It is believed that the bastard is of interest only due to its green mass and unusual crown shape. But, if the plant is properly looked after, it can bloom even at home. Fortunately, crop care is minimal, and we will discuss its main steps below.

Types of fat women

In nature, there are quite a few varieties of the fat woman, and some of them grow not only on land, but also in water. In addition, the types of money tree are divided into annual and perennial.

Oval

The culture can reach a height of one meter. Thick branches of the culture are densely covered with small oval leaves without petioles.

The external features of the dotted bastard make it possible to classify it as a herbaceous plant. Its stems are not like the branches of a tree and spread along the ground. The leaves are ovoid and pointed towards the edge.

Sunset

Schmidt

The Schmidt variety is annual, and the plant itself looks like a small compact shrub... The culture of this type is appreciated for the fact that it blooms regularly and, thus, is a valuable decoration for the home or garden.

Note: It should be borne in mind that after flowering, the life of the culture ends, and it must be thrown away. In the remaining pot, you can plant a new Schmidt fat woman.

Not only the flowers of the plant are valuable, but also its leaves. They have a slightly pointed shape, tapering towards the edge, and on top they are covered with a characteristic silvery bloom. The bottom of the leaf plate has a slight reddish tint. During the flowering period, the bush is abundantly covered with bright red inflorescences.

The hobbit

This is a very unusual variety that differs from others in the original shape of the leaves. Outwardly, they resemble dark green tubes, for which the culture was named after a fantastic character.

Proper watering

It is important to remember that the money tree does not tolerate excess moisture well. From this, its roots will begin to rot, and the leaves will crumble. To prevent a similar problem, it is necessary to clearly define a suitable time for watering (Figure 3).

Watering the fat woman should be like this:

1. Water is brought in only after the earth in the pot dries out 3-4 cm deep;
2. During the period of vegetative dormancy (from November to February), they not only reduce the temperature in the room, but also almost completely stop watering. It is enough to ensure that the soil in the pot is not completely dry;
3. At the bottom of the pot, drainage holes are required, through which excess moisture will drain into the pan. Without this condition, the water will stagnate at the roots, and the plant may die.

The money tree should be watered with settled water at room temperature. It is also not recommended to expose the flower pot in the sun immediately after watering, as in this case upper layer the soil will dry out quickly, and the bottom will remain moist.

Top dressing

To feed the fat woman, special preparations for succulents are used. But it is often not recommended to add them. In summer and spring, it will be enough to make such preparations once a month, and during the vegetative rest period - only once every three months.

The roots of the plant are very sensitive, therefore, for better absorption and prevention of burns, it is advisable to apply top dressing the next day after watering.

Pot selection

The material of the pot in which the fat woman will be grown can be anything. It all depends on your taste. The only prerequisite is the presence of drainage holes in the bottom of the tank.

Through these holes, excess moisture will be removed from the soil, and water will not stagnate at the roots, flowing into the sump. In pots without drainage holes, the roots of the bastard can quickly rot and the plant will die.

Transfer

The money tree should be transplanted once every two years. It is not recommended to do this more often in order not to cause unnecessary stress to the plant (Figure 4).

Note: It is important to choose the right pot size: it must fully correspond to the volume of the crop root system. In this case, it is desirable that the container be heavy and stable so that the tree does not accidentally fall to one side.

The fat woman requires a special soil for succulents. You can buy it in specialized stores or prepare it yourself by mixing 4 parts of turf soil and 1 part each of sand, humus and leafy soil. At the bottom of the new pot, a drainage layer (broken brick, pulverized coal or expanded clay) must be laid.

The tree is removed from the old pot, the roots are freed from the remains of the soil and carefully examined. If dry or rotten areas were found, they must be removed, and the sections should be sprinkled with crushed coal. It is advisable to leave the plant without a pot for a day so that it dries out, and only after that you can start transplanting in new pot.

Pruning

Crassula refers to those indoor plants that require periodic pruning. It's not just sanitization(removing dry and damaged branches), but also to give the plant a beautiful shape.

How to form a crown

To form the crown of the bastard, you need to regularly remove or shorten the lateral shoots that grow too much. It is important to take into account that at least four leaves should remain on the remaining branch.

The shape of the crown is also influenced by lighting, therefore, for a uniform build-up of green mass, it is recommended to periodically turn the flower to sunlight different sides.

Reproduction of the money tree

Propagating a fat woman is quite simple. To do this, you can use the method of dividing the bush, cuttings or the seed method. Each of them has certain characteristics.

Reproduction of the money tree, depending on the method, is carried out as follows:

1. Seeds: if you manage to collect the seeds of the bastard, you can grow a new plant from them. For this, the planting material is sown in separate containers filled with moist soil. You do not need to sprinkle the seeds with earth on top. It is enough to cover future crops with a jar or film. In the future, it is necessary to periodically spray the soil with water as it dries, and also periodically remove the shelter for ventilation. The first shoots will appear in two weeks. During this period, you need to remove the shelter and move the pots with sprouts to a well-lit place for further growing.

3. Cuttings: it is advisable to harvest cuttings in March-April, when the plant is just beginning to wake up after a period of vegetative dormancy. As a cutting, you can use both a part of a branch and an ordinary leaf. The resulting planting material is buried in moist soil (branches by 6 cm, and leaves by 1 cm). To stimulate the rooting process, it is advisable to cover the cuttings with a jar. The moisture content of the soil should be checked daily and, if necessary, the topsoil should be sprayed. The best way to propagate a fat woman at home is considered to be the cuttings method, since when dividing a bush there is a risk that the plant will not take root, and it is difficult to get seeds at home due to the irregular flowering of the culture.

Diseases and pests

Diseases of the fat woman in most cases are associated with improper care behind the plant. For example, over-watering the crop can suffer from root rot and fungal diseases, and if the plant is too hot or the air in the room is dry, leaves can begin to fall off.

Among the pests, the money tree most often affects the mealybug, spider mite or scabbard. The mealybug forms a characteristic white coating in the axils of the leaves, and the spider mite forms a small cobweb between the stems and leaves.
