When attaching material using a frame, it is very important to mount it correctly.

  • The guides attached to the walls must be strictly vertical, as well as the intermediate racks.
  • The distance between the centers of the posts should be 600 mm, i.e. such that the joint of the sheets falls on the profile.
  • To strengthen the structure, you can reduce the size to 400 mm.
  • If it is necessary to join sheets vertically, install a horizontal profile to tie 2 sheets together.
  • Drywall is attached to a metal frame with black metal screws, 25-32 mm long, and to a wooden frame - with wood screws of the same length.
  • To improve the strength and insulating properties, lining with sheets in 2 layers is possible. In this case, the sheets are sewn in checkerboard pattern.

How to sew drywall without frame

GCR without using a frame can be fixed with special glue or mechanically, using dowels and self-tapping screws. It is possible to combine these 2 methods by first securing the sheets to adhesive composition, and after it dries - onto the screws. At the same time, it is important to fasten the drywall with hardware in those places where the glue is applied, and not between them, because the coating can be deformed and even broken.

How to choose fasteners for brick, concrete and wooden walls


To attach hangers and guides to the walls, you may need various hardware, depending on the material of the walls. Frame elements are attached to wooden walls with wood screws. For installation on brick or concrete surfaces You need to use dowels with self-tapping screws or dowel nails. The use of dowel-nails increases the speed of work, but they are more difficult to dismantle if necessary to remake the structure

How to mount and lay the profile correctly

After installing the guides around the perimeter, mark the location of the rack profiles. Usually they are placed at a distance of 600 mm between centers, so that the vertical joints of the sheets fall exactly in the middle of the profile. The rack profile is set vertically and attached to the guides with “bugs” or using a cutter, then attached to the hangers, constantly checking the verticality using a level. When all the profiles are secured, you should check the plane using a rule, a long level or a thread. Deviations from the plane of more than 2 mm should be corrected.

At the places where the sheets meet in height, additional horizontal profiles are installed. It is recommended to arrange such joints at the bottom of the wall.

How to screw gypsum board sheets to a frame: installing drywall on walls


Plasterboard sheets are secured using metal screws 25 mm long. The sheet is installed in place, secured to 1 screw, then adjusted to the level and secured to the rest. The fastening pitch should be approximately 200 mm or more often. The hardware is twisted so that the head is flush with the surface of the sheet without breaking through the paper.

The sheet must be fastened in one direction, for example, from left to right, from bottom to top. If you fasten the sheet in different corners, it may bend during further fastening.

First, whole sheets are attached, then parts are cut to size and the remaining parts of the wall are covered. The edges of the cut are processed with a drywall plane.

Before sewing up the wall with sheets, you can lay sound and thermal insulation materials, wiring.

Grouting seams and dowel holes: how to finish them

Seams with a factory chamfer on the wall are taped with sickle tape or paper tape for joints. Seams without chamfer are cut using construction knife. The surface is primed. Seams and recesses from self-tapping screws are puttied with gypsum-based putty mixtures. As a rule, the packaging of the material indicates whether it is suitable for sealing gypsum board joints or not.

The most convenient way to fasten the sheets is to support them with a special stand, which you can purchase in a store or make yourself from a block or profile in the shape of the letter “T”.   4. Now, along the resulting lines, you should mark the places where the suspensions are attached. To do this, additional horizontal markings are made every 50 cm.

  • Now the PP profiles are cut to the required sizes and fixed into the guides. They are fixed in hangers. It should be remembered that profiles tend to sag slightly. Therefore, it is necessary to align them regularly using the rule;
  • Now, by attaching the jumpers, the necessary strength of the resulting frame is created. To do this, the transverse jumpers are cut together and arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

This method of fastening them allows you to obtain the most durable and flat surface.

Professionals give good advice: in order for the resulting surface of the frame to be smooth, you should initially install corner guides and connect them all in pairs using a cord. This will result in straight lines along which, like beacons, you can attach the remaining profiles.

This algorithm looks like this:

  • several points are applied to the surface of the sheet in accordance with the dimensions required for a separate section of the wall;
  • points are connected by straight lines using a rule;
  • when using a mounting knife, a part of the sheet of the required size is cut;
  • Now the sheet is folded and the cardboard is cut along the fold line.

The resulting sheets are fixed to the required place on the wall using self-tapping screws. This process simple, does not require special skills and abilities. However, you should remember some points that will allow you to get the most even surface of the sheathed wall:

  • The edges of the drywall should be exactly on the center line of the profiles. This will make the sheathing as neat as possible, since it is the overhanging edges that begin to crack and crumble over time;
  • location of screws - step of at least 25 cm;
  • The caps of the screws should be carefully “sunk”. This will allow further processing the resulting surface with the highest quality. After all, protruding caps will interfere with further finishing of walls that were covered with plasterboard.

Plasterboard lathing is performed on all types of floors. However, when finishing frame buildings with this material, you can do without lathing. In this case, sheets of material are attached directly to the walls of the building. After installing the plasterboard sheets to the frame, it is rough finished.

First, a chamfer is cut from sheets of material. Its width should be about 5 mm. If the corners of the sheets are rounded, then there is no need to chamfer. Serpyanka is glued to the joints. Using a primer and a paint roller, the joints are processed to level the surface.

  1. Installation of sheets using self-tapping screws on a frame made of a metal profile or wooden beam. This method is chosen in cases where the wall requires additional thermal or sound insulation, and the insulating material is installed precisely in frame structure, or if the wall has very large distortions that are difficult to level with plaster layers.
  2. Fixing sheets to the wall using self-tapping screws and polyurethane foam or with an adhesive composition made on a gypsum basis. Self-tapping screws and foam for fixing drywall are used if you need to sheathe not only wooden wall, but also surfaces made from other materials that require correction. Adhesive gypsum composition is more often used for leveling concrete or brick wall. However, it should immediately be noted that the frameless method of attaching drywall should only be used when the walls have a height not exceeding 3000 mm.

  1. Ordinary drywall (GKL or, according to the Knauf proprietary classification - GSP-A) is used for rooms with normal humidity.

  3. The next step is to draw a knife along the drawn line, also along the ruler, which should cut top layer cardboard
  4. The sheet is moved to the edge of a hard surface and laid on it along the cut line.
  5. Then, pressure is applied to the edge of the drywall that extends beyond the base, which will cause the sheet to break along the cut line.
  6. The last step is cutting the cardboard on the other side of the sheet.

Drywall is easy to use, inexpensive, convenient and practical material for leveling curved walls, making light partitions from it, suspended ceilings, production of complex cornices and false panels. At self-finishing plasterboard, the sheets are glued to the facing surfaces with gypsum mastics, or attached to the sheathing (wooden or metal frame) with self-tapping screws.

  • Ordinary (gypsum plasterboard). It is used for installation of walls, partitions, ceilings, niches, slopes, boxes.
  • Moisture-resistant (GKV, GVL, GKLV, GVLV). Used in rooms with high humidity.
  • With increased resistance to impact open flame(GKLO). Suitable for rooms with high requirements to fire resistance.
  • Moisture-resistant with increased resistance to open flames (GKLVO). They simultaneously have the properties of moisture-resistant and fire-resistant sheets.

Typically the sheets are 2,500 mm long and 1,200 mm wide. Thickness from 6.5 to 12.5 mm, depending on the purpose of the sheets.

Support frame elements

In the manufacture of frames for fastening drywall, we use various materials. Basically, when assembling frames, metal profiles made of galvanized steel are used.

Metal profiles are divided into:

  • Guide profile (PN) - used as a guide when installing rack profiles.

  • Rack profile (PS) is the main element for constructing a frame to which plasterboard sheets are attached.

  • Ceiling profile (PP) - designed for mounting a frame when installing suspended ceilings.

Wall covering

The internal walls of the premises are lined with plasterboard slabs in order to avoid the need for plastering. This finishing method refers to dry methods. Plasterboard sheets make the walls even, making it possible to hang wallpaper and paint.

Plasterboard sheets are suitable for cladding brick, concrete and wooden surfaces. You can attach the sheets using special mastics, adhesives and self-tapping screws to a metal and wooden frame.

Surface preparation

This method allows you to cover the walls with plasterboard yourself and is suitable if the load-bearing frame takes up a lot of space and the height of the rooms does not exceed the height of the plasterboard sheet, since with this method the creation of horizontal joints is unacceptable.

To begin with, the surface is cleaned, all uneven areas on the wall are removed, then markings are applied to the wall where the plasterboard panels will be installed. Also, before preparing, you must complete everything electrical installation work. The room in which work is carried out must first be dried.

Walls are checked by hanging in horizontal and vertical planes, with the further installation of beacons and marks. Beacons (marks) are guides made of gypsum mortar, applied to the wall surface in one plane.

Gluing plasterboard sheets

There are two ways to glue drywall with your own hands. In the first method, a whole sheet of drywall is placed in the corner of the room. In this case, a sheet placed at the corner of the adjacent wall will form a husk with its edge with the adjacent edge of the first sheet. With the second method, on the sheet lengthwise center line cut out a groove and bend it at an angle of 90°.
