The functionality and simplicity of sliding doors into the wall. Stages of installing a sliding door into a wall Cassette interior doors built into the wall

From the article you will learn:

To date, cassette doors have not yet received sufficient distribution among the population of our country. The culprit, oddly enough, is domestic companies whose core business is selling doors. Due to the fact that these companies do not replenish their range with doors of this type, most people simply do not know what cassette doors are. But such systems have quite a lot of different qualities aimed at providing a person who decides to install them in their home with maximum comfort from using them.

The design of cassette doors is a single-block sliding system mounted into the wall. When it is opened, the canvas is completely hidden in the wall, which is quite convenient solution, especially for owners of small apartments in which every centimeter of space is valued. It is worth saying that cassette doors are also called.

In this article we will describe the features of the cassette system, the principle of its operation, as well as the pros and cons inherent in doors of this type.

How do they work

IN general outline The principle of operation of the cassette solution is approximately similar to the principle of operation of roller-type sliding doors. In both types, the movement of the door leaf is carried out using roller wheels, however, the design feature of cassette doors includes the presence of a cassette - a kind of box that hides all the moving mechanisms and provides a temporary place for the door leaf when closing.

It comes down to performing a number of tasks, the main one of which is hiding a door block in a wall cavity. This solution is also designed to protect the mechanisms inside from possible damage and dust. By the way, appearance such a cassette, you can see in the picture below.

Pros and cons

Speaking about the advantages of such systems, it is necessary to mention the following, the most important:

  • Significant reduction in space necessary for the functioning of the doors. When conducting proper installation, compartment-type doors do not protrude beyond the boundaries of the doorway.
  • Ensuring a decent level of sound insulation. This fact became possible thanks to tight locking. Good, gapless closure is especially important for doors installed in the kitchen. Due to the fact that the specifics of the kitchen dictate its own special requirements for ensuring maximum insulation of adjacent rooms from odors emitted during cooking, it is necessary that the door block does not allow them to pass through. Cassette doors do an excellent job of this.
  • Possibility of manufacturing and installation single-leaf and double-leaf solutions. Now it doesn’t matter how wide the doorway is - a single-leaf cassette door will suit a narrow one, while a wide one will be perfectly closed by a system with two leaves.

In addition to these advantages, it should be mentioned that top door models are equipped - in some cases, the presence of this function will come in handy. A special device with a timer set for a certain response interval is responsible for auto-closing. The device is located inside the opening - with outside he is not visible. Such a device can operate either electrically or simply mechanically.

The negative factors of cassette-type doors include only a couple of features: 1. Price– she is very, very tall 2. Quite unusual editing sequence.

Types of cassette doors

The difference between these types of products lies in the size, design door leaf and in installed fittings.

  • The greatest demand is for cassette interior doors- compartments mounted in standard size openings. Such openings are suitable for structures with a door width from 400 to 1000 mm. If there is a larger opening in the room, the best option There will be installation of doors containing two leaves.
  • Possibility of retrofitting, or a system whose functions include automatic closing doors.

It is worth mentioning that the scope of application of products of this kind is not limited to residential premises. If necessary, cassette doors are installed in large commercial premises - at the entrance to shops, medical, sports centers, etc.

Brief installation sequence of the cassette system

It is immediately worth noting that independent work related to the installation of interior cassette doors in an apartment, without making minor mistakes, can be carried out by a person with basic training. home handyman almost impossible. Installation should be carried out only by professionals or craftsmen who have already encountered the installation of conventional swing interior doors and have a lot of free time at their disposal.

Let's consider the sequence of doing such work with your own hands:

  1. Doorway. Before installing a cassette in the doorway, it must be properly prepared - crush the partition. Next, you need to take the length and width values from the cassette, mark the opening for the cutout and, in fact, cut out the marked part of the wall, leaving 1-2 cm on each side for a margin.
  2. Cassette. So that the structure can be easily set in motion, and operation installed door was silent, installation of the cassette in the opening is carried out using building level. The cassette is secured either to the corners with self-tapping screws, or using polyurethane foam. Often, the two above methods are combined - in this way, maximum retention strength of the cassette component is achieved.
  3. Plasterboard finishing. The broken wall must be built up and aligned to the size of the door. For these purposes, drywall (gypsum board) is used. If you plan to install a cassette door in a bathroom or toilet room, That optimal choice There will be the use of moisture-resistant plasterboard. If possible, profile guides are used; if the distance does not allow, we attach the gypsum board using self-tapping screws to the cassette itself.

It is worth considering that self installation installation of cassette doors takes quite a long time, and in terms of labor costs it cannot be compared with the installation of conventional interior doors, as it has many nuances that are not described in the 3 points.

Interior cassette doors

The main feature of cassette sliding doors is that the door block is placed in the wall. The cassette, which hides the moving parts of the mechanism, consists of two parts: a sealed box in which the canvas is hidden, and a frame with guides. Together they form a single unit that does not require assembly before installation.

We offer two options for sliding door cassettes: with and without frame. In the first case, an aesthetic border is installed around the perimeter of the doorway. In the second, there is no such frame. When choosing a cassette, we recommend focusing on the style of the room as a whole.

  • Maximum space saving. The doors are completely located in the doorway.
  • Increased sound insulation. The door parts fit tightly together, blocking the spread of noise.
  • Large assortment. You can buy single and double doors for narrow and wide openings of different sizes.
  • Automatic closing. In our online store you can buy closers that smoothly close the door, controlling the closing force.
  • Aesthetics. They have a laconic design, so they harmonize well with interiors in any style.

The price of sliding cassettes depends on the model, size and selected fittings. We offer some of the lowest rates. IN small apartment There is so little space that even the opening of the interior door creates inconvenience. They help partially solve the problem, but the fabric extending behind the partition makes it difficult to install the furniture. The best option It is considered a cassette design, which provides for the sliding door to roll back into the wall due to the pencil case.

According to the principle of operation, cassette interior doors are no different from designs that require the door to be rolled back behind the wall. The mechanism consists of rollers and guide rails. The main difference is the ability to hide the door leaf inside the wall. This design is called a cassette or pencil case. It is made in the form of a flat box, replacing part of the wall. In addition to the sash, guide rails and a roller system are hidden inside the cassette.

Benefit from a pencil case for sliding doors - this is the creation free space inside the wall, the sash rolls into a cassette and does not interfere with installing furniture close to the interior partition. The pencil case protects the door leaf from dirt, scratching by pets and other damage.

For normal operation sliding door a wall thickness corresponding to the cassette parameters is required. The structure should form a niche that does not protrude beyond the plane of the pier. In the sliding system, the thickness of the sash and the side posts of the pencil case, as well as the gaps between the elements for free movement canvases. The width of the cassette is always made twice as large doorway. The half, intended for rolling back the canvas, is hidden behind a false plasterboard wall.

Varieties and features

The design is all the same. May vary dimensions, material, design of rollers and guide rails. The dimensions adhere to standards that imply a canvas height of 1.9–2 m and a width of 0.6 to 1 m. Built-in double doors compartment into the wall. If you need to deviate from the standards, the cassette is made to order in the required sizes.

The factory design is supplied in its entirety. The pencil case is already folded and ready for installation. At self-production the cassette is assembled from a thick board, timber, or galvanized profile. The door leaf can be adapted to any suitable size.

From additional accessories most often equip the system closer. The mechanism creates a smooth closing of the sash. For complete convenience, the sliding interior door, hidden in the wall, is equipped with automation. The canvas opens when a person approaches and closes after he passes through the doorway. The automation is triggered by sensor signals. The canvas is moved by an electric motor.

Automation is rarely installed in residential premises due to cost and impracticality. Autonomous systems are in demand in shops and other buildings where a large flow of people passes through the day.

Main advantages and disadvantages

When deciding to install a sliding door in a pencil case, you need to weigh all the pros and cons of the design. Advantage The following factors can be considered:

  • Space saving. The absence of a swing sash eliminates the formation of a dead zone. You can place furniture close to the wall and it will not interfere with the opening of the canvas.
  • Reduces the likelihood of injury. A person walking in the dark sometimes hits the end of an open swing door. The sensations are unpleasant and sometimes dangerous. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to hit the end of the sliding panel.
  • Increased service life. Due to the rollers, the weight of the door leaf is evenly distributed across the frame lintels. The box becomes more resistant to loosening and does not warp. The linen hidden inside the pencil case is protected from pets and will not be smeared by children.
  • Sliding design visually expands the space, creates a zoning effect, emphasizing the modern style in the interior.

Disadvantage is high price. A high-quality roller mechanism is expensive. Additionally, the costs of purchasing or manufacturing a pencil case are taken into account. It is difficult to install a cassette for a sliding door yourself. If you have no experience, you will have to hire specialists.

One more minus is reduction in sound insulation. There is a gap at the bottom and top of the end of the door leaf. It will not be possible to ensure silence in the room. Additionally, odors will penetrate from the kitchen through the gaps. The problem will have to be solved by installing a powerful hood.

Do-it-yourself cassette door installation

Before you start making a pencil case for a sliding door, determine the width of the opening. The design of the entire system will depend on this parameter. There are two types of cassette coupes:

  • Single leaf. Door blocks are designed for standard narrow passages to the bedroom, kitchen, etc.
  • Bivalve. Door blocks are designed for wide passages. Often such openings are installed in the living room or when combining rooms. The design consists of two separate cassettes installed according to different sides passage. The result is combined single-leaf systems, where each leaf rolls back in the opposite direction.

When making a pencil case for sliding doors with your own hands, take into account the type of wall. Ordinary non-load-bearing interior partition completely dismantled. In its place, a structure with a niche is being erected. A sliding door with a plasterboard partition forms a false wall, which is a cassette. The construction of a new wall allows you to save usable area due to the preservation of the original thickness.

Cannot be dismantled. The frame of the pencil case will have to be attached to the surface, and covered with plasterboard on top. The result will be a double thickening of the wall and a reduction in space, but there is no other way out.

The cassette compartment door is installed after the finished floor has been installed. By this time, the final leveling should be completed, and the thickness of the floor covering should be taken into account.

Installation procedure

They try to roll the hung door on rollers. The movement should be smooth, easy, without rumble or jumps. It is important not to forget about the limiters that serve as a stop for the sliding sash.

After successful test sliding design the niche frame is sheathed with sheets of plasterboard. Further actions are directed to decorative finishing false walls and framing the ends of the cassette forming the door frame.

Currently, sliding door designs are very popular. One of their varieties is a pencil case door. Essentially this is original solution, allowing you to give the interior a touch of elegance and sophistication.

It is worth noting that the pencil case door can come with a ready-made cassette or be without it. In the second case, you will have to make the cassette yourself. Regardless of whether the pencil case is made independently or by professional craftsmen, installing such a door system is not an easy task: a novice home craftsman will not be able to complete it properly.

A distinctive feature of this door system is that the door slides into the wall, or, more precisely, into the built-in pencil case. Such a sash does not take up useful space, since open form she hides in a special niche. And when closed, the canvas blocks the doorway, protecting the room from unwanted sounds, all kinds of odors, and also provides adequate protection from prying eyes.

The pencil case door has a huge number of advantages, here are some of them:

  • There is no need to install a door threshold.
  • Saving usable space (the design slides into a cassette).
  • The door does not close from a sudden draft, and besides, it can be left ajar.
  • Thanks to the presence of a floor controller, the canvas glides smoothly and silently.

Unfortunately, such a door system also has its drawbacks. The most significant drawback is the low sound and heat insulation performance of this design. And besides, without the appropriate knowledge and experience in performing such work, it is quite difficult to cope with the installation of this structure.

Types of cabinet doors

Sliding doors of this type usually consist of a frame, a leaf, guide mechanisms, handles, and a pencil case. Such designs may differ from each other in the number of canvases and cassette design.

The following types of sliding structures are distinguished:

  1. Single-leaf blocks.
This door system is used when the doorway is small (the width of such an opening is usually less than a meter). A single-leaf door frame is attached to the ceiling or wall; in this case, installation of a frame is not required.
  2. Double-leaf structures.
Installation of such doors is recommended in wide doorways. In this case, two cassettes are installed (one canister for each door), and they are connected to each other by a guide.

As for the structure of the niche, it design features depend on the wall to which the cassette will be attached. So, for example, if the wall is not load-bearing, it can be dismantled and in place of the old one, a partition with a niche can be erected, the dimensions of which will correspond to the dimensions of the canvas. Such a partition is called a false wall, and it will serve as a pencil case for a sliding door. In this case, it is possible to preserve the usable area of the room, and the thickness of the wall remains unchanged.

If the wall is load-bearing, a frame is attached to it, which is sheathed with plasterboard. And the structure is puttyed on top and covered with wallpaper or painted.

Self-made or ready-to-install pencil cases sliding systems installed only after final leveling floor, that is, when the level of the finished floor is established (including the thickness of the substrate, as well as the floor covering).

Installation of the door system is carried out as follows:

  1. Measurements are taken.
For these purposes, the parameters of the door leaf are measured and these dimensions are transferred to the guides. The length of the guide should be equal to twice the width of the sash.
  2. Mark the profile and cut out these structural elements.
When erecting a false wall, two rows of metal profiles will be required. If you are making an overlay on an existing wall, it is quite enough to assemble one row of metal profiles. In both the first and second cases, the profiles are fastened to the floor, ceiling and wall.
  3. In order for the canvas to slide smoothly and silently, when attaching the frame to the floor and ceiling, a technical plug or rubber layer should be placed between these elements.
  4. Install the sliding mechanism and hang the door leaf.
The leaf must be installed in such a way that the gap between the floor and the door is no more than 5 mm (in this case, the soundproofing properties of the door block will increase). At the same stage, the door travel is adjusted: it will not be possible to perform this operation after completing the installation work (unless you have to disassemble the “wall”).
  5. Cover the frame with plasterboard.
They plaster and finish it (the decor should be made to match the wall framing the doorway).

It is necessary to take into account that the niche should be 2 cm wider than the door leaf. The width of the niche is calculated taking into account the width of the sash: in practice, the depth of the niche is 4-8 cm.

The pencil case door (provided that its installation is done correctly) will last quite a long time. The smoothness of the door movement is ensured by a roller mechanism. It should be noted that various models mechanisms differ in their load capacity, therefore, before choosing one or another mechanism, you need to find out what the mass of the sash is (this will ensure long-term operation door design).

In turn, the roller mechanism is equipped with several adjustment screws, with which you can adjust the vertical position of the web (up to 2 cm). So, for example, if the pencil case door was installed before completing finishing floor, due to a decrease in the height of the doorway, the leaf will be located too low (in this case, to adjust the position, loosen or tighten the adjusting screws).

If, after such an adjustment, it is not possible to solve this problem, the sash will need to be sawed from the top or bottom (but you need to file no more than 15 mm). If the gap is too large (if after adjustment it was not possible to correct the situation), you need to fix a small block at the bottom or top of the leaf and tint this part of the sash to match the door. Much the situation is more complicated works with glass door. If the dimensions of the canvas do not correspond to the doorway, the niche will have to be altered to fit the dimensions of the door.

When a metal profile that is too thin (up to 0.5 mm thick) is used to create a frame, bars will be needed to strengthen it. If such a structure is not strengthened, the partition will vibrate during movement of the web, and in addition, over time, the guide will sag.

To prevent distortions from occurring, during installation of the door structure it is recommended to temporarily secure the opening with a spacer tie. If desired, you can make such a spacer yourself: for this you will need a metal profile or a wooden block.

In addition, it is extremely important to correctly calculate the width of the pencil case. If the cassette is too narrow, the leaf will constantly cling to the door frame. And if the pencil case is too wide, the soundproofing properties of the door block significantly deteriorate, and the appearance of such a design leaves much to be desired.

Moreover, when installing a sliding door that goes into the wall, you should worry in advance about attaching special fittings to the door leaf, which would prevent the door from going completely into the niche. Essentially, such fittings (usually a special door handle) is a kind of door stop.

Sliding type design – great solution for a small room. It looks stylish: such a door system will easily fit into any interior. The main thing is to install it correctly and use the door carefully; only if these conditions are met will the door block last for many years.
