Door closer: do-it-yourself installation, types, choice. Self-installation and adjustment of the door closer

Fast, high quality, expensive.

Because cheap is never good.

We have installed thousands to replace previously installed ones that leaked due to improper installation. We installed hundreds of door closers on doors where the customer believed it was impossible to install them properly in principle. We carried out dozens of truly unique installations. We install door closers professionally!

As practice shows, most closers are installed by unqualified specialists, or by people who are installing a closer for the first time in their lives. Following only the installation instructions, and not knowing all the nuances and subtleties of installation.

What do we offer? And most importantly, why and how do we do it?

Installation of closer

Let's start from the very beginning simple option installation, installation of an overhead door closer on a door made of aluminum profile. We will assume that the choice of door closer was made technically competently and fully complies with the parameters of the door.

According to the requirements, we select the place where the closer will be located. Almost any door closer can be installed on both left and right doors. On the door leaf from the hinge side, or on the door frame from the side opposite to the hinges.

According to the installation instructions and the attached template, mark the locations of the mounting holes.

For closers whose force is adjusted in steps, depending on their location on the door leaf, we select in advance the required distance from the hinge axis, including for the lever foot.

Attention! During installation of this type closers, in most cases, the door opening angle will be limited to 105-110 degrees if the maximum closing force is selected according to the instructions. If the closer has a force adjustment function using a screw, the final force adjustment will be made upon completion of installation.

Attention! Whatever would be excruciatingly painful, for wrong drilled holes, we recommend checking the dimensions indicated in the template with the actual ones.

After marking, we drill mounting holes. If you use the fasteners that come with the door closer, stock up on a drill in advance (and knowing their quality, it’s better to have two) of the required diameter. In our case, we use a drill with a diameter of 7 mm to install the so-called embeds.

The use of bonks can significantly increase the reliability of fastening the closer to the door leaf. And when installing closers on doors made of aluminum or PVC profiles, is actually the only solution.

Examples of non-professional installation of door closers:

After installing the bonk, disconnect the lever and the rod.

We attach the lever foot to the door frame, not forgetting about the orientation of the foot itself.

Orientation of the closer foot according to the selected force. Standard (EN1154)

We attach the rod directly to the door closer.

We install the closer on the door frame and adjust the moving part of the lever so that it is perpendicular to the door frame.

When installing a door closer with a “latching” function, implemented using rods, we position the non-adjustable part of the lever perpendicular to the door frame. This is achieved by adjusting the moving part of the lever. In our case, the closer does not have this function, so we connect the rods to each other and proceed to adjusting the closer (Fig. A).

Rice. A With a bang. No hassle.

The door closing speed is set using two adjusting screws located at the end of the closer. At correct location door closer, these screws should face the hinges. In some door closer models, the screws are located under a removable decorative cover or casing. In the classic version, the closer allows you to adjust the closing speed in two ranges (Fig. B).

Rice. B

Adjusting screw 1 - in the range from 180 o to 15 o

Adjusting screw 2 - in the range from 15 o to 0 o

Let's start making adjustments. We open and release the door, using screw No. 1 we adjust the required closing speed in the main range from 180 o to 15 o. We open the door again and use screw No. 2 to set the final speed. Depending on the tasks at hand, it may be higher or lower than the closing speed in the main range.

The adjusting screws of most door closers allow you to set the required speed within one turn. Do not unscrew the screws completely. This may cause the screw to fall out and oil to leak. We finally check the performance of the closer and install the decorative cap.

We looked at the simplest, classic example of installing a door closer. However, very often cases arise that require a non-standard approach to installation.

Non-standard solutions for installing door closers

To minimize the effects of external aggressive environment, and most importantly, large temperature differences, it is advisable to install the closer on the inside, and not the “outdoor” side of the door. On the side opposite to the hinges, the classic closer is installed only on the door frame (Fig. 1) And on the side of the hinges, on the door leaf (Fig. 2)

Rice. 1 Fig. 2

If it is structurally impossible to install the closer on the door frame on the side opposite to the hinges, we recommend using a mounting bracket for parallel mounting of the lever. In this case, we mount the closer directly on the door leaf. (Fig.3). If there is not enough space for installation on the door frame, we use a mounting corner plate (Fig. 4).

Rice. 3 Fig. 4

When it is necessary to install a closer on non-standard doors, special additional accessories are used:

Mounting plate for closer housing (Fig. 5)

Suspension plate for closer body (Fig. 6)

Extension plate for folding arm (Fig. 7)

Rice. 5 Fig. 6 Fig 7.

Installation options for a door closer with a sliding rod

Separately, I would like to draw attention to the installation of door closers with a sliding rod (channel) (slider). Lately Everyone uses this type of closers. in great demand, therefore the number of installations of such closers is steadily growing. Most door closers with a sliding rod are installed on the door frame on the side opposite to the hinges, or on the door leaf on the side of the hinges. (Fig. 8.) Some manufacturers offer sliding rod closers in special designs that allow them to be installed on the frame on the side of the hinges, or on the door leaf on the side opposite the hinges. (Fig. 9)

Rice. 8 Fig. 9

Attention! In most cases, when installing door closers on the side opposite to the hinges, a door opening angle limiter or a special stopper built into the slider is required.

There are also universal models of door closers with a sliding rod, which can be installed in four versions at once. (Fig. 10)

For cases where the dimensions door leaf or door frame do not allow for standard installation according to the manufacturer’s instructions, we use the following accessories:

Mounting plate for sliding channel (Fig. 11)

Angle mounting plate for sliding channel (Fig. 12)

Rice. 11 Fig. 12

The use of special accessories allows not only to perform high-quality installation, but also to equip almost any door with a closer.

Installation of a rebated door closer

A separate, and perhaps the most labor-intensive type of installation is the installation of rebated and hidden door closers. Such closers are not visible on the door leaf, and while doing everything necessary functions closing the door does not violate the integrity of the interior. As an example, here are the main stages of installing a rebated door closer:

According to the manufacturer's specifications, we make the necessary markings on the door leaf and frame. In our case, the door leaf is in the same plane as the door frame. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the minimum allowable tolerances between the axial center of the closer and door hinges(Y). And also the distance between the end of the door, on which the closer is installed, and the axial center of the door hinges (X) (Fig. 13).

Attention! The door opening angle directly depends on these values. For this door it will be 24 and 2 mm, respectively.

Since the thickness of the door leaf is only 35 mm, while the manufacturer allows the installation of rebated door closers on a door with a thickness of at least 40 mm. And the customer’s desire is the law, unless of course it contradicts the laws of physics. We will provide chamfering from the door opening side, a little more than specified in the manufacturer's specifications. If the door thickness is standard, then the door opening angle can be determined in advance from the technical table. And in our case, from the graph (Fig. 13) Using a router, we make grooves for installing the closer itself and the rod bracket.

We install the door closer and the rod bracket, connecting them in advance. Using a hexagon, we adjust the closing force, and with a special key, the speed of closing the door in two ranges.

Attention! Before making adjustments, be sure to remove the locking stopper of the closer!

We check the functionality of the closer and accept gratitude from a happy customer.

Installing a door closer for metal doors not only controls their closing, but also extends the service life of the doors. The closer makes the closing process smooth, and therefore safe for the door and its fittings.

Closers for metal doors must be installed in public spaces with a large flow of people. Closers are also required to be installed on entrance doors in residential buildings, especially where intercoms are installed: magnetic lock Doors with intercom only work when the door is closed.

Species

For metal doors, the following automatic closing devices are used:

  • upper ones with a two-link lever or with a sliding rod;
  • hidden closers that are mounted inside the door.

Devices are divided by power class, which corresponds to the spring force when closing the door. The greater the power, the higher the index or size of the door closer, designated in EN or S. Before buying a door closer, you need to select it correctly, taking into account the parameters of the door: its weight and width.

Closer power table:

If the door parameters are of intermediate value, you need to choose a larger door closer.

For metal doors that are heavier than doors made of plastic or wood, it is necessary to install a door closer of at least size 5. For massive armored doors A device of the highest class 7 will be required.

In some cases, two closers are installed at once to reduce the force required to close the door. A device for an outdoor metal door must be purchased that is heat-resistant or frost-resistant, the operating temperature range of which is from +35 o C to – 45 o C (in some cases up to – 70 o C).

A door closer for metal doors in the entrance of a residential building (door closer GEZE TS 2000, for example) must be equipped with a stopper or an open position latch. It fixes the door when it is necessary to keep it open for some time: for ventilation, moving furniture, etc.

Closers with mechanical locks or locking levers have the ability to fix the door at 90 o or 105 o. High-quality models are equipped with hydraulic door position fixation from 70 o.

When choosing a door closer, you should focus on the maximum door parameters and even external factors. For example, exposure of the door to side winds or non-standard sizes doors, height more than 2.5 meters, etc., require a higher class. If the door parameters correspond to two classes, it is necessary to choose a higher class for a margin of durability and strength.

Installation of closer

For ease of installation, the door closer kit includes installation instructions with a template diagram in life size. If you do the installation yourself, using a template will ensure that the installation of the door closer for metal doors goes without errors.

  1. Fix the template on the door closer to the hinges with tape, the mechanism of the device will be located on the door leaf, and the lever on the upper frame of the door.
  2. Drill holes through the template.
  3. Attach the closer mechanism to the door so that the adjusting screws face the hinges.
  4. then the linkage is mounted: one part to the frame, the other part to the mechanism, then both parts are connected.
  5. Install the cap on the device mechanism.
  6. Adjust the closer.

To install the device, you can use the services of a competent specialist with experience in such work. The price of the door closer installation service starts from 1,500 rubles.

Adjusting the closer

To regulate the closer, there are adjusting screws in its mechanism. Depending on the manufacturer, the adjustment screws have different locations. Dorma mechanisms are adjustable from the end. The screws are designated by numbers 1 and 2: the 1st screw changes the opening angle of the door (up to 180 o), the 2nd screw regulates the speed of opening and closing the door.

Most door closer models have 4 adjustable closing speeds:

  1. Closing speed ranges from 180° to 20°.
  2. The clapping speed ranges from 20° to 0°.
  3. Closing delay up to 20 s (when installed on the hinge side).
  4. The opening delay begins to operate when opening more than 80°, depending on the type of installation of the closer.

The adjustment should be carried out correctly, without force, because when turning the screw a quarter turn, the closing of the door noticeably slows down.

If the device is used incorrectly, when the doors are propped to remove things or to ventilate, there is no working load on the seals and piston, oil is squeezed out of the housing (there is about 200 ml of hydraulic oil in the housing) and the closer mechanism fails. Door closers cannot be repaired, and if it breaks, all you have to do is buy and install a new one.

Adjustments to the device should be carried out by an experienced technician.

Prices

Prices for devices vary significantly depending on the manufacturer and marketing promotions. Average price of an EN 5 class door closer from the Finnish company ABLOY:

  • aluminum closer 5000-5600 rub;
  • stainless steel door closer 7500-7800 RUR;
  • door closer made of polished brass RUB 7,300.

You can buy high-quality DORMA closers, the average price of models of class EN 5 for metal doors is 5,700 rubles, class EN 7 - 11,500 rubles.

The main function of a door closer is automatic closing front door. Before the advent of such mechanisms, residents installed rigid metal springs on it, which were in no way adjusted, and the doors closed with a roar. Closers for metal doors perform their work smoothly and silently. They are increasingly being installed at entrances and in places with high traffic volumes. Closers will not leave doors open in frosty weather. They will cover them tightly, preventing unnecessary drafts, and will help protect them from street noise.

Types of door closers

Depending on the location and installation method, closers can be:
  • top;
  • lower;
  • hidden.

The most common is the top installation option of the mechanism, due to its versatility and the most simple way installation Such a door closer can be found on almost any metal door located at the entrance to a building. Its body is attached to the top inner surface door leaf, and the sliding rod or lever - to the horizontal part of the frame.

Manufacturers produce various designs overhead closers, differing in their operating principle. The lever driven and gear driven device is the most common. But today there is another, no less interesting option, – sliding rod with cam gear.

Hidden, or frame, closers are installed inside door design during its manufacture, and the lower ones are mounted on the floor, and they are practically invisible.

The front door closer can be equipped useful function fixation, designated as “hold-open”. Its essence is to regulate the spontaneous closure of the canvas. When it is necessary to bring large items or a baby stroller inside the building, the door is opened more than 90 degrees. In this position it is fixed and does not interfere with free passage. To close the door, you just need to push it to a certain position, and the closer will then do its job.

More modern models have in their design special valves that help slow down the movement of the door leaf, starting from 70 degrees of its opening. Then the sash is slammed with force either at 7-15 degrees, or just before closing.

Thanks to the slam, resistance is overcome:

  • locking mechanisms, in particular door latches;
  • various types of seals;
  • air masses

Among additional functions Several more closers can be named:

  • closing delay (up to 30 seconds);
  • door leaf closing coordinator (for double doors);
  • opening damper (impossibility of sudden opening).

Each manufacturer is trying to add its own functions that are responsible for the safety, reliability and ease of use of doors with closers. But do not forget that each of them increases the cost of the device.

What does a door closer consist of and how does it work?

The operating principle of door closers is not particularly complicated. When opening the door leaf, some force is applied and transmitted to the mechanism. At the same time, the spring is compressed. When the door is closed, it smoothly straightens and returns to its original position.

Upper door closer metal door It is a mechanism enclosed in a housing, responsible for the soft closing of the sash, and a lever or sliding rod. The mechanism, in turn, consists of a powerful steel spring located in a capsule with oil. When the door leaf is opened, it is compressed under the action of the piston, and then slowly returns to its original position, acting on the piston system in the opposite direction.

Inside the device there are hydraulic channels designed to allow oil to flow into the working container. Also in the housing design there is a gear engaged with the piston drive and connected to a lever or sliding rod.

At the end of the housing there are adjusting screws that affect the cross-sectional size of the hydraulic channels. The smaller they become, the slower the oil flows and the door closes.

Floor or bottom closers do not have a lever system. The movement to the piston drive is transmitted by a gear or a heart-shaped cam mechanism located below, on the axis of rotation of the door leaf, and serving as its support. The piston compresses the spring when the door is opened, and it, having accumulated energy, unclenches. As a result, the door leaf closes. The designs of floor closers are more powerful, but they are installed on metal doors extremely rarely.

The built-in closer works on the same principle as the floor closer. The only difference is that it is mounted not in the floor, but in the frame or frame of the door.

How to make the right choice

Modern models of door closers are equipped not only with heavy-weight entrance doors, but also with lighter ones. interior designs. And the choice of devices depends, first of all, on the weight of the door leaf and its width.

Closers for entrance doors are classified according to European standards (EN) with numbers from 1 to 7, indicating the spring force. This parameter is called the size of the door closer. It should be noted that devices marked EN7 have the highest power. They are placed on massive metal doors with a leaf width of up to 1.60 meters.

There are special tables used to select door closers. But if the door height is more than 2.50 meters, it is recommended to purchase the device in a higher class, thereby ensuring a safety margin. This rule also applies to canvases that have non-standard sizes, as well as in the presence of external factors that increase the load.

When choosing door closers for metal entrance doors, it would not be amiss to inquire about their operating mode. The mechanisms must be frost-resistant and work correctly in hot periods. Some companies produce products that can withstand extreme temperatures, reaching up to -45 or +70 degrees.

Cost and famous manufacturers

A high-quality door closer does not have to be expensive and branded. Domestic companies have learned to produce devices of good quality at more affordable prices. Cost of the most popular products brands varies in different price ranges, depending on the size of the door closer and the availability of additional functions.

For example, mechanisms markedEN1 andEN2, belong to economy class, andEN7 – to the premium class. They are more reliable and more expensive.

To the most famous foreign manufacturers include:

  • Dorma, Boda and GEZE (Germany) - the presence of sliding traction;
  • Cisa and Cobra (Italy) – high quality and incomparable design;
  • Abloy (Finland) – convenient adjustment;
  • Diplomat (Serbia) – two-speed mechanisms;
  • KDC (Korea) - components from German manufacturers.

Domestic manufacturers producing door closers are less known, but the quality of their products is no worse than their foreign counterparts, and the cost is usually lower.

Metal front door is a guarantee of safety.

But its negative qualities include heavy weight, and as a result, extra noise when closing.

To smooth out this nuance, there are mechanisms, the installation of which is accessible to anyone who has a screwdriver in their hands.

So how to install on a metal door? There's nothing complicated about it. Patience, a tool and a little ingenuity will help with this.

A closer is a mechanism that in most cases works according to the old principle of grandma's door spring.

But thanks to the development of technology, it was improved.

But it's not that simple. Today there are many types of mechanisms that have different usage parameters.

Which are individual for each. Depending on the scheme of supplying force to the spring, closers are divided into devices with an internal hydraulic circuit and rack-and-pinion force supply and devices with a cam operating principle.

If we consider the method of fastening, they are presented as overhead and hidden. In turn, overhead door closers are divided into two types:

  • Devices with a hinged (lever) rod consisting of two elbows.
  • Slider system devices – with a sliding channel.

When choosing a device, you need to take into account the characteristics of the door. Its weight and width. There is a certain scale by which the mechanism is selected; it is approved by the European standard. Door closers have 7 sizes, they are designed for door weights from 20-160 kg and door leaf widths from 750-1600 mm.

Scale for selecting a door closer

Closer size

Door width, mm

Door weight, kg

When choosing a mechanism you need to remember the following:

  • The maximum weight or width of the door is the most important when choosing.
  • Installing a mechanism with underrated performance will quickly damage it.
  • Exceeding the standards will lead to difficulties in closing and opening.
  • If the weight or width is greater than indicated in the table, then two mechanisms are used.
  • Not all door closers can be used outdoors.
  • Consider the features in which the mechanism will be used. You may need a slow closing function, a locking function, or some other function. Then the closer must have such characteristics.

Studying the properties and quality of the device when purchasing helps to avoid unnecessary expenses and correct work device for many years.

Preparing for installation

The success of the entire procedure as a whole depends on this stage. If after the purchase the question arises of how to install a door closer on a metal door with your own hands and not use the expensive services of a specialist, first of all look in the box and find instructions and an exact drawing of the device in it. All existing models door closers have these tips included.

The template shows mounting options for left and right, opening towards you and inwards. But if, for some reason, it was not in the box, then the main thing is to remember: if the door opens outward, then the main mechanism is attached to the box, and the element with levers is attached to it. And if inside, then vice versa.

The adjusting screws on the mechanism are located opposite the hinges of the door structure. The example shows all the placement methods and indicates the desired position of the holes for fixing:

  • The first stage is checking the equipment according to the instructions, then preparing the tools (screwdriver, drill, drills, screwdriver, hammer and others).
  • In order for all the drilled holes to coincide with those on the closer and for clear placement of the device as in the diagram, a marking stage is necessary.
  • On sticky tape the closer placement template is fixed. And at the site of future holes, an electric drill is used to drill in order to achieve minimal errors, a core is used, which is used to make recesses in the door leaf. It is important to remember the size of the drill, which must be selected in accordance with the diameter of the holes and fasteners. To be sure that the drill you have chosen is correct, you can drill holes on an auxiliary piece of metal and try to screw the fasteners suggested by the manufacturer into it. If the diameter is not observed, the screw may not fit or, on the contrary, may fall out, which will lead to additional difficulties during installation.

Installation

After preparing the components, tools and holes, you can proceed to the penultimate part - installation. The instructions will again help you do everything correctly:

  • The closer body must be secured with screws to a prepared surface (door or slope).
  • The lever system should fit into the protrusion on the bottom of the main mechanism housing and be secured with a screw.
  • Connecting the lever and the rod - this process, like everything before it, is not complicated: both elements are connected, and a pressing force is applied to them. A click occurs, confirming successful alignment. But main feature, this is their location in relation to . Which significantly affects the speed of closing the door structure at the last stage.
  • The ability to change the location is due to two separate parts of the rod, which can be adjusted in length. The first part is represented by a long threaded strip. The rotation of this part causes a change in length.
  • If you need a regular soft adjustment, place the rod at an angle of ninety degrees to the plane of the door. This is achieved by reducing its size.
  • The final force to close the door (“latching”) must be strong enough to, for example, overcome the resistance of the latch or door latch. By lengthening the rod, the lever is placed perpendicular to the door structure.
  • After obtaining the required parameters, the levers are fixed.
  • The final touch is the snap decorative panel on top of the main mechanism.

How to install a closer on a metal door from the outside

The installation technology is the same as inside. In this case, it is not the installation conditions that are important, but the operation itself on the street. Only frost-resistant models are suitable for this. But also in them under the influence subzero temperatures, may thicken the oil in the hydraulic system.

And this will reduce the functional qualities of the door structure. In addition, the action of precipitation destroys all elements of the closer. Therefore, if it is not possible to protect it from influences or install it indoors, then it is better to abandon it altogether.

If any of the presented schemes is not suitable for installation, then non-standard fastening methods are used that will not harm the operation of the closer:

  • Due to the nature of the door frame, it may be necessary to use a construction angle. It is installed horizontally using self-tapping screws. The lever structure is fixed from the inside.
  • The main mechanism is installed on a construction corner, in the area of the upper slope of the box. The lever is attached to the door plane.
  • A specially prepared block or plate is attached to the door. They must be above a flat surface. The main mechanism is fixed to this device. The lever is attached to the box.
  • An auxiliary device in the form of a plate is attached to the lower part of the slope, and the closer is placed on it. And the lever is fixed on.
  • If the slope is not of sufficient size, it can be increased using a plate. A lever system is attached to it. And the mechanism itself is installed on the door according to an already known scheme.

This is a slightly more complicated installation method. It is necessary in cases where the features of the door or slopes do not allow for standard installation. This requires a little experience, and if you don’t have that, then it’s better to ask a specialist for help.

Installing a door closer on metal doors is not a difficult task that even a teenager can do. But there are times when installation requires additional skills. There are two options here. Do it by trial and error or contact a specialist.

Adjustment

The door closer installation process is complete. And for correct service all that remains is to adjust the device. The instructions include detailed item for the implementation of this activity.

As mentioned above, the adjusting screws should be located opposite the hinges of the door structure. There are usually two of them. Each of them has its own function. The first is responsible for the speed of movement of the closing structure, and the second is responsible for the last stage, the closing period, the so-called “after-clap”.

To increase the desired functions, one or both screws are rotated clockwise. When unscrewing the adjusting screws, you need to be careful; if you do this excessively, the internal oil will leak out of the device. To reduce - in reverse side. Some mechanisms may have additional adjustment elements. For example, as with a clamp or deliberate slowdown. For adjustment tools, you will need a screwdriver, with which you rotate the fastener until the required qualities are obtained.

When there is a change in temperature, humidity, or when parts of the mechanism are worn out (wear is inevitable), additional adjustments must be made. Because the closer may not perform its functions. This does not happen often, up to twice a year. The procedure is not complicated and will take up to ten minutes.

The situation is different with devices that are installed on the street. With a constant change in oil level (this occurs due to temperature differences) and exposure to snow, water, and sun rays, the closer needs to adjust its operation much more often. Up to 1 time per season. Decrease negative impact environment on the closer, devices like a visor or gutter will help.

Adjustment is necessary during use and after installing the closer. Without it, the device's functions may not function properly.

Rules for using the closer

Violation of operating conditions always leads to rapid wear and breakdown of the mechanism. To avoid this, it is important to remember the following:

  • Maximum opening quickly renders the closer unusable. Some devices (slider) have a limiter, and those that do not need shock absorbers. They are mounted on the wall or floor.
  • If the doorway should be long time open, then it is necessary to disconnect the lever system from the main mechanism, and then return everything to its original place. There is no need to prop the door up with anything or secure it with a rope. The closer will not last long. For this purpose, there are models with a built-in lock. Their operating principle is simple. When the door opens up to a certain point, it remains open; if it is time to close it, it must be moved to the side.
  • Damage to the internal structure occurs during forced closing of the doors
  • Lubricating the hinges and levers once a year will extend the life of the mechanism
  • If the device is not located indoors, it must be protected from environmental influences (sun, rain). Correction of work is required twice a year when the season changes.
  • Correct installation, the absence of errors in the placement of loops and other indicators will help the device perform its functions correctly.
  • Once every few years is required complete replacement oil in the closer. For structures that are used outdoors at least once a year.
  • Children are frequent provocateurs of door closer breakdowns because of their love to “ride” on the doors. Additional load and displacement of the center of gravity cause irreparable harm to the mechanism.

The minimum service life of the device is indicated in the warranty that the manufacturer provides for its product. But for this period to increase significantly, the closer needs additional care.

Installation of a door closer is shown in the video:

A metal door is one of the most necessary realities of modern city life. Most apartments are in high-rise buildings, not to mention office buildings and entrances of houses, is equipped with just such doors. This influx of fans of metal doors is explained by the increased crime rate and the need for people to secure their homes. In addition, a metal door looks much more representative and solid than a wooden one, which gives status and a certain respectability to the room from the outside.

But to prevent a metal door, especially one facing an entrance or leading to public places, from slamming, scaring everyone around, special closers have been invented for its smooth movement. These elements make the door move smoothly and also protect it from premature failure. In the article we will consider the issue of installing a door closer on a metal door, and find out the prices for these products.

Description

The door closer is a modern invention. This device appeared after metal doors quickly rushed to be installed in all entrances of our country. Due to the fact that when opened inaccurately, the door produced a deafening roar throughout the entire entrance, a need arose for a device that would soften the speed of opening/closing the metal door.

Closer on a metal door

And so a closer appeared that solved the existing problem. And now not a single office, entrance, or store can do without this incredible convenient device. The device operates on the hydraulic principle: thanks to external force pressure on a spring located in the closer.

It is interesting that at the dawn of their appearance, only a few reputable companies and the entrances of wealthy residential buildings could afford to install door closers due to their exclusivity and lack of mass production. But with the establishment of conveyor production, the problem of the high cost of door closers disappeared, and now these products are quite affordable for everyone. In addition, the design of the device has been extremely simplified.

And if earlier, installing a door closer required calling a specialist, now any man with “hands” can easily handle installing the device on his own, guided by common sense and detailed instructions. In addition, no special tools or expensive fasteners are needed.

Door closer functions

Let's find out why this device is needed.

  • The closer allows you to eliminate loud slamming of the door, which will save the hearing of others, many of them nerve cells, and, in addition, will keep the door leaf in the best possible condition.
  • The mechanism will allow you not to worry about whether you closed the door behind you. This device will gently and smoothly “bring” the metal door to the desired closed position.
  • The presence of this mechanism significantly extends the “life” of the door block and locks.

Species

Let's find out what types of these devices exist on the modern market.

All door closers are divided into three types depending on where they are attached to the door. Based on this feature, devices are divided into the following types.

Upper

The most popular and frequently used door closer model. IN in this case the device is located in the upper corner of the door, without interfering with the movement of people at all. Installation of such a closer is possible on any metal door.
