As for the toilet, in this room best option to place this installation - above the toilet or sink.

When the installation location is determined, it is necessary to select a connection diagram. There should not be any in the immediate vicinity of the equipment. foreign objects. Eat a number of requirements for the installation site things you should know about:

  • No wiring should run near the boiler;
  • near the installation site there should be risers to which the tank and control devices will be connected.

If you decide to install a water heater yourself, you will have to put in a lot of effort. In this case There are three options:

In most cases, you can connect the boiler yourself without any difficulty. If you are determined to do this job yourself, you need to prepare. First of all, you will need certain tools and materials to perform installation work:

When purchasing a boiler, the consumer may find that it comes with Fasteners:

  • First, a metal strip is attached to the wall, on which the unit will later be fixed;
  • then a metal strip is attached to the water heater, which will then be installed on the wall surface using bolts.

When performing this work, you cannot do without using building level, since one of the installation requirements is that the boiler must be in a strictly horizontal or vertical position.

When the installation of the boiler is completed, it is necessary to carry out equally important work to connect it to the water supply and electrical network.

Connection to water supply

There are usually no difficulties when connecting the boiler to the water supply network. When performing this work use simple diagram installation, which includes choosing the location for installing the device and connecting the pipes. When performing installation work, it is necessary follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Work order

By spending a couple of hours of your time, you can make a high-quality connection of the storage boiler to the water supply.

Boiler installation is best carry out near the place where hot water will be used. This will minimize heat loss.

If the water in the pipes is different low quality, then the equipment ahead of schedule does not fail, you need to connect a filter at the input. It is usually not included with an electric water heater, so it will have to be purchased at an additional cost.

If there is no waterproofing of the floor in the room in which the water heating device will be installed, then in this case it is necessary to install a tray. Thanks to it, water will be drained into the sewer through drainage pipes. It is also not included with this equipment, so you need to take care of purchasing them.

Connecting the boiler to the network yourself

The first thing you need to pay attention to is wiring type, used by the storage boiler manufacturer – lower or upper. Before connecting the unit, you should read the manufacturer’s recommendations on how to properly install the device - horizontally or vertically. Please note that some models can be installed using both methods.

Before you start connecting the storage water heater to the electrical network with your own hands, you must turn off the electricity. Then you should disconnect the wires, and only then can you proceed to wiring. Please ensure that the phases are followed during work.

During installation don't forget about grounding. Without it, using the equipment is prohibited, since in this case the risk to the health and life of the owners increases.

Before turning on the electricity, you must close the protective cover of the water heater. You can only open it if you have turned off the power.

Until the boiler tank is at least a third full, the electricity should not be turned on.

Conclusion

Connecting a storage boiler - not so much difficult task , so you can do it yourself. In order for the installation to be of high quality, it is necessary to carefully study the manufacturer’s instructions for installing this equipment before starting work. In addition, during installation you must follow safety rules. In some cases, of course, assistants will be needed. The need for them will arise when connecting a boiler with a large-capacity tank to the wall. Such equipment is quite heavy and it is problematic to install it alone. In this case, you can ask your family for help.

In some cases, installation can be performed by specialists. If you are encountering boilers for the first time and have never worked with wiring before, then in this case there is a high risk that the equipment will not work after installation is completed or its service life will be short. To be sure of the quality of installation, it is worth investing in the services of professional craftsmen. They're in short term will install the equipment.

IN modern apartment the water heater has become an indispensable part engineering communications. He is especially remembered good word when the hot water is turned off. However, many are scared by the question of connecting a water heater with their own hands. In fact, connecting a storage water heater in an apartment is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Let's see how to connect a storage water heater with your own hands in practice. At the same time, we will connect it in such a way that it can serve several water points. But first, let's look at the standard water heater connection diagram and functional features its components.

Water heater connection diagram

The standard connection diagram for a storage water heater is shown in the figure below. The configuration of the connection diagram is determined both by the operating characteristics of the water heater itself and by the need to temporarily turn it off and drain the water.

Fig.1.

You should pay attention to the following components of the circuit - these are valve No. 1, 2, 3 and a check valve.

Check valve prevents hot water from draining through a cold water pipe. The principle of operation of a storage water heater is that under the pressure of cold water, hot water is squeezed out of the tank. Structurally, this is organized in such a way that cold water is supplied from the bottom of the tank, and hot water is taken from the top. Without a check valve, hot water will flow into the cold water supply.

It would seem that this is impossible, but this is only at first glance. This situation occurs quite often in the absence of a check valve and at the same time the cold and hot water supply is turned off. In this case, when you open a hot water tap, air leaks in and water from the tank goes into the cold water supply system.

Tap No. 1 and Tap No. 2 always work in pairs, they are necessary to isolate the storage water heater from the water supply system. These valves are in the open position when the water heater is connected, and closed when it is turned off. Thanks to these taps, you can turn off the storage water heater not only when the hot water supply is restored, but also to remove it, for example, for repairs.

Crane No. 3 necessary to turn off the hot water supply. It is just as important as the rest of the circuit components. If you do not turn off this tap while using the storage water heater, your neighbors can use your hot water. This happens because the hot water from the water heater is connected to the central hot water supply system, and all the water will go into the common system.

Installation of a storage water heater

The installation of a water heater begins with determining the location where it will be located. At this stage, several requirements must be met.

  • It is advisable to install a storage water heater near hot and cold water risers, this will make it easier to turn it on and off.
  • The water heater should be installed at such a height that it is convenient to set the required temperature, i.e. The heater automation unit must be within reach.
  • There should be an electrical outlet next to the storage water heater. In this case, the electrical outlet must be located at a distance of at least 1 m from the bathtub or washbasin.
  • A storage water heater is electrical appliance high power and potentially dangerous. Therefore, it is advisable to provide a separate electric line. To connect water heaters with a power of up to 3 kW to the electrical network, a wire with a cross-section of 2.5 mm is used. In addition, an RCD (short circuit protection device) is installed on this line if this device has not been installed previously or the water heater does not have its own RCD.
  • To connect a storage water heater, it is necessary to provide two outlets for cold and hot water in the apartment’s water supply system.

Fig.2.

If all of the above conditions are met, then to connect the storage water heater you need to do the following work.

  • Purchase 2 hoses and 2 ball valves.
  • Mount the water heater on the wall using the fasteners that usually come with the water heater.
  • Install a check valve on the cold water supply pipe to the water heater.
  • Install ball valves on the bends.
  • Using hoses, connect the water heater to the outlets of the water supply system.

In practice, when installing a storage water heater, two difficulties are often encountered: lack of space for installation and the lack of outlets for connecting the water heater in the apartment’s water supply system. These two issues can be resolved quite simply.

A storage water heater, in principle, can be installed anywhere. Often heaters with a volume of up to 50 liters can be easily mounted under the sink. Of course, servicing it will not be very convenient, but this solves the problem of lack of space.

Fig.3.

The water heater can be connected not only to stationary outlets, but also to the installation sites of mixers. To do this, it is necessary to install tees and run branches from them to the water heater. Such bends can be made from metal-plastic pipes. You can do it even simpler, use long hoses.

Turning on/off the storage water heater

The initial parameters are valve No. 1 and No. 2 in the closed position, valve No. 3 in the open position. To turn on the water heater, it is necessary to move valve No. 1 and No. 2 to the open position, and valve No. 3 to the closed position. To turn off the water heater, do the opposite.

How to drain water from a water heater

In order to drain water from the water heater, you must perform the following steps.

  • Close tap No. 1 and No. 2.
  • Remove the check valve and put a hose on the heater inlet for easy draining.
  • Disconnect the pipe or hose from the hot water connection on the water heater.
  • After that, the water will drain under the influence of gravity through a hose connected to the cold water pipe on the water heater.

PHOTO of water heater connection

Now a few photos of how the water heater is actually connected. It should be said that connecting a storage water heater should begin with determining its installation location. IN in this example the water heater is installed above the bathtub, and the entire pipeline is mounted under the bathtub and in a box covering the sewer pipes. This was done because the water heater was connected after laying the tiles. It turned out not very aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, the connection of the water heater must be planned at the stage of laying water pipes.

Fig.4.

The photo shows the supply of hot and cold water to the storage water heater and the installed check valve. I want to draw your attention. That winding should be done only together with the connections of the check valve and the cold water pipe. With this method of connecting with hoses, there is no need to rewind. IN in this case This was a necessary measure, because The hoses turned out to be of poor quality. The pressure release handle is wrapped with electrical tape because... cracked over time.

Fig.5.

The photo shows taps No. 1 and No. 2; they are led directly to the water heater for ease of turning on and off.

Shown here is a plumbing connection. The middle pipe is the hot water supply. It is covered in the photo. The top pipe is the water supply from the water heater to the system. The far right one goes from the water heater, the middle one goes to the faucet in the bathroom and the left one goes to the rest of the system.
