Built-in corner wardrobe in the toilet. A shelf, shelving or cabinet above the toilet: the perfect storage solution

The toilet is the most important "room" in any apartment. When arranging it, many use standard repair schemes: tiling, installing a toilet and installing the necessary accessories on the wall. It should be noted that this room is often a small storage room for various household chemicals and other necessary things. For these purposes, usually many housewives use a plumbing closet. It contains, as a rule, the management of the entire water system of the apartment, and it is located immediately in the wall behind the toilet. It is quite problematic to choose furniture for the toilet, therefore the simplest and most convenient option is to install a plumbing cabinet on your own.

Tools and materials

Before embarking on the implementation of design ideas regarding the arrangement of a plumbing cabinet, it is necessary to prepare special tools and materials. So, you will need:

Required set of tools

  • electric drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • hydro level;
  • roulette;
  • pencil or pen;
  • self-tapping screws.

Design options

Plastic or metal hatch. A common option that is suitable for budget renovations. With such a hatch, you are unlikely to be able to make a toilet in the original design style. But despite its modest appearance, it is very practical, easy and quick to assemble. Meanwhile, if, then the room will have high humidity, thus, the hatch must be resistant to temperature extremes.

Hidden sanitary hatches under the tiles

Invisible hatch. Used for tiles or painting. These designs are thought out to the smallest detail. They are tightly closed and provide quick access to water meters and other communications. After installation, the hatch becomes completely inconspicuous, since the outline of the cover coincides with the seams of the tile. Invisible hatches can be decorated not only with tiles, but also with other materials. For example, marble, mirrors, artificial or natural stone.

The mechanism of its opening is a pressing movement. The hatch is installed simultaneously with the installation of the walls of the plumbing cabinet, and then it, along with the rest of the walls, is tiled. The result is a very interesting option. This is a favorite way of decorating toilet walls for many designers.

Attention! The installation work of the invisible hatch is quite serious, so it is better if the installation is done by professionals.

Roller shutters. A quick and inexpensive option on how to refine a plumbing cabinet, etc. It is very easy to use. It is enough to raise or lower the structure, depending on the mechanism used. In addition, you can get to communications at any time if necessary. Roller shutters are a great way to keep an already small space. The cost of the material is higher than that of the hatches, but the plumbing cabinet also wins in appearance.

Roller shutters

It should be noted that the choice of models and colors of roller shutters is varied. If desired, you can even find design options, but their price will be much higher. In plumbing shutters, two control mechanisms are used: a spring-inertial and a tape drive. Installation of the device is carried out in the opening of the plumbing cabinet.

Advice. Use roller shutters in which the box is invisible, that is, hidden on the inside of the plumbing cabinet. This will make your roller shutters look perfect.

Doors. A classic option that surprises with its variety from the choice of materials to the configuration of the doors. Doors made of natural wood are durable and look solid, but their price is quite high. Therefore, many are considering other options. For example, doors made of chipboard, MDF and laminate. They are much cheaper and easier to care for.

Frosted glass doors for sanitary cabinet

Plastic is a truly versatile material. Easy to clean, quick and easy to install, but also looks cheap. Another option is glass doors, their lack of fragility. Nevertheless, glass looks aesthetically pleasing and original. Mirrored doors are a whole design technique. With their help, you can visually enlarge even a small room. Meanwhile, the mirrors are easy to clean and look very unusual.

By type, doors can be hinged, sliding and accordion. They are usually hinged structures and hinged.

MDF doors

Lathing door. Simple and convenient design with low cost. Perfect for any sanitary cabinet. You must first make measurements and purchase a suitable model. Or adjust the dimensions of the cabinet to the lathing. These doors are made of wood or PVC. They are very convenient to mount, but preparation of the frame unit, fastening of hinges and a lock will be required. Wooden doors can be varnished or stained; such manipulations are not necessary for plastic models. Due to the structure of the lathing, there will always be good ventilation inside the plumbing cabinet, but, unfortunately, the sound insulation will be much worse.

A sanitary wardrobe has recently turned from an inconspicuous attribute of a toilet into a separate decor option. It not only hides engineering communications from prying eyes and is a place for storing household items, but plays an important role in the interior of the toilet.

Wooden lathing

There are a lot of options for arranging it. A simple hatch is suitable for cosmetic repairs. If you have conceived a grandiose alteration, then a plastic or metal hatch against this background will look out of place. The invisible hatch is a popular way to decorate the plumbing closet behind the toilet. Roller shutters are an original version that can open and close special shutters using a remote control or manually. Wooden doors are a classic in toilet renovation. They are not only environmentally friendly, but also very aesthetic. Also, doors can be made of chipboard, MDF or mirrors. Battens are also a convenient and easy way to decorate a closet in a toilet. Which option to choose, everyone will decide independently, based on the budget and design ideas.

In the toilet behind the toilet there are plumbing pipes, valves, meters, filters, a boiler or instantaneous water heater. To hide them and protect them from accidental mechanical damage, a plumbing cabinet is installed. Sometimes inside it there is a place for storing household chemicals, hygiene products. It is difficult to find a ready-made version of the required size and configuration. Most likely, the cabinet will have to be ordered or made by yourself.

Important! When choosing between a plumbing hatch and a wardrobe, it is wiser to give preference to the latter. If the pipe breaks through, then the wall with the hatch will have to be disassembled, which is easy to avoid by installing a cabinet.

Types of plumbing cabinet door configurations

The main purpose of a plumbing cabinet is to hide pipes. Its doors should open easily without touching the toilet or heated towel rail on the wall, provide quick and unhindered access to pipes and valves. There are several options for achieving these goals. The most common:

  • wardrobe with a conventional hinged door;
  • lathing door;
  • hidden door (invisible);
  • plumbing blinds.

Hinged door materials

Materials for finishing a bathroom, including the manufacture of a sanitary cabinet door, must, first of all, be resistant to moisture and household chemicals. These characteristics correspond to:

  1. Solid polyvinyl chloride (plastic). The structure of the material provides it with low weight, strength, rigidity, and a smooth surface. It does not contain harmful ingredients. PVC plastic can be cut, including along a curve, sawn, drilled, glued, fastened with screws using ordinary wood and metal tools. Another advantage is a high degree of sound and heat insulation, which is important given the proximity of pipes.
  2. Glass in an aluminum profile. Such doors are lightweight, durable, environmentally friendly, easy to use, and do not corrode. Using an aluminum frame, you can create a glass product of any configuration and complexity. Glass structures with an aluminum profile have high performance in sound and heat insulation, they are airtight and fireproof.
  1. Moisture resistant plywood. It is a rigid board made up of wood veneer sheets held together. Plywood is lightweight, durable, easy to handle and install. For the decoration of residential premises, it is recommended to choose a 15 mm thick slab of the FK brand. Other brands contain harmful substances. Moisture-resistant plywood is resistant to weak acids, alkalis and alcohol. Since its surface is not perfectly smooth, varnish must be applied for finishing after sanding.

Less suitable for the manufacture of doors in the toilet behind the toilet options:

  • tree.

These materials are used when the appearance of the product is of paramount importance to the owners of the premises, and not durability. On sale there are chipboard and MDF boards with impregnation, which increases their moisture resistance. Products made from such a plate will last longer. Maple, larch, alder or other wood species that endure constant exposure to moisture are suitable for making a wooden door in a toilet. The wood must be treated with a composition from moisture and decay, and then varnished. This also helps to increase the durability of the product. The installed door can be decorated with an insert made of plastic, natural stone, drawing, carving, etc.

To prevent the growth of mold, good ventilation must be maintained inside the piping cabinet. To do this, you can install a crate door made of wood or other material.

Furniture blinds

Another option for achieving the same result is a sanitary closet in the toilet with furniture roller shutters. Blinds are relatively expensive, but they are one of the most convenient and visually appealing ways to hide water pipes. Plumbing shutters can be made of aluminum, plastic or wood. They can be painted in any color, drawing or photo-printing. Plastic tolerates high humidity and contact with aggressive household chemicals better than other materials. Another advantage of blinds is the ability to be controlled from the remote control, which ensures hygiene. Horizontal and vertical sanitary blinds can be ordered according to your size.

The best option for finishing the plumbing cabinet door and masking pipes is to install a canvas for painting. This sash can be painted to match the color of the walls or tiled. If you use hidden hinges, then the door located in the toilet behind the toilet becomes almost invisible. This is a special type of hinge that is mounted in special grooves on the sash and door frame. When closed, they are not visible from the outside.

To open the sash, hidden handles are installed, recessed into the canvas. You can also use the Push-to-open mechanism to open the invisible door. The sash swings open when you press it, without any handle.

Installing a hidden door will require skills in performing such work, so it is better to entrust the installation to professionals.

Tools and additional materials

To make your own toilet door, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • roulette;
  • puncher;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • jigsaw or circular saw;
  • level;
  • bars for the box;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • loops;
  • pens.

Important! When choosing hinges, keep in mind that such a door opens often, so you should not skimp on quality.

Operating procedure

The procedure for making the door behind the toilet yourself:

  1. Think over the dimensions of the door, the version and draw up a sketch. If the toilet is at some distance from the pipes, then you can make the flap almost to the floor. If it stands close to the communications, then the cabinet should start right above the tank so that when the door is opened it does not touch it.
  2. Install a metal profile frame in the niche behind the toilet, leaving a gap for the cabinet of the calculated size. Sheathe the frame with plasterboard. To decorate a niche, it is better with the same material as the walls in the toilet.
  3. Make a box from polished and treated with an anti-mold composition. Its size should be such that it is possible to freely insert the structure into the opening without leaving visible gaps. If you have space and desire, you can install chipboard shelves behind the doors by cutting holes for pipes in them. The option for manufacturing shelves is a profile base sheathed with plasterboard. Drywall can be painted, wallpapered or remnants of tiles.
  1. Insert the box into the gap left under it. Attach it to the walls with self-tapping screws. Check the horizontal level of the structure.
  2. Cut out blanks for doors from plywood, PVC plastic, wood, chipboard or MDF. It is more convenient if there are two of them. But if the cabinet turns out to be narrow due to the size of the niche for pipes, then one door will be the best option. For trimming, it is better to use a circular saw, not a jigsaw, otherwise it is difficult to get products with even edges. The ends of the chipboard door must be pasted over with an edge (for this you need a building hair dryer or an ordinary iron). The ends of the sash made of MDF can be painted or also closed with an edge. Wooden ends - sanded with sandpaper. The size of the door must be such that there are 3 mm gaps between it and the box on all sides. If there are two flaps, then you need to take into account the same gap between them.
  3. Screw the hinges and the handle to the door.
  4. Attach the sash to the box. Screw the hinges to it. Sand the wooden door again, treat it with moisture and fungus, and varnish.

A plumbing cabinet is a convenient way to decorate a niche with pipes in a toilet beautifully and intelligently. The best option is to order a ready-made built-in wardrobe or sanitary blinds. But if financial capabilities are limited, you can make and install such a structure yourself.

Specialization: master for interior and exterior decoration (plaster, putty, tile, drywall, lining, laminate and so on). In addition, plumbing, heating, electrical, conventional cladding and balcony extensions. That is, repairs in an apartment or house were done on a turnkey basis with all the necessary types of work.

In most repairs, you will need doors to the closet in the toilet to hide the pipes and water meter. Here you can go in two ways, the first method is to buy such doors from glass, plastic or wood, and the second is to make them from tiles. But I want to talk about all this in more detail and offer a video in this article.

Making a door

From ceramic tiles

1 - frame slats; 2 - water supply; 3 - sewerage; 4 - water meter

To make a toilet hatch for plumbing from ceramic tiles, you will need:

  • design a box, the internal structure of which is shown in the diagram above. In this case, your goal will be a hole through which the water meter will be clearly visible, and there will also be access to the main taps;
  • if this is a niche, then your goal will be to create a false wall, and if there is no niche and the pipes pass on top, then you will have to make a box;
  • for a false wall in a niche, I always use wooden slats 50 × 50 mm - this is much more convenient than working with metal profiles;
  • in the diagram, you see that the slats represent the crate, but you need to try to make sure that the screwed moisture-resistant drywall (GKLV) turns out flush with the wall;

If you have such a structure will not occupy the entire wall, then it is better for you to plaster first in order to leave the sheet flush with the plaster.

  • if the plumbing doors will be on the box, then you do not need to fit the drywall flush with any wall. The main thing here is a sufficiently spacious hatch so that you have the opportunity to freely reach the crane.

In this situation (with a box or a false wall), the instruction allows you to go in two ways:

  1. you can make, for example, plastic cabinet doors in a toilet with a metal box, as shown in the top photo. But you can hardly glue the tiles on them - this turns out to be too massive a structure;
  2. the second option is when the hatch is made exactly to the size of the tile, for example, 200 × 300 mm, and the tile itself is already held in place by magnets. These special magnets are sold in a set of 4 and their price is quite affordable. Personally, I prefer this method of fastening.

You can attach a furniture handle to the removable tile, or you can not screw anything there at all - it is easy to remove it by prying it with your nails.

Ordinary doors

The situation will look somewhat different if you want to have a large cabinet where you can put all the detergents, as well as bowls and buckets. Here you cannot get by with an ordinary hatch, and you can purchase, for example, louvered doors in the toilet, which will start from the floor.

Here you should take into account that the bathroom belongs to rooms with high humidity, therefore, if the doors are made of wood, then they should be protected with several layers of varnish.

If you wish, you can even independently make a canvas from moisture-resistant plywood or from OSB - the biggest difficulty is assembling and installing the box, which should be even diagonally. During my practice, I had to deal with real sandwiches - drywall was screwed onto a plywood sheet, and tiles were glued onto it - you can imagine a lot of such a structure!

I am not a supporter of such heavy doors, besides, you will need more powerful awnings, which also need to be fixed on something.

But our bathrooms, in general, are not so large and that does not allow us to make a closet from the floor itself - a toilet bowl will interfere with this (imagine such a device in a toilet 75-80 cm wide!). Therefore, you can purchase the same rack and pinion facade from the store as in the photo above and install it slightly higher than the toilet cistern. The flaps will open over the tank, therefore, they will not interfere with you in any way.

For an 80-centimeter-wide toilet, flaps with a total width of 40-50 cm will be quite enough - such doors look quite impressive not only in the toilet, but also in the bathroom. If you wish, you can choose the size that suits you best - there are always a variety of proposals on the construction market. But again, you need to be very careful about the box - then the whole composition will look like a single whole.

Since there is often not enough space in it, this can be corrected at least visually, for example, a shallow wall cabinet with mirrored doors. Mirrors will reflect all walls and all objects in the room, this creates the illusion of spaciousness. Of course, in such cases, the wall decoration should not be too dark.

Alternatively, you can use roller shutters, which are made of plastic and metal, but the choice in size here, one might say, is simply huge. This is a fairly modern design solution and you can easily install them over the toilet with your own hands, without resorting to the paid help of specialists.

Conclusion

I did not mention here this type of barriers as curtains, although I did this not out of forgetfulness, but on my personal conviction that such a device is somehow incompatible with sanitary facilities. Firstly, they are fabric and dampness will deteriorate, and, secondly, for such things you need something more rigid and substantial. Of course, opinions vary, so I invite you to speak up and share your ideas in the comments.

Door options

For sanitary cabinet there are plenty of them. Below are the most popular ones.

Important! When creating doors for sanitary cabinets, you can use your imagination. The main thing is that the finished version fits harmoniously into the style of the room.

How to do it yourself

If not the opportunity to purchase a wardrobe, then you can make it yourself. We offer to build a rack behind the toilet and allow you to place some household items.

He will look simple: two walls, a shelf and doors. First, the dimensions, location and distance between the shelves are determined.

As soon as measurements are taken and building materials are purchased, you can start. Necessarily needed cover the toilet with oilcloth, sink and other furniture in the room, so that nothing is damaged in the process.

Stages making a sanitary cabinet:

  1. A base is created from a bar.
  2. The markup is being done using a hydro level.
  3. By markup holes are made where the parts are fixed with self-tapping screws.
  4. Chopped bars are attached(they will also serve as the basis for the finished product).
  5. To the bars corners are attached or slats with self-tapping screws.
  6. The opening is measured and created markings for loops... All of the above models can act as doors. They are purchased in advance. To simplify the task, you can install classic doors with piano hinges.
  7. Screwed on handles or lock... Towel hooks can be fitted on request.
  8. Wooden cabinet elements treated with a water-repellent agent.

the main task- choose the right moisture-resistant building materials, determine the size and location of the future product. It is also important to have access to the meters. To do this, during self-production and installation, it is necessary to make a hole in the drywall for passing pipes.

Useful video: a beautiful closet in the toilet

It's obvious that sanitary cabinet in the toilet- a useful and convenient subject. It covers the rough, unaesthetic pipes, while at the same time opens up additional space in the form of shelves where you can store toilet paper, cleaning and detergents, etc.
