How to make a bas-relief from decorative plaster with your own hands? Bas-relief on the wall - the best ideas for design and modern sculpture (115 photos).

The decoration of the walls, made in a single-color version, very quickly becomes boring, but the original execution, beautiful - pleases and amazes.

Bas-reliefs are rightfully recognized as the most spectacular way of decorating. At correct location on wall surfaces, they look very elegant and creative, while perfectly harmonizing with almost any design.

To do this, you need to choose the appropriate pattern and the color scheme that matches the surroundings.

Create such wall decorations it’s not difficult on your own, you just need to make or buy special stencils. In this regard, the bas-relief can have a significant advantage - the resulting design is absolutely unique. It is hardly possible to meet a similar decor anywhere.

Bas-relief on the wall - what is it?

Many centuries ago, people actively decorated the walls of their houses with all kinds of decorations. It could be stone or wood carving, original plasters, etc. However, among them, the bas-relief has always been positioned as the most refined and status.

The bas-relief is a volumetric decorative element protruding above the surface of the wall. It can be figures of people or animals, plants, patterns, household items, mythical creatures and much more. Often there are family coats of arms or single paintings. Such a wide variety of options allows you to implement the most intricate stylistic ideas, decorating the room in any color scheme.

To translate such projects into reality, special template forms made of transparent polymer are used. Such stencils, after preliminary planning of the future interior, can be made with your own hands, ordered in a special workshop or bought ready-made matrices. The last option is the worst, because the models are not unique and the choice is limited.

The purpose of the matrix, in in general terms, consists in applying protruding patterns to the prepared wall surface in the form of an additional plaster layer.

Attention! When a curly element protrudes above the total surface for more than 1/2 of its volume, then this is a high relief (high relief), and if less - a bas-relief!

The technique of self-manufacturing a matrix for a bas-relief

You don't need to take any extra steps. The following set of materials should be prepared:

- sketch drawing (patterns, lines, geometric figures etc.);

- thin sheets of durable plastic. Each stencil is used once, so a sufficient number of PVC sheets should be in store;

- stationery tape;

- graphite pencil, permanent marker.

After preparation, manipulations should be performed in full accordance with step by step instructions:

1. The choice of a finished ornament or its independent outline. Can pick up interesting options on thematic sites or in special albums.

2. Preparation of material for the stencil. Here, you need to clean the plastic sheet from packaging or contamination, if any. Additionally, it is recommended to degrease its surfaces.

Advice! The best blanks for flares are sheets of PVC plastic (thickness 0.14-0.17 mm) for brochure covers. This material is flexible, very strong and transparent, and last property will greatly facilitate the transfer of the picture from the stencil-sketch!

3. Stencil cutting. The edges on the cuts should be even and clear, burrs or cuts should not be allowed to form - they can ruin the future stencil, which will affect the final result in the form of irregularities.

4. Drawing a picture on plastic. This can be done with several simple ways:

- using carbon paper when the planned ornament is printed on thin paper;

- stroke the contours of the pattern placed under the sheet transparent plastic;

- accurate delineation of shapes cut out of thick cardboard.

Clue! To avoid displacement, it is necessary to securely fasten the sheet with the main pattern with adhesive tape to the surface of the plastic sheet!

Creation of a bas-relief

1. Preparation

Orientation markings are drawn on the wall, necessary for symmetrical and even application decorative details.

It is advisable to make markings according to existing landmarks (corners, joints, edges of openings, etc.), since they are very often not perfectly even. If you place the bas-reliefs on the marks made using the mounting level, they will ideally “lie” on the walls perfectly, and this will visually show the “curvature” of the walls, openings or corners of the room.

2. Fixing the stencil

In order for the bas-relief to turn out to be of high quality, it is necessary to place each template evenly on the wall. There are several ways to do this:

- use adhesive compositions, however, they often leave absorbed spots and surface irregularities, which then additionally need to be removed;

- apply double sided tape or paint mesh - they are easy to use and can be easily removed from the plaster.

As a result, the fixative is applied to the stencil no closer than 4.0 mm to the edge of the cut ornament. Carefully, without displacement, the matrix should be attached to the wall.

3. Priming the wall

This step is optional, however, it will only improve the adhesion of the bas-reliefs to the surface to be decorated. The technology of coating a wall section with a primer solution for decoration does not differ from similar preparation of walls before painting or wallpapering.

After each priming (optimally 2 coats) sufficient drying time should follow.

4. Drawing a bas-relief

Spectacular, voluminous drawings will be obtained only from a fine-grained putty mixture. In its ready-to-use form, it is a homogeneous, viscous, pasty mass.

Putty material can be purchased ready-made or as a dry mix for self-dilution (instructions with a recipe are usually attached).

In several layers, putty is applied to the stencil (cut out area), evenly covering it, and each new layer must be firmly compacted.

5. Removing the template film

It is possible to start removing the matrix only after the complete drying and hardening of the plaster composition. There should not be any difficulties during removal - firmly grasping the edge of the stencil, the sheet is separated from the wall without haste with a smooth peeling motion.

No need to be upset if the edges of the pattern turned out to be imperfectly even. Anyway, the bas-relief will be subjected to finishing, after which the defects will be smoothed out with sandpaper.

6. Decoration of bas-reliefs

- correct the created elements with a finely abrasive sandpaper and leave until the final painting of the walls. After its implementation, the wall decor will be solid;

- decorate bas-reliefs according to a separately conceived plan.

The first option is simpler and lower cost, and therefore is often used. When a unique, expensive, creative interior is created, the renovation continues according to the second, long-term scenario. To do this, you need to save the stencils (only 3-4 sheets are possible) and clean them from plaster contamination. After the general painting of the walls and their complete drying, a clean stencil is taken and superimposed on the bas-relief with one hand, and with the second, the decorative element is painted with prepared and diluted paints.

Thus, each detail is painted individually. At the same time, the stencil is needed to prevent the ingress of dyes onto the finished wall surface.

Important! Using different colors and combinations of shades, you can get amazing, spectacular results, for example, decorate the edges of the bas-reliefs with gold or mother-of-pearl paint!

Conclusion

Despite the rather complex creation of a bas-relief design (one, several or many elements), this option decorative finishes quite possible to do it yourself. This design will undoubtedly give the home an exclusive charm, creativity and will delight the owner, while pleasantly surprising all the guests!

Let's say right away: step by step technologies and a complete list of all components will be listed below, in the appropriate section.

First, we list only the basic things you need to have:

  • Alabaster;
  • PVA glue;
  • Finishing putty;
  • Water.

This is the basis of the basics, but the auxiliary materials already depend on the type of drawings, which we will deal with here and now.

The most solid bas-reliefs come out of the alabaster mass, poured into molds.

Depending on the type of the latter, you can get absolutely any configuration of a convex pattern: fruits, flowers, shells, and even classic capitals.

The main thing here is just to find the right form, and the rest is just trifles. Casting plaster is easy..

Here are some of the decor elements that can be done in an hour. This is a marine theme, and you are free to choose whatever you like.

These shells are molded with regular baby toys for sand and attached to drywall sheets. And the framing of the frame is made of ready-made foam baguettes, which are usually attached to the junction of the ceiling and wall.

Like, nothing complicated. Full of gypsum construction stores. But where to get a good form?

Here you will have to disappoint, the choice is not so great: it is not enough to find just a visually suitable sample, you also need the material to withstand the heating of gypsum during solidification.

Yes, yes, it warms up quite strongly and expands! Therefore, molds for making soap, for example, will not work. They just burst and that's it, because they are made of too thin plastic, not of the best quality.

You need something more substantial, such as the same plastic apiaries, and even better - silicone for baking. He is not afraid of any metamorphoses of the material, since it is designed for high heat and stretching.

And most importantly, take out of it ready product much easier than something hard.

We dealt with this type of bas-relief with our own hands superficially, and we will give you a detailed description of the process below, in the corresponding subheading. You will also find a complete list there. necessary materials and fixtures for each type of painting with their own hands.

But in addition to casting, there are other versions.

For example, a bas-relief from ready-made plaster figurines! Such a picture looks extremely expensive, but its final price cannot but rejoice.

Panels with various Greek characters myths, such as Aphrodite or little angels.

If you take these ladies from gypsum, and not marble, then such a purchase will not hit your pocket. But that's not all the options!

You can make a very cute arrangement using ordinary fabric flowers, which are innumerable in gift shops. In addition, cones and other suitable shapes can be used. It will look like this:

A gypsum bas-relief can be made removable, like a regular painting, or it can be monolithic, as one piece with the wall, as you have already seen in the upper picture with shells.

And if you know how to draw, then it will not be difficult for you to make a three-dimensional drawing directly from putty, without using any aids and forms. But for this you need to have an artistic taste and the most basic modeling skills. Here's what might happen:

Or even so, but for this you need to be a master.

Here, in fact, are all the methods available to almost everyone. And now let's get to the specifics and let's finally start doing, not dreaming!

We make a mold for pouring plaster

If for all sorts of different shells, fruits and bugs you can find a shape and it makes no sense to make it, then for some details, such as grapes, it’s easier to make the base yourself than to try to find it.

Of course, they can not be cast, but rolled from putty, but it will look a little worse, since this material is more porous when it dries.

In general, with a certain skill, you can make any shapes you like using ready-made figurines. Bought one, and then poured at least ten! And if you want to give them, if you want to make panels ...

Well, let's get started. If we are talking about casting a grape berry, then you need to first roll it up from a thick putty mass mixed with PVA glue, in the proportion:

  • Finishing putty - 0.5 kg;
  • PVA glue - 1 tablespoon;
  • Water - 100 grams.

Knead a thick mass, pouring water gradually. Since we gave its amount approximately, because it can differ significantly in application with different types putties.

After kneading, blind a grape and put it to dry for about a day. It should not burst, since the mass with the addition of PVA becomes quite resistant to cracking.

By the way, in the same upper picture with shells, you can see the wall below, finished using the technique of decorative strokes. So they need to be made with just such a mixture, based on PVA.

Well, the grape has dried up? Let's make a shape. For this we need:

  • 0.5 liters of silicone;
  • Plywood box;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Brush.

Liquid silicone is sold in hardware stores, and you can pick up any box, you will put a grape in it and fill it with a silicone mixture.

The main thing is that it can be easily disassembled, and then reassembled into self-tapping screws, and cover the holes with a mixture of silicone. This is necessary so that you can then easily, without damaging, pull out the finished form. If a suitable box was not found, then you can assemble it from plywood sheets.

We will show you step-by-step photos using the example of pouring a figurine, and you can already put whatever you want there. It is important to understand the sequence, and that's all. And the amount of silicone can be different. A grape needs 100 grams, and an owl, shown below, is already 1 liter.

So:

And now let's move on to the most interesting, the formation of figurines from alabaster with our own hands.

How to make alabaster mixture for bas-reliefs

If you are using Silicone forms You don't need to lubricate them with anything. But if you pour gypsum into a plastic bead, then you need to thoroughly lubricate it with sunflower oil.

We do the filling mixture like this:

  • 2 parts plaster
  • 1 part water

Pour the powder into the water gradually, stirring constantly, avoiding the formation of lumps.

There is no need to interfere too intensively, there is no point, you will only supersaturate the substance with oxygen and the finished figure may be covered with bubbles.

Then pour it into the selected shape, flush with its edge. And rest for about a day.

In general, gypsum sets much earlier. But the longer the figurine stays in the form, the stronger it will be, and the chance of damaging it when taking it out will be zero.

We mount a bas-relief on the wall

Now the finished composition needs to be fixed on the wall or on a piece of drywall if you want to make a removable bas-relief. In any case, they are attached in the same way. You can attach them with liquid silicone or simple putty.

The main thing here is this: cover up the gaps between the wall (plasterboard) and the figure, so that it comes out as a single conglomerate. You can also do this with putty.

If there are any irregularities, they must be carefully removed with an abrasive tape. And then you cover the finished picture with water-based paint in a couple of layers.

Pure white compositions look best on the same background, this is a classic version. But you can paint in any color you like, but only then, on top of a layer of white paint.

Bas-relief based on poured forms

And here we will list everything that may be needed specifically for this type of panel:

  • alabaster mix
  • Forms
  • Drywall base (if your idea is intended)
  • Putty (or silicone glue)
  • Water based paint

How to make an alabaster mixture, we already wrote above, therefore, we will not repeat ourselves, it’s better to give you some important recommendations related to the process.

If you have come up with any composition, then do not rush to immediately glue the elements on the wall.

It's best to lay them out on the floor first and see if they look good. Indeed, it is not good to remove and glue the workpieces several times, they will get dirty and then more layers of paint will be needed.

In addition to the elements cast in the molds, you can add various materials to your composition. For example, if you are making a picture with shells, then you can stick ordinary rubble on the wall and paint it white. This will add volume and the picture will look much more interesting.

Bas-relief from finished figurines

You will need:

  • picture frame;
  • Profile;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Drywall;
  • putty;
  • silicone adhesive;
  • Statuette;
  • Decorative items to choose from;
  • Water based paint.

Panels with antique figures must be done within some framework. You can't just hang it on the wall, it will look ugly. What can you do?

You can fix a picture frame directly on the wall, level the inside with putty, forming a single whole, then attach a pedestal for the statue (for this it is convenient to use profiles sheathed with drywall), which you also putty.

Then put the figurine on the glue and go through all the cracks again to make the look cast. You can add various elements to the space in the frame: pebbles, shells, columns (you can buy them in the pet supply department, there are many different decorations for aquariums in the form of castles and other beauty that suits the style).

And then just cover everything with paint, including the frame. If necessary, not even two, but three layers. It's nice that this do-it-yourself bas-relief looks just amazing, but in fact, for beginners this is quite a feasible task.

Bas-relief - a picture of putty

You will need:

  • Putty mix on PVA;
  • Water-based paint;
  • Artistic talent.

And here everything is already in your hands, moreover, in the literal sense of the word. There is no special technique that can be given and everyone can do it, even if they don't have the skill.

The only thing we can say is that you need to make a bas-relief from putty with your own hands in stages.

If you immediately put a large piece on the wall, it simply will not hold. The pattern is formed gradually, building up as it dries. And of course, use a PVA-based mixture recipe.

You cover the finished panel with paint and you can invite guests to show off!

Bas-relief of rag flowers

You will need:

  • Fabric flowers or spruce cones
  • Liquid alabaster mixture
  • Silicone adhesive
  • Water based paint

The alabaster mixture needs to be made a little thinner than for pouring the figures. You dip the blanks in it and leave them to dry. When they dry, then dip a second time so that the figure acquires a uniform and monolithic color.

Then you attach them to the wall with glue, and it’s easier to paint them from a spray can, matte paint. Since they are quite fluffy and fiddling with a brush is not very convenient in this case.

Such flowers are not too obliging to adhere to a strictly defined interior style. For example, if you are making Aphrodite, then you need to duplicate the columns or the Greek fresco somewhere.

And in this case, everything will be in harmony: bas-reliefs, any paintings on the walls, any design of kitchen furniture, photos in frames, etc.

In conclusion: how to care for bas-reliefs

No matter how much you interfere with PVA, a home-made bas-relief, sooner or later, begins to lose its appearance. There are gaps between it and the wall and this is normal. You only need to occasionally cover up the cracks and tint these places.

OK it's all over Now! You know how to make a bas-relief from gypsum with your own hands and it's up to you: start acting.

Understand the intricacies of the process, how to make a bas-relief on the wall with your own hands on free space, it is possible by combining knowledge of the basic methods of its manufacture with practical training in applying liquid material and installation of finished panels on the wall. The dimensions of the working surface do not have of great importance - artistic images can be placed in small parts on free for viewing sections of the wall, ceiling, in niches and corners. The advantages of self-execution of this part of the interior is that after a detailed drawing of a standard stencil, a unique pattern is obtained.

Details and differences

Do-it-yourself decorative decoration in the form of a bas-relief on the wall will give the room an artistic volume, an original sophisticated look of the interior. The location, lighting, the chosen color scheme will fill the simplest drawing with individuality and enchant the viewer. That is why this type of registration of private estates is increasingly gaining popularity in comparison with top coats mass production.

Simplicity and style

Creating large and intricately detailed paintings makes beginners insecure about their ability to complete such painstaking work. You need to start mastering the technology with simple elements, and when you get a confident result, increase the scale and fineness of the lines. At creativity with a few simple strokes and a play of shades, you can create a whole picture.

The monumental paintings that amaze the imagination are painstakingly created and brought to a finished look by hand by masters, even if the main components are pre-cast in molds. A novice designer can acquire skills in working with plastic material, using the techniques of a combination of plane level differences and a rough texture of processing, apply the separation of parts that are identical in execution technique by their contrasting coloring. With a peculiar method of counter-relief, images on empty walls fit into modern urban design styles.

Often improvised bas-reliefs are used to decorate individual home furnishings: a fireplace, a column, a beam, a niche or an opening. Placing a convex pattern in an unexpected place enlivens long-familiar walls.

The functions of such a pattern can be not only decorative. The spatial solution allows you to hide the unevenness of one or adjacent surfaces, give an attractive appearance to strict engineering communications, obtain specified visual effects, create a thematic transition between zones and rooms of different style and purpose.

If you show a little imagination using the material at hand, then even for beginners, an impromptu plot on the topic of the environment can serve interesting solution restoration of areas in need of repair.

Combination with various materials

In many cases of making a bas-relief on a wall, painting the resulting surface does not become the main element of decoration. Relief-forming material needs more protection from changes in air humidity, absorption of greasy fumes and dust.

The texture pattern is clearly visible under different angles, changes its appearance with a change in natural light and skillful placement of artificial lighting. By turning on or off point light sources, accentuation or smoothing of the perception of the bas-relief in the interior at the right time is achieved.

The choice of a three-dimensional image on the wall begins with an assessment of its location in terms of area, illumination and functional purpose of the room.

The bas-relief should not be "cramped" between adjacent corners, the distance to opposite wall should allow the viewer to see the whole picture. In narrow spaces, it is permissible to use small parts that, by their placement on the limiting structures, do not create conditions for their mechanical damage or injuries to people passing by.

DIY manufacturing details

The formed desire - to decorate your interior with a unique composition in the free areas of the room, begins to be realized with the choice of a pattern. He will determine the next steps to bring the idea to life. Necessary operations for the bas-relief:

  1. Drawing up sketches of artistic elements. The pattern may consist of repeating identical figures (1 or several types). It is possible to combine many ready-made gypsum panels of different sizes in the allotted area, placing them in a given order. The layout of the general plan is divided into separate sketches of each part, drawn on a scale of 1: 1 for transfer to the surface being designed.
  2. Determine the technological features of the execution (panels, stencil, hand molding). To complete the picture, in any case, it will be necessary to manually finish the seams of the glued parts, draw the features of the stucco molding, clean up the bumps, and give the entire surface a given roughness.
  3. Select the main material that will be used for the work (gypsum, decorative plaster, alabaster, putty). Components for working on the device of bas-reliefs do not belong to cheap varieties of such raw materials - putties, primers, adhesives for installing molded parts must have high quality. The strength of the product must not be compromised by the use of raw materials with questionable characteristics. Execution in color requires the selection of brands of paints, additional colors, varnishes for gloss and protection.
  4. Based on the location of the panel, the purpose of its installation and desired effect, determine the need to install additional lighting sources, the number of points, the work and materials required for this.
  5. Prepare tools and fixtures. They include both a standard set for applying and leveling putty, preparing a mortar, measuring and marking, as well as special tools that create volumetric elements from dense building masses.

Plenty of templates available online

The most difficult thing, sometimes, is to choose one thing from the whole variety. options future decorative component of the interior. All subsequent steps already depend on this decision. You can view samples and download a stencil for the realization of your favorite bas-relief on sites specializing in this area:

Choose as your first try decoration apartment genre paintings, battle scenes, complex images of people, wildlife and panoramic views are not recommended.

Repeating ornament

A suitable image for acquiring the skills to obtain a given result for a novice master will be three-dimensional compositions of fruits, leaves, flowers. They can be located as separate elements, and intertwining patterns, make up a fancy tree or cover the entire array.

To begin with, you should watch the training master class of an experienced specialist who will dedicate the intricacies of professional production, application and processing of stucco relief details directly on the wall.

An example of a tutorial video for making a simple decor:

It is not advisable to reduce the simplicity of the image of the element you like to a primitive bulge on the wall - the designation of the background or the likeness of a baguette frame will give it a complete and appropriate look.

Before starting work, the wall surface is thoroughly cleaned of old coatings, dried, treated with a primer and leveled with putty.

castings

A separate gypsum element is made in a prepared form, and then glued in the chosen place. For this you need the following:

  • make a hard box (box) with a low side according to the dimensions of the future part;
  • a three-dimensional form is laid on the bottom, which is covered with a film (without folds and wrinkles);
  • products having a significant thickness are reinforced by laying a wire frame in the form;
  • according to the manufacturer's instructions, knead the solution, pour it into the mold;
  • keep the mixture for the time set by the manufacturer until it dries completely;
  • remove the casting, grind, if necessary, the back side and ends for a snug fit to the base;
  • if the bas-relief consists of tightly fitting cast panels, then the front surface is processed after all joints are sealed with putty, so that the plastered parts look like a single whole.

Finished parts, located at a certain distance from each other, can be connected by sculpting with arbitrary lines depicting branches or a vine.

counter-relief

The technology of in-depth bas-relief from decorative plaster consists in the use of 1 of 2 execution methods:

  • cutting through an array of thick mixture applied to the wall according to a drawing transferred from polyethylene film M 1:1;
  • sequential buildup of layers around the specified areas.

The alignment of the edges is done with a chisel, after which a general sanding is carried out.

Stencil

This method is a variant of the form, which is installed directly on the basis. They take a dense material and cut out sections of the pattern in it, which will be filled with plaster or other composition.

Using a stencil method, you can create both the basis for convex images and build up the sides of thin sections of in-depth (counter-relief) compositions.

modeling

The most common way to make small details in any other type of image, as well as in the manufacture of bas-reliefs from putty and alabaster.

The drawing is applied with a pencil directly on the wall, large area can be divided into squares for easier layout and scale.

It is not necessary to carefully draw the nuances of the entire picture, it is enough to outline the contour of the object and the main lines of the fragments depicted in this area.

Upon completion of the bas-relief, its lines are brought to perfection with a sharpened tool and covered with colored or white (ottocento) compositions.

Often such a design technique is usually used to decorate private houses, where the layout includes. At the same time, the decor can act not only in the form, but also as a pattern that surrounds the fireplace. In addition, this interior decoration will look great in door and window openings, the main thing here is to choose the right size and texture. Aerobatics - a decorative bas-relief, which will include the presence of illumination. It will make images more voluminous, giving the impression of 3D graphics.

An important point of using relief decor on the wall is that it does not necessarily have different colors, as is the case with ordinary painting. The main thing here is to correctly select the lighting, this will allow you to get the selection of various edges of the image, using only artificial lighting, as shown in the photo.

There is an erroneous opinion that decorating a house with elements of bas-relief inserts is too expensive. In fact, how to do it, do-it-yourself bas-relief on the wall is quite accessible for beginners. enough to follow closely step by step guide which is presented below. It is complemented by a video that will allow you to answer many questions that arise in the course of work.

Do-it-yourself bas-relief master class for beginners

People who are far from repair often mistakenly think that such an artistic decor is a prefabricated structure, the elements of which are cast from plaster. In fact, it is made by hand, and in its essence is a truly original and unique work of art. Each bas-relief is unique in itself, even if the same sketch is used to create. In principle, creating a three-dimensional drawing on the wall requires certain skills and abilities, as well as careful adherence to technology, however, even beginners can cope with the task.

First you need to decide on the material to create the decor. AT this process can be used various options, for example, plaster, gypsum, alabaster and even clay. However, if you are new to this activity, it is best to start with plaster only for now. In extreme cases - gypsum-based plaster.

Master class Do-it-yourself bas-relief of a flower from gypsum putty video

After choosing the material, you should begin to create the so-called base, in which a decorative bas-relief will be created on the wall. To do this, you need to collect wooden box with low sides, which will require several slats and plywood as a bottom. The dimensions of the resulting box will match the dimensions of the future decor, this should be taken into account when assembling it. Any box that will have rigid walls and a base can replace the box.

The base of the box should be covered with a film, while it is necessary that there are no wrinkles on it at all, or you should try to keep their number to a minimum. Then you need to start preparing the solution, which should be carried out exclusively according to the manufacturer's instructions. The finished solution is poured into the mold. For tall patterns, you will need wire for reinforcement. After pouring the mixture into the box, leave it alone for the initial drying, the duration of this period depends entirely on the manufacturer's recommendations.

Bas-relief in the interior photo in the apartment

Now you can proceed directly to the manufacture of a bas-relief with your own hands. The main condition here is the creation of the contour of the future ornament, which then needs to be filled with a mixture, which in turn will be prepared anew. The volume of the future decor should be increased stage by stage, while allowing each previous layer to dry properly. You can draw contours on the surface with a film, covering the surface with it, after which the film is removed.

Stucco will be a very successful material, since it is very convenient to work with it while it is wet. Due to the pliability of the material, it will be quite possible to remove excess plaster, as well as adjust the shape of the future pattern. Also, plaster that is not dry enough is easily sanded. You should not try to immediately perform several layers, since the hardening of each segment is a prerequisite.

In addition, the "beginners' guide to making wall art bas-relief" includes the possibility of creating indentations in the future. wall panel. The indentation is created in two available ways:

  • Cutting through the material and removing some of it from the finished layout using a chisel.
  • Increasing the background around a certain point, which as a result is lower.

Most often, a flower, usually a lily or a tulip, is chosen as the basis for the image in the bas-relief. Creating a lily with your own hands may initially seem like a too difficult task, but in fact, even a beginner can do this process. It is important to follow every step of the process, which guarantees the creation of a successful relief.

Bas-relief paintings on the walls design photo

Often, lilies are applied directly to the wall, without creating a base in the form of a box. In this case, the obligatory moment is the complete closure of the remaining elements of the interior with masking tape to avoid damage. Next, the future base of the drawing must be covered with putty, and then, after waiting for it to dry, apply a primer. It is advisable to use the so-called primer paint as a primer, because due to its properties it allows you to get maximum adhesion to the elements. decorative bas-relief further. This composition dries for about three hours.

Marseille wax is applied with a trowel, which is a fast-curing material suitable for the starting step. With the help of a film fixed over the entire surface of the future bas-relief, details should be drawn. When fixing the film, do not forget to be able to bend it freely, for this one edge should be left free.

Bas-relief on the wall in the interior photo in the apartment

Initially, you can outline the outlines of the future pattern on the film using a marker. After that, having unfolded the film, one should draw the future lily according to the traces obtained with the help of all the same Marseille wax, which will be the most successful material if the painting goes directly on the wall, without using a substrate.

Usually the wax used in the work is white in color. To diversify the bas-relief, you can further cover the frozen flower with a certain composition. Nevertheless, the main task of the master is to give the bas-relief maximum realism. As a final layer of decorative lily trim, you can use acrylic paints. We must not forget about the finishing layer, which needs to draw each element of the composition.

Master class how to create a flower on the wall video lesson

As you can see from the guide above, the bas-relief on the wall is an interesting, but time-consuming process to create it yourself. Novice masters will need a little perseverance and attention, as well as strict adherence to technology. The important thing here is to stock up on attention and the necessary tools.

We present to your attention a master class on creating a bas-relief on the wall. Actually, according to the designer’s idea, a giant pirate-themed panel made using the wall airbrush technique will be placed on the wall (see a master class on similar painting). In the form of a bas-relief, that is, three-dimensional, there will be only a decorative frame.

Creation of a bas-relief on the wall. Step-by-step instruction

Any work should start from the surface. For this panel, I primed the wall with an acrylate-based Tex deep penetration primer, then leveled it with latex putty and applied another layer of primer.

Then I marked the width of the frame in proportion to the sketch agreed by the Customer. Pre-wrapped with masking tape (so as not to spoil) wooden rivers, limited the future "boards". Nailed them to the wall with nails.

Then he drove nails into the space between the slats and pulled the fishing line - he made reinforcement. At that time, I did not have a wire, but if you have one, you can use it.

To create a bas-relief, I used dry plaster mixtures: Volma-layer, Volma-seam, Fugenfüller, Rotband. The Rotband proved to be the best. A mixture of it is at the same time viscous enough not to “slide” and keep its shape, and malleable and plastic enough to give the final volume and shape, perfectly “cut”. "Volma" is more plastic, therefore it flows down, and "Fugenfüller" quickly hardens and is very poorly processed. When preparing the mixture, it is necessary to take into account the lifetime of the resulting solution. For each composition, it is different (see packaging), and you need to have time not only to apply the mixture to the surface, but also to give volume and relief. To create the relief of the “old tree”, I used an old brush - mop, acting intuitively, somewhere I bent the veins , somewhere I inserted a “knot” or left the surface without relief (where the tape would be according to the sketch). Complicated the texture with knives (kitchen and stationery) and various improvised tools.
I found samples of tapes on the Internet and printed them out in full size. Then I transferred it to corrugated cardboard and carefully cut it out. Got a sample and stencil. Sample in place baited on nails. Then he put a stencil and fixed it with nails, and removed the sample. Similarly, I made the reinforcement of the tapes. He applied the solution and gradually began to choose in places of kinks, giving the desired volume and smoothness. The edge of the ribbons outlined with a knife.

Here it is important to have time before the mortar hardens, since after that it is like cutting a stone.

The bas-relief was covered with soil, the defects that appeared were puttied, sanded and primed again. And so on until the result suits me. Then I covered it with Tikurilla “Otex” primer, previously tinted in the darkest color. Then he covered the "boards" with dark brown alkyd enamel(Tikurilla, Garden 10), diligently filling all the pores and cracks of the "wood" and immediately removed upper layer with a rubber spatula, highlighting the protrusions and reliefs of the texture.

If desired, it was possible to pass with a semi-dry brush in a lighter tone, but I did not, being satisfied with the result.
