How to make a shoe box yourself. Shoe rack assembly instructions

Taking care of piled-up shoes is problematic. So that the boots do not get dirty, do not suffer from damp and dust, you need to install. The easiest way is to purchase a ready-made solution, but this is not always possible.

Here we will consider an alternative route - manufacturing is not simple, namely shoe racks with our own hands. We have to select tools and materials, determine the size and internal structure. At the end, diagrams, drawings and photographs await you.

The amount of material and the set of tools will depend on the chosen design. The following tools will come in handy for making a wooden cabinet:

  • drills (confirmatory, 5 or 8 millimeters);
  • tape measure (square, ruler) and pencil;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver (can be replaced with a drill);
  • 4mm Allen key;
  • awl;
  • Forstner's drill;
  • template (its task is to make a marking for drilling).

Of course, if you are going to make a cardboard shoe rack, the set will be different. But more on that later.

Want a stronger, cheaper shoe? Use chipboard sheets as material. In addition, you will need hardware:

  • pens;
  • euro screws;
  • shoe mechanism (if any);
  • screws;
  • decorative supports (you can do without them, but the structure will look more solid with supports).

For the carousel shelf, you will need metal pins (round shelves are attached to them) and a vertical post. You don't need any special tools (except for a drill). The complete list of materials for the "carousel" looks like this:

  • round pins (holders);
  • fiberboard discs;
  • plastic tips;
  • steel tube;
  • metal corners;
  • screws (plus lock washers to them);
  • half a liter of primer;
  • machine screws (together with nuts and washers);
  • acrylic paint.

More comfortable solutions are also possible (together with leather upholstery). Read about it below, as well as about the sizes of your own shoe racks.

Product dimensions

The dimensions of the product depend on the area of the hallway and the needs of the owner. Lonely people will have enough of a small locker attached to, and a family of 3-4 people needs a full-fledged shoe rack, designed for 20-30 pairs. Shop models are often made in China, whose inhabitants have an odd tendency towards miniaturization.

Shoe racks can be wide. It is difficult to make a curbstone or make it yourself, so it is better to limit yourself to a simple cabinet. The product requirements are as follows:

  • functionality;
  • ergonomics;
  • good ventilation;
  • aesthetics;
  • spaciousness.

A minimalist shoe dryer does not need to take a lot of space. A fairly small and unpretentious wall model. The parameters can be as follows:

  • facades (curly MDF boards or STRAIGHT chipboard) - 119.5x44.7 centimeters;
  • sidewalls (standard furniture boards) - 118.4x32 centimeters;
  • back wall (thin hardboard) - 119.5x89.5 cm;
  • drawers (can be purchased in furniture stores) - 86.8x10.

There are also more compact solutions. Most of them are mounted on the wall of the hallway or placed inside the wardrobe ("carousel"). The dimensions of such structures are much smaller.

To find the perfect option for your hallway, we recommend using special design programs - you can download and install them on your computer. There are also ready-made projects, including diagrams, drawings and detailed tables with lists of parts.

How to make a shoe rack yourself

There are different types of homemade shoe designs to optimize your hallway space. Some of the solutions are quite complex - for example, a carousel shoe rack. We will not follow the path of complication and will deal with the simplest shoe cabinet designs made of cardboard and wood.

Consider an example of hand-assembling a narrow shoe rack for a bachelor apartment. This design is designed for a small number of shoe pairs, and when assembling you need a drill, hacksaw and screwdriver. Here is a list of the materials you will need:

  • moisture resistant plywood (five sheets of 12 mm thick);
  • long shoe brushes (the amount depends on the length of the shoe, the bristles must be stiff);
  • wood screws;
  • spikes (6 pieces 6 mm each);
  • acrylic paint;
  • construction glue (for wood);
  • brush;
  • transparent moisture resistant varnish;
  • dowels.

The shelf can be painted with gouache or acrylic - this is unimportant. The brushes act as shoe holders here. The assembly order is as follows:

  1. A block with brushes is assembled. Through holes are drilled in the plywood edge (6 pieces).
  2. Apply glue to the thorns and insert into the resulting holes.
  3. Similar "holes" are made in plywood C, which is connected to sheet B. You can press the parts with clamps - then the glue will set faster.
  4. Element D is attached to an existing structure.
  5. The handles of the brushes are sawn off (you can buy brushes without handles - it will be cheaper).
  6. In the brushes, a pair of through holes is drilled, after which they are attached along the entire length of the structure (one centimeter from the edge) by means of short self-tapping screws.
  7. Unused parts A and E are drilled.
  8. All fragments of the shelf are fastened with self-tapping screws.
  9. The penultimate touch is the painting of the shoe rack. You can involve small family members in the process. Decoupage and other creative experiments are encouraged.
  10. The wall of the hallway is being drilled. Dowels are installed, the shelf is suspended.

We have also prepared several useful videos for you that will teach you how to create shoe racks with your own hands.

Are narrow shoe racks the best solution for small hallways? Do not believe me, watch the following video:

The following video will also tell you how to assemble a shoe rack with your own hands:

Do you want a shoe rack for more comfortable removal of your boots? Then the following video will definitely come in handy for you:

You can create hanging and floor shoe racks from cardboard with your own hands. The hanging shelf is made of dense, high-strength cardboard, and you can store demi-season shoe pairs in it. You will need an unnecessary box (it's easy to get one in stores) and other things:

  • furniture knife (can be replaced with large scissors);
  • joiner's glue;
  • large scotch tape;
  • Ruler and pencil;
  • stapler (staples to it must be large).

The cardboard is laid out on a flat surface, after which you divide it (using a pencil) into several rectangular sections. The height will be 30 centimeters, and the length is comparable to the width of the cardboard. The rectangle is divided in half and bent - the side walls must be hammered with equal triangles (the vertices will look down).

By folding the rectangles, you form the boxes. Glue their edges with tape to protect them from moisture. The drawers are inserted into the grooves of the neighbors and secured with wood glue - this way you get a single structure. Attach hooks on top and secure the product to the wall.

A floor-standing shoe rack is formed in a similar way, but it is not attached to the wall.

The downside of such a solution is its extreme instability. Cardboard is a lightweight material, so floor-standing shoe racks can be knocked over by hitting the edge of your coat.

Cardboard shoe rack

Made of wood

Using wood and metal strips as the main components, you can build a fairly stable shoe rack that adequately takes its place in the hallway. You can save money by replacing the tree with chipboard or fiberboard. The thickness of the sheets should be about one and a half centimeters.

You will also need special strips made of stainless steel. The slats are cylindrical. In total, you need to get eight of these parts.

Please note: the cross-sectional diameter of the strips is two centimeters. Brackets and clips will also come in handy (flanges and screws). And here is a list of DIY tools:

  • pencil and ruler;
  • screwdriver;
  • Sander;
  • jigsaw;
  • nails;
  • compass;
  • hammer.

So, how to make a wooden shoe cabinet with your own hands? The process begins by cutting out the back and side walls. Usually, the height of the shoe rack is arbitrary, and the width is 23 centimeters. This will allow you to make a two-tiered shoe rack.

The back wall is cut out at the very beginning - it will consist of a pair of thin strips. The shelf should be 20 centimeters wide. Having cut out a fragment with a jigsaw, you need to sand the edges and deal with the side walls.

First, you need to mark up a couple of rectangles of the same type. With a pencil, compasses and a ruler, mark the front rounding. Roundings are cut out with a jigsaw, then the walls are ground and fastened into a single section.

The final assembly of the shoe rack with your own hands. Here is the procedure:

  1. The attachment points of the flanges are marked.
  2. By means of strips, the side walls are fastened together.
  3. The back walls are nailed to the back (end) of the sidewalls.

The scheme can be complicated if desired. Alternatively, replace the chipboard with wood and cover the upper part with leather.

How to assemble a shoe rack (shoe rack) should be known to every person who is going to purchase this necessary piece of furniture for the corridor. Often the instructions are included, but still more often you have to navigate on the spot. Usually the whole process takes no more than a few hours, but there are exceptions.

Shoe racks themselves were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They could be found in almost every house in a wide variety of options: from ordinary boards or solid wood. Currently, they are just an element of decor that fits perfectly into the interior of any hallway, in addition, they allow you to store shoes as compactly as possible, no matter how many of them.

Build process

For work you will need:

  • level;
  • roulette;
  • cordless screwdriver;
  • screwdrivers;
  • hammer.

During the purchase in the store, it is advisable to ask the seller if there are any special nuances during assembly. Such features can be expressed in hinge attachments, interlocking elements (if any) and propulsion system, if any. The whole assembly process is concluded in 4 points:

When unpacking, you should be extremely careful and careful so as not to damage any of the parts (the box must also remain intact, because if there is a defect inside, it is she who will serve as a guarantor that the defect was a factory defect). After unpacking, all parts are carefully checked for defects and recalculated. If possible, this process is carried out while the forwarder (delivery service) has not yet left the premises. Such an approach with witnesses on the part of the seller will completely secure the purchase in the event of a defect.
Large pieces of furniture are assembled at home exclusively on the floor. If there is a carpet in the room, then it is better to twist it, so that later not to clean it again (and it is very tedious to look for small accessories in the carpet). The process takes some time, so it is better to do it on a weekend or at sunset when there are no other things to do. You also need to carefully consider the presence of walls around, so as not to damage anything, and cardboard or other dense material is lined on the floor.

For assembly, a diagram is not required, even if it is available, because everything is always intuitive. When assembling, special screws for chipboard are usually used, for which holes are made in advance (no self-respecting manufacturer will allow himself to sell unprepared material). With the help of short studs, the back wall is fixed (sometimes also with screws). After everything is assembled, you need to close the excess metal with plugs, which are also included in the kit.
With the help of the level, everything is checked thoroughly. If irregularities are revealed, then it is quite possible to remove the plug and stretch or align the required element.

What a great variety of shoes in shops and markets! The female half cannot resist buying another pair of shoes for a new dress. For men there is a choice of practical shoes and there are many of them too. How many inconveniences are shoes in the hallway? Where to store all this at home?

The solution can be found in a furniture store, namely, buy a shoe rack or do it yourself.

Some have a small apartment and a narrow small hallway, while others have a spacious house. Some live with older children and grandchildren, while others live alone. Hallways, like families, are different, so typical pieces of furniture do not always suit a particular room. A comfortable shoe rack, created with your own hands, will help solve the problem of choice.

With it, your hallway will be transformed into a stylish and comfortable business card at home.

How to choose the right one? First, let's get acquainted with the types of furniture such as a shoe rack.

  1. Shoe wardrobe.

It is very convenient in small rooms, since the doors open and can be combined with the main wardrobe for clothes.

  1. Showcase rack with doors.

It can be placed along the entire wall, the size of the shelves is any, but the disadvantage of such a shoe rack is instability.

  1. Slim-format wardrobe.

Such a cabinet has hinged doors at an angle of 45-90 degrees. And the name speaks for itself. This type of furniture is "thin", the shoes will be located at a slope.

High over-the-knee shoes can deform on such shelves.

  1. Kaloshnitsa.

Suitable more for a balcony. Shoes on such shelves dry quickly, but it is inconvenient to store.

  1. Rack.

It is the simplest design, but unstable and unaesthetic for the hallway.

  1. Cupboard cabinet.

The most common and practical shoe rack.

Advantages:

  • With steadiness;
  • M multifunctionality;
  • Compactness;
  • E aestheticity.

A closed shoe rack is suitable for people with pets. It will help protect your shoes from all kinds of damage from your pets.

For the curbstone, you can make folding, sliding and ordinary doors. So it will take up little space. A shoe rack made of laminated chipboard will be durable and will not fail for a long time.

Wooden models are easy to make with your own hands, which saves the family budget.

Shelves and drawers in the closet can be made for any type and size of shoes. And on top there is an opportunity to make a table or upholstery with fabric, a shoe rack with a seat in the hallway will come out.

The seat replaces an ottoman or stool for easy changing.

Types of materials that can be used for shoe racks:

Metal and wood make the cabinet heavier; shoes won't breathe in plastic. MDF is a good choice, but not cheap. The most suitable material for storing shoes- Chipboard. It does not weigh down the shoe rack and is easy to assemble.

Today it is the most demanded material in the shoe furniture segment.

And so, let's dwell on the wardrobe cabinet made of chipboard.From the tools we need:

Parts procurement

DIY shoe assembly instructions

Chipboard thickness + Width of the planned shelf + Half the chipboard thickness.

For example, a part is 12mm, the width of the shelf is 300. It turns out: 12 + 300 + 6 = 318mm.

We do this from the right and left edges. Transfer the drawing directly to the inside of the chipboard and sign each detail where it will be located. Then, when assembling, you will not confuse anything.

When marking the holes in the height and width of the shelves, you need to take into account the rear part, since from this side the entire view of the cabinet is located in the same plane.

  1. Inside, the shelves will be supported by shelf supports. You need to drill holes for them. To calculate the correct location of these holes, it is necessary to subtract each thickness of the partition from the height of the rack and divide by the number of shelves.

To the result obtained, add the thickness of the shelf and half the diameter of the shelf holder.

For example, the post height is 600 mm. Two shelves are planned. Shelf thickness 12 mm. Shelf support diameter 5mm.

The calculation procedure will be as follows:

600-12=588

588/2=294

294+12+2=308

Therefore, you need to measure 308 mm from the top.

After the holes have been drilled, you can put the shelf supports by filling them with glue and hammering them in.

Assembling a shoe rack according to a drawing with your own hands

When all the holes are made, you can start assembling for the confirmation. We attach the middle racks to the lower part, then the extreme ones. Make sure that there are no protrusions at the joints of the corners.We attach the covers to the corners, put the shelves on the holders and install the finished boxes on the guides.

We attach furniture handles to the doors in any position. They can also be attached to awnings, or you can install sliding ones.

Decorating a do-it-yourself shoe rack can be varied.

Hand-made furniture always distinguishes the interior from other apartments, where there are typical dressers and wardrobes.

VIDEO: DIY shoe cabinet.

The question of organizing order in shoes sooner or later arises before every person. It is especially relevant for women who are so fond of buying more and more new shoes. A purchased shoe cabinet is not cheap and, moreover, very often it simply does not fit into the interior design you painstakingly create. This is why it is much better to make your own shoe cabinet. Moreover, this process is quite simple and very interesting.

The perfect shoe cabinet

So what should be a shoe cabinet? In order for such a cabinet to fit perfectly into the interior of the hallway and perform all the tasks assigned to it, it must meet the following characteristics:

  1. The shoe cabinet model should combine reliability and safety. Always make this piece of furniture from high quality materials that are safe for your health.
  2. The selected model should be made in accordance with the overall style of the hallway. For example, for a minimalistic hallway, a small cabinet of the correct shape and without excessive decor is suitable.
  3. The closet must strictly match the dimensions of your hallway. Too large and massive an option will clutter up a small hallway, and too small will be lost in a spacious hall.
  4. The chosen model should have a sufficient number of shoe sections for different seasons.
  5. And most importantly, the shoe cabinet should be roomy enough, especially if it is located in an apartment where a large family lives.

Choosing the type and shape of the shoe cabinet

Who would have thought that a shoe cabinet (or, simply put, a shoe rack) could be made in so many different types. Let's get acquainted with the different shoe rack designs that you can implement with your own hands.

In a small apartment, every centimeter counts! There is always a sorely lack of storage space here. The owners are constantly looking for solutions, looking for original ideas that will help make the house more spacious, cozy and comfortable.

The most difficult thing is for families with children, fashionistas, as well as young people who want to always look perfect. All these categories of people need a huge number of shoes, for any weather, combined with all sets of clothes. And, in the end, the question: "Where to store all this ?!" - becomes very acute.

Still, shoes are the subject is seasonal. Sandals in winter, most likely, you will not need. Remove unnecessary shoes from the hallway. Leave here only what you are actively wearing at the moment.

It is most convenient to store shoes in transparent boxes. So you will always see what, where lies, and you do not have to spend a lot of time looking for the right pair. If there is a goal to do without the financial costs of buying special boxes, then you can print an image of each pair and stick it on the desired cardboard box.

Throw away without regret all unnecessary shoes that are worn out, tight, not comfortable to wear, disappointed you - in general, everything that you have not "walked" for a year or two. You will be amazed at how much space is freed up!

Many are very annoyed by the huge number of different boxes and boxes. You can buy several large boxes on wheels: put winter shoes in one, summer shoes in the other, and demi-season shoes in the third. Inside each, arrange partitions of different sizes. Now it is enough to pull out only one box and dig into it already.

Shoes can be stored on a plastic-glazed balcony, provided that the humidity is low and the temperature is above zero.

We solve a difficult problem

In our case, the customer is not a married (yet) young man who has some weakness for shoes, that is, he has a lot of them, and there is a shortage of storage space, as is usually the case. You can also contact a professional furniture assembler, but a do-it-yourself shoe rack is not at all difficult.

As a result, it was decided to make two narrow shoe racks. One - two compartments wider, the other - three narrower.

Obviously, for a small corridor, it is better to make (order) shoe racks that are narrow, but at the same time high enough. So a small hallway will not seem cluttered and all the shoes will fit.

In each of the compartments, you can store short shoes in two rows. This is both a plus and a minus. The plus is that the depth of such a cabinet is minimal, and the minus is the impossibility of placing high-top shoes, boots, etc.

To visually make the corridor larger, usually this is the darkest room in the apartment, choose light colors for decoration.

The size of the pedestals was dictated by the available space. The color was chosen based on the overall design of the apartment - in unison. Wenge colored bodies, facades - Milky oak.
