Materials and tools:

old door leaf natural wood, 2 table supports in a light wood shade (e.g. FINVARD beech from IKEA), fine sanding block, primer and white acrylic paint, brush, paint roller, screwdriver or screwdriver.

Remove old paint from the door or varnish, then carefully sand the canvas. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove any accumulated dust. If necessary, fill the uneven areas.

Before painting, apply primer and then apply the first coat of paint. After it dries, sand it again, remove dust and paint a second time. master class No. 2. DIY table from an old door (modern style)

This method is slightly different from the previous one in technology and is available in two options - (1) more labor-intensive or (2) even simpler than in master class No. 1. We will describe the first one, since it is this that guarantees best result. And then (for those who don’t like complications) we’ll offer a simpler option.

You can also choose different supports. If you focus on IKEA (look in the " workplace"), you can choose ODWALD black (matches the color, but without a bottom shelf) or FINVARD (with a shelf, but you will have to paint it, because they only have white and beech).

Materials and tools:

wooden door leaf in a laconic modern style, 2 table supports (see above), sanding paste, spatula, sander, spray gun, satin black acrylic wood paint.

Clean the door from dust, place it on a horizontal surface and apply sanding paste with a spatula, trying to completely fill the unevenness and holes from the handles and keyhole.

When the paste has dried, sand it with a machine (preferable) or a fine-grained stone (acceptable). Wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust. Repeat with the second side.

Coat both sides of the canvas and the table supports (if required) with paint using a spray gun. After drying, connect the resulting tabletop with the supports.

EASIER OPTION:
As you already understood, the role grinding machine can be done by your hands in conjunction with a sanding block.

And the painting step can be replaced by gluing black vinyl film (matte, with a light wood texture).

If you don’t want to bother with coloring at all, buy IKEA ODVALD supports in black.

master class No. 3. DIY desk made from an old door

This method has some kinship with master class No. 1. But there are also significant differences, and the main one is the purpose of the table. Now you will learn how to do desk from an old door.

Materials and tools:

old door, tempered glass 5-6 mm thick (according to size door leaf), 2 cabinets with drawers HELMER red from IKEA (made of powder-coated steel), wood screws (for connecting the tabletop and support-pedestals), drill, screwdriver.

Carry out all the actions described in master class No. 1 with the door leaf until it is connected to the supports.

In the upper part of both cabinets, mark the joints with the tabletop and drill 4 holes in each. Install the countertop door onto the cabinets from which the drawers were removed. Connect with self-tapping screws, threading them through inside cabinet bodies through the holes and screwing them into the wood.

Place glass on top of the resulting desktop.

If you want to be more decorative, place the canvas in the recesses beautiful pictures, photographs or pieces of interesting textures (for example, fabrics, etc.), and only then cover with glass.

Every home undoubtedly has doors, because it is simply impossible to live without them in modern life. The main role they are needed for is dividing the room into zones. But did you know that from an old door you can make furniture and other useful things for your garden and home, giving a second life to what you were going to throw in the trash?

Sooner or later, doors change, new ones are installed, but what to do with the old ones? Of course, you can take the simple route and just throw them away. But there is another option - to give the doors a second life and usefully use them in everyday life.

Second life of old doors: what to do

You can use old doors in the design of your home. Any model and material option is suitable for this. It can be either wooden or metal structures, old and new, solid or with windows, etc.

Our most main task will choose how and where exactly we want to use them, and also correctly play with our new decorative element.

Depending on the condition and appearance of the door itself, you can create a separate image or corner in our apartment. For example, a door has been around for a long time and there are scratches and cracks on it. There is no need to rush to polish it, but rather, on the contrary, emphasize this point. Such a door can serve as an excellent decoration in a vintage or ethnic style.

Ideas on what to make from an old door

And so, we have doors, and now let’s look at some ideas on how we can use them to design a room.

  1. One of the most popular and extraordinary ways to use it is photo exhibition area. The door plays the role of a kind of frame, which is used for gluing photographs or notes.

To implement this option, our doors can be attached both horizontally and vertically. A French door model with small windows is ideal.

  2. Rack and shelves. Agree that these things are quite functional and necessary in the house. You can put books, magazines, toys and other items there.
The progress of the work will look something like this: we take the door, fill it with the required number of shelves and use this structure for our home purposes.

By the way, it is perfect for use in the kitchen. You can easily place dishes, pots and other kitchen items on such a rack.

  3. Screen. Another application option is a screen made from old doors, which can help zone the space in the house. The only caveat here is that you can use them as a screen in rooms with a large square footage, otherwise they may not fit well into the overall interior.

If there are several unnecessary doors, they can be fastened with hinges and made sliding, like an accordion. By the way, you can use it not only in the house, but also outside it. For example, in the garden to hide from the prying eyes of your neighbors.

  4. Headboard- Very interesting idea, which will make your interior very extraordinary and dynamic. Depending on your wishes, you can place two doors vertically - then our headboard will turn out to be quite high. Or mount one door horizontally.
  5. Table. Any of your guests will be delighted with the new “old” design makeover of the table door. This can be not only an ordinary table in the living room, but also a coffee table, a work table, etc. Any of the options can be played out in such a way that everyone will think about where you purchased such a find.

All you need is to cut out the shape and size of the table that you need from the door, and additionally attach the legs to it.

  6. Decorative panels. If you have a lot of old doors, you can make panels out of them and attach them completely to the entire wall. Usually this option is not particularly practiced in apartments, but more in country houses or dachas.
  7. Mirror frame. Now your mirror will look very unusual and elegant. In general, it is believed that old frames or baguettes are perfect for mirrors, so why not use an old door.
  8. By combining a door with a desktop you can get a wonderful work corner. To properly play with such a design, you will need to paint these two objects the same color and give them some colorful elements or accents.
  9. Corner shelving. One of the most difficult options in terms of execution. But nothing is impossible. The end result will be no different from real furniture that is purchased in stores.

To implement the idea, we saw the door almost in half. One of the sides should be slightly longer by the size of the door thickness, since the shorter one is attached to the long part, and as a result the surfaces are one length. Then we cut out triangular shelves from wood and attach them to our base.
As a rule, on such a corner rack you can store a comb, keys, glasses and other small parts.

  10. One of the most favorite options among HandMade fans is bench from the door. It is very popular, because with its help you can make convenient place for sitting when putting on shoes, as well as a place to store shoes and other boxes. Here you can play it any way you like, the main thing is that it turns out to be a useful and functional thing.

Master class “How to make a table from an old door”

And so, from the theoretical part of the ideas where you can use an old door in the house, we move on to the practical element - how exactly to achieve this.

For example, we will try to build a table from a door that many would initially throw out.

To implement the idea we will need:

  • One unnecessary door.
  • 4 desirable wooden bars, which we will use as legs. If you have any legs from an old table, you can use them.
  • Fastening material.

Our first step will be to make all the material ready for use. Depending on the main idea and wishes, we can leave the door in its old form, or completely polish it. This will depend on what style of interior you would like to create your work of art in.
Additionally, we can paint the door in any desired color, remove or change the fittings, etc. Any creativity You are welcome, the main thing is that you like it.

The next stage is attaching our table to the legs. Again, we can make regular legs, curly or any other. Our design is almost ready, and we lay out the door as a tabletop and put it on legs.

Another point that you can take advantage of is patterns or carvings on the door-table. If it gets on top of the structure, you can additionally install protective glass to avoid damaging the design.

Master class “How to make a new one out of an old door”

In the end, we can simply restore our doors, which will give them a fresh new look.
There are several options for such restoration, so we will consider each of them.

Painting

The most common option for finishing old doors. By the way, it is also the most cost-effective.
All we need is paint desired color and a roller. It is important to note that you really need to use a roller or spray gun, but not a brush. We can additionally use a brush for hard-to-reach places.

Vinyl and wallpaper

Well, this is actually a fairy tale, because we can choose any wallpaper we like that will fit into the interior of the house. This option is also used quite often.

Robot progress:

  • Preparing the surface directly for wallpapering.
  • You will need to prepare PVA glue in advance.
  • Next, we try our wallpaper on the doors, first dry, then apply glue and finally glue it. When you have applied the element, you need to smooth it thoroughly and press it a little.

The main points will be to remove all the air so that the wallpaper does not become covered with bubbles.
When choosing wallpaper, it is best to choose those that are washable so that dirt can be removed without problems.

Veneer finishing

This option is more complicated than the previous ones and is used less often.

Work progress:

How to do coffee table from old doors with your own hands. Most often, during renovations, old doors are replaced with new ones. IN normal situation There is only one place left for them, in a landfill. At best, they try to use the doors somewhere in the dacha, although as a rule they have no use in the dacha either.

Meanwhile, lovers of antique unique items pay a lot of money to find and buy original items. Here too, after the renovation, the old glazed door remained. Although there is only one door, it is a double door; it was just enough to assemble a unique coffee table. In addition, there was a use for the vertical bars of the box, for use as props.

This table design is universal and suitable for doors of any design and size.
As I already said, in this version there were two narrow glazed doors, but in size, the doors were originally double doors.

First we need to decide on the details:
To assemble the structure, we will need to make a tabletop, two legs in the form of solid sidewalls and longitudinal rods holding the legs together. These longitudinal bars between the sidewalls are called “legs”.

We saw off the lower paneled part of the doors so that the frame of the glazed part remains intact. Roughly speaking, the resulting parts are in the form of window frames.
Since the doors in this case are quite narrow, only 400 mm. , then to assemble a wide tabletop, we connect two glazed parts to each other with edges. The approximate width of the tabletop can be 500-700 mm. , length 1000-1400 mm. , assembled table height 600 mm. , although the height can be in the range of 450-600 mm. .

There is a more complicated way: disassemble the doors and assemble a new tabletop frame from the parts. But I know from experience that without serious carpentry skills it is difficult to assemble a more or less decent structure.
But this is a special case, if the door is an interior door of normal width, then there is no need to be clever. Just take a sawn piece of canvas as a tabletop.

Attaching the prongs to the legs can be done in two ways: On a flat or round tenon, where the tenon is cut at the ends of the prongs, and we make nests on the inside of the sidewalls. Or tighten the parts with through screws, through the sidewalls into the ends of the legs. Frail thin self-tapping screws will be of little use, or take euro screws, or long self-tapping screws with a large head. To prevent the parts from splitting when tightening, you must pre-drill holes for screws 1/2 or 2/3 of the length of the screw.
The head of the screws is recessed, then puttied for painting, or closed with plugs. Other homemade design, table

Important stage work on which depends appearance products, this is painting.
Before painting, it is necessary to clean the old coating, fill the cracks and sand the surface after the putty has dried.

If the old bead holding the glass has broken, it is better to replace it with a new one.
Then all that remains is painting; old products are difficult to sand so that they can be varnished. It is better to use an opaque paint, such as acrylic, including modern water-based acrylic and polyurethane paints.
After applying two or three layers, allowing each layer to dry, apply a layer of clear varnish over the paint. This will give the necessary gloss to the product.

We cut out the middle of the main body so that the frame remains and preferably without damage to the surface. Paint with wood varnish to match the color of the apartment's interior. Apply several layers to give a more mysterious look.

Important! Carefully insert the mirror. Then we secure it as desired. For example: use the triangular option.

You can cut the base for the table in any shape. Let's say we chose the shape of a circle, which means we make the legs like three in one.

Important! You can use a screwdriver to fasten the legs into one, under the base of the table. This method is less noticeable from the outside. Use design drawings in the center; the theme can be about coffee or any other.

It’s very easy to make a shelving unit from a door leaf. Remove glass if present. If the format is solid, then we cut the inside like a window of the old form. Decorate to your liking. For example, we cover it with suitable paper or special wallpaper. We use the rack at our discretion: for books, toys, exhibition options, etc.

We use old doors to decorate the wall. Simulates a recess by inserting mirrors. Mirrors along the entire length are attached to the sides of the inner side. Next, you can attach any small drawing. Double-sided reflections in the form of overlap are a fascinating sight. The effect is amazing.

We insert photographs of suitable size into the glass spaces. We attach the door to the wall, like a large painting.

Attention! Don't forget to remove the hinges.

We fasten together several doors in the form of an accordion. We install it in the required place for a portable screen. We don't change anything except achieving the same color. We simply do restoration.

Important! We fasten with hinges.

Two doors will make a bench in the hallway. We use the first one entirely, install it in a standing position against the wall and secure it. Then we build a bench from the other closed type from the side front side. Connect to the main form.

Important! Use the empty space for shoes.

We attach the door to the head of the bed in a standing position: it will give the appearance of a closet. And if you fasten it sideways, it will look like a large backrest. The color background must match the color of the bed.

Use this wall organizer in the kitchen for household utensils. We attach a solid form or use front door. We can paint it any color. We attach different hooks to it and hang kitchen utensils. Great way saving free space.

From wood panel You can make a clock in the form of a canvas of any shape. On the front part we write the numbers 12, 3, 6, 9. We attach arrows to the front.

It's easy to do. For example, fasteners are attached to the body on four sides. Next, make a stand with supports. Connect in a lying position. Irreplaceable for relaxing in the garden.

From six doors it will be possible beautiful gazebo. Connect the edges to each other in any shape. Make the entrance free or closed. Make the top from door panels. Use bright colors for painting. This will give you a festive mood.

Place them in one row and connect them tightly together without gaps. Can be attached to pole supports on crossbars. Decorate the top with a triangular cutout.

You will need several pieces. Assemble as an opening cabinet. Rectangular shape. You will get a good and durable block for storing garden tools.

Build a shelf for pots in 30 minutes: Divide the door into equal four parts. We connect the bottom with the sides and the back side. It is advisable to use standard view. The shelf will look original and unusual.

We attach hooks and a beauty mirror to the finished base. Use connecting parts for strong support.

You will need 3 pieces. We divide one door in half. And we leave others entirely. We fasten it to form a rectangle. We fill the soil inside. The greenhouse is ready.

Reference! It is best to use a glass version for the lid.
