Full review of iPhone 6 plus.

The iPhone, one of Apple's most iconic products, has changed a lot this year. The one and only, special, original suddenly ceased to be so. Now there are two of them and you will have to choose which one to buy. The task, I will say right away, is not an easy one, and if you think that you will pick up both new products and immediately understand everything, I have to disappoint you - it’s difficult to decide. On the one hand - an iPhone with ideal proportions, on the other - an iPhone for ideal content consumption. Let's try to choose?

Before the full review, watch our short video of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - short and most importantly. Enjoy watching:

Design: iPhone 2G is alive!

Appearance of two last generations The iPhone, to put it mildly, has become boring. Yes, the iPhone 5s looks like a jewel with polished edges, but I’ve been wanting something new for a long time. And we know that the new is the well-forgotten old, which is why the iPhone 6 in your hands is so reminiscent of Apple’s first smartphone.

rounded edges, whole piece aluminum and a comfortable fit in the hand. I’m talking now about both models - iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, since they are identical in design, the only differences are in size and in some hardware.

The new iPhone could be a real revelation for me, because I've always wanted a true smartphone of the future - a stylish, but no-frills slab of aluminum and glass. This is what the new product would look like if someone in Apple's design department had pulled Jony Ive's cue when he came up with the design of the antenna module in the iPhone 6. The lines you see on the back cover look mediocre. And using the example of thin and neat stripes on the back cover of the Taiwanese flagship HTC One M8, it’s even somehow sloppy and this is strange. Nevertheless, you can get used to this feature (controversial, by the way, this is a matter of taste).

After two days of use, the iPhone 6 already seems familiar. Eyes are already refusing to look at the 4-inch display, hands are reaching for the thin body and fingers want to run across the glass of the new smartphone again. Its edges are slightly rounded, so the gadget looks and feels like a monolithic piece made of correct materials.

The only caveat is that it is slippery, so I recommend that you think about buying a cover in advance. It seems that Apple accessories are just the thing.

Other noticeable external changes include separate volume control buttons, which are now recessed into the body and can be pressed incredibly clearly. The Power button of the same shape has moved from the top edge to the right side. He falls right on top of her thumb right hand or left index. For the first few hours, of course, you continue to fumble around the top edge in search of a button, but over time everything falls into place - this is the only place where you can comfortably reach with your finger and lock/unlock the device.

Regarding the protruding camera module. He didn't bother me at all. Yes, it's noticeable, but the iPhone lies flat on the table and doesn't wobble when you press it on one side. Maybe there is still a minimal, almost imperceptible movement, but in normal use you don’t notice it. I tried to pry at the module with my fingernail, but nothing came of it.

Screens: Steve was wrong

iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s

Immediately after the release of iPhone 4 (3.5-inch screen) Steve Jobs commented at a press conference on the situation with smartphones equipped with large screens:

It is impossible to control them with your hands, no one will buy them. They're just like Hummer SUVs.

Four years later, his successor Tim Cook introduces two new SUVs. One - with a large screen, the second - with a huge one.

The screens of the new iPhones have been greatly increased in size compared to previous models. This is striking when you pick up the iPhone 6, and probably shocking when the iPhone 6 Plus falls like a shovel on your fingers. The awkward “hmmm-hmm” quickly changes into surprise - the quality of the display and pictures on them are head and shoulders above those of the iPhone 5s.

The display displays colors perfectly, they are natural - not dull or violently burnt, as in Super Amoled screens, which Samsung is actively promoting in Galaxy smartphones. Viewing angles, I think, are the maximum possible. Just imagine that you turn your iPhone towards you, and the text on the screen remains perfectly readable. Yes, thanks to the new polarizer film in the iPhone 6/6 Plus, the display behaves much better in the sun than the iPhone 5s.

With the screen of the iPhone 6 Plus, the situation is exactly the same as with the iPhone 6. If you do not take into account that its dimensions will seem extremely large for the user of the “five”. The iPhone seems very unusual with such a screen and, it seems to me, that’s what Apple intended. This is practically a new device that can “eat up” some iPad mini users and launch the process, predicted by many, of turning iPad tablets into full-fledged computers with touch screens.

  • iPhone 6: 4.7 inches, 1334×750 pixels
  • iPhone 6 Plus: 5.5 inches, 1920x1080 pixels

Is a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels enough for a 5.5-inch screen? With your head. And don’t believe those who recommend urgently switching to QuadHD displays, which are already available in some Android smartphones - LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The human eye can only distinguish pixels at up to 300 ppi, whereas in the iPhone 6 Plus it is a whopping 401 pixels per inch. The performance race has never led to anything good. The iPhone against the backdrop of top Android gadgets is a striking example of this.

Iron: simply better

It is not customary to talk about technical characteristics in the world of Apple mobile devices. Where have you heard that users different generations iPhones were talked about processors, RAM and, excuse me, overclocking? But you want this, right? Then here is a comparison of two smartphones in the Geekbench iOS application to calculate processor speed:

Yes, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are currently the most powerful smartphones Apple has ever created. They run on the same new generation Apple A8 processor with a clock speed of just (for the modern smartphone world) 1.4 GHz. Feel free to add the M8 coprocessor here, which helps you clearly count the number of steps taken and calories burned. RAM - 1 GB, same as in iPhone 5s. But was it ever not enough? This isn't a Mac.

What's the result? Overall, iOS 8 runs slightly faster on the iPhone 6/6 Plus than on the iPhone 5s. The difference is very small, literally minimal, but it is there. This is traditional Apple magic, when you pick up a new iPhone, after which you no longer want to use the “old” one.

Yes, games load a moment faster, the multitasking menu with thumbnails appears in a second, but this is far from main feature new iPhones. Oh yes, if you are confused by the operation of iOS on a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution, I will say that there are no problems. Both smartphones work almost identically, if you do not take into account minor slowdowns in literally a few games (Real Racing, this one is the most). This is an optimization question that developers need to ask. I played Asphalt 8, updated to work with direct access technology to GPU Metal, Modern Combat 5 and the graphics, I admit, were impressive.

Battery: powerful, but lacking in innovation

I’ll be honest, it’s not easy to understand in two days how the batteries behave in new Apple smartphones. No, it's not even possible. I can say one thing for sure - my iPhone 5s, which I have been using for about 8 months, has held its charge several times worse during this time than both new items that were lying next to each other. Yes, the battery in the iPhone 5s could get “tired” during this period of operation, but the fact remains that in the evening my smartphone lay down to rest with 0% charge, while the iPhone 6 had 30% left, and Plus, it seems, was ready to work even before lunch next day. It had about 55% charge left. Worthy.

The numbers, which can be found on Apple.com, speak for themselves. The iPhone 6 can last 250 hours in standby mode, while the iPhone 6 Plus can last 384 hours in a locked state. The younger model will be able to show you about five films medium length, the eldest - all seven. The indicators are not bad, but not revolutionary. I would really like innovations in mobile batteries, but not this year, unfortunately. Nowadays mobile photography is in fashion and you will definitely like everything here.

Cameras: Where are my megapixels?

There are none. More precisely, there are as many of them as in last year’s model. And in the year before last, and even in the iPhone 4S. You were deceived, set up and pushed with outdated hardware at an exorbitant price. You are wrong.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

Indeed, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have an 8-megapixel camera with an ƒ/2.2 aperture, but with new lenses. One of the most impressive technologies in these cameras is Focus Pixels. This is a phase focusing system that seriously reduces focusing time when the camera moves. The principle of its operation is as follows: you take your iPhone out of your pocket, open the Camera application and begin frantically photographing several objects around you at once, abruptly changing the position of the smartphone. There is no additional focusing, it seems that the camera is reading the image around you immediately after you take out the phone. Forget tap-to-focus—iPhone now does it for you.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

Image quality on high level, minimal soapy scenes when photographing indoors, it's really impressive. This is especially true for the iPhone 6 Plus with its optical system stabilization that can take stunning photos. If you have direct hands, you can create real masterpieces, print them and hang them on the wall.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

Apple also worked on video quality. The cameras in the two new products can shoot FUllHD video at 60 frames per second, while slow-mo videos can now be made in two formats - 120 and 240 frames per second. Together with cinematic stabilization during video shooting, we get the most desired mobile video camera for a real video maniac.

iPhone 6 Plus Features: mini iPad mini

It’s not for nothing that I said above that the iPhone 6 Plus does not seem like just a new smartphone or the second model of this year. This is something new that may soon affect other Apple devices. For example, on the iPad mini. I sincerely don’t understand why a user needs a small tablet with a 7.9-inch screen when there is an iOS smartphone with a 5.5-inch display that is always in their pocket. It is simply created for consuming content in huge quantities - you want to watch movies, play action games and arcade games, surf the Internet through Safari or, for example, do video editing through the iMovie application. This is the ultimate gadget for the active user who is “on the edge.” That is, it is really huge for a phone, but at the same time it is so convenient during use. In addition, Apple took care of the pioneers and made some changes to iOS 8 that are only available on the iPhone 6 Plus.

First, it's landscape mode, like on the iPad. The desktop, icons, content - everything is in a horizontal position. This feature is activated in Settings -> Display and brightness -> View. Here we select the normal mode, where work in a horizontal position is available by default.

If you select the “Zoom” mode, all icons and text will become slightly larger. It’s promising, but it requires support from developers who optimize their software to work in this mode.

Another point is changes in the location of some interface elements in standard applications. For example, Mail and Messages have dual-screen mode enabled, just like on the iPad. This also includes the supposedly improved keyboard, to which quick access buttons for the “Copy, Cut, Paste” functions have been moved, but you need to seriously get used to them. It feels like the system is not perfected. Either the iPhone 6 Plus was released ahead of schedule, or it was simply overlooked.

Unlike other manufacturers of large smartphones, Apple has done a good job of making them more convenient. While competitors are implementing in interfaces complex circuits controls large screens, in Cupertino they simply add one, but useful function. Double tapping (not pressing) the Home button lowers the entire interface of any application so that you can reach the status bar with one finger. Simple and convenient.

There is also a problem with the display of some applications. No, I didn’t notice any pixels, but the software that looked normal on the iPhone 5s screen now looks strange on the 5.5-inch Godzilla. There is a lot of space on the screen, but the interface elements are stretched and look somehow awkward or even clumsy. I think developers are already aware of this nuance and are already reviewing the interfaces of their programs.

About the not so important: boxes and kit

Please note the changes in the appearance of the boxes from the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Now they are completely white without any pictures, except for the model name on the side. The silhouette of a smartphone is embossed on the lid of the box. It looks unusual and unusual. With the kit, everything is much simpler - inside the box everything is the same as what came with the iPhone 5s: EarPods, Lightning cable, charger and a bunch of paper materials with a “clip” to open the SIM slot inside.

What to choose?: instead of conclusions

iPhone 6

The iPhone 6 has changed a lot compared to previous models and is undeniably better. The most popular (and therefore the best, right?) smartphone on the planet has become even better, it is already flying off store shelves, it is being bought, recommended, and taken to countries where there is no Apple Store. This is a definite hit for the next 12 months. The screen is finally larger, but the smartphone is still easy to use, an improved camera, an NFC receiver with support for Apple Pay (it doesn’t work for us) and new design. I don't have a single word for you against buying an iPhone 6. Except for the iPhone 6 Plus.

iPhone 6 Plus

For the first time in the history of the iPhone, we have to choose between two iPhones - a powerful one and a second powerful new product, but with a larger screen. The latter has its own charisma, it attracts with its unusualness and magnificent screen, which in any case will always be with you. It is indeed very difficult to choose, but I can recommend something to you. Don’t even hope to come to the store and make a choice right away - it’s impossible!

Turn it in your hands, take a closer look, spend an hour there, but think through all the scenarios for using your future iPhone, but don’t buy anything. A few days of rest, the information will be digested and you will get the result - you will definitely be drawn to one of them.

Without a doubt Apple company takes first place in producing the most aesthetically beautiful and, first of all, high-quality goods. Having been on the electronics market since 1976, they still win the hearts of people with their unsurpassed design and functionality, without forgetting the ergonomics of the product. Due to the fact that the company produces high-quality products, keeping pace with innovative technologies, they were able to become the flagships in electronics, earning themselves an unsurpassed reputation.

One of the most popular smartphones of our time produced by Apple is the iPhone. And the most popular iPhone model is the iPhone 6 plus. It is so popular because of its sophisticated design and innovative internal content.

About iPhone 6 plus

This line is created for lovers of wide screens and thin bodies. There have also been significant changes in the design of the phone; it is already significantly different from the “five”.

The iPhone 6 kit includes:

Characteristic

Unlike the more standard iPhone 6, the Plus version is more suitable for shooting and photography. The impressive size does not at all interfere with ease of use, but rather, on the contrary, makes it more convenient. Many users, having switched to such dimensions, said that they no longer wanted to return to the previous ones. standard sizes and the phone is quite comfortable.

This phone is designed for large hands, but after a couple of days of use, people with small hands noted that it was very comfortable and easy to get used to. The main materials from which it is made are aluminum alloy and glass. The use of such materials in the phone case means that if you are clumsy enough, you will need to purchase a case so that while using the phone you do not accidentally drop it.

Design

The iPhone 6 Plus has four colors: space gray, rose gold, gold and silver, the choice of color is given to you upon purchase. On the sides there are volume keys, which are located quite high, but this is quite convenient. The rounded shape, material, size and quality make this smartphone individual and unsurpassed.

On the back of the phone there is an image of the company logo and two stripes that act as antennas - all this is succinctly intertwined with the design. The camera located on the back of the smartphone protrudes slightly, but when using the case, the camera will be in its place. By placing the phone on a horizontal surface and pressing it, you will not feel any vibrations or wobbles. This iPhone was made perfect.

Phone dimensions

The dimensions of this model are significantly different from the standard “six” and even more so from the “five”. This model is not a standard product from Apple; the company previously stated that it produces smartphones that are comfortable to use with one hand, but now they have released the first of a fairly wide-screen phone that will use two hands. 6 Plus has following sizes housings:

  • diagonal 5.5 in cm;
  • length – 15.81 centimeters;
  • width, namely the horizontal side of the smartphone when it is standard arrangement– 7.78 cm or 3.06 inches;
  • thickness - 7.1 mm or 0.2 inches;
  • phone weight - 172 g;
  • the volume calculated using the data provided by the manufacturer is 87.73 cubic cm.

Battery

Compared to previous versions, this iPhone received a fairly large battery, the capacity of which is 2915 mAh. Basically, all modern flagships have lithium-ion and lithium-polymer-ion batteries; this smartphone uses a lithium-polymer battery (Li-polymer), which holds a charge longer than the previous one and is non-removable, as on all models.

With such a battery, you can talk in 2G mode for 24 hours, and leave it in the background for 384 hours (16 days). Watching a video in HD quality, the phone will be discharged only after 7 hours and 30 minutes, and listening to music in the player while it is in the background, its performance will be lost only after 80 hours. True, when playing games, the smartphone will lose charge much faster.

Screen

The screen created by the company is almost perfect. The iPhone 6 Plus has an IPS matrix, which has a maximum speed of up to 519 cd/m2. The phone also has an HD screen resolution of 1920x1080, with a pixel density of 401 pixels per 1 inch. This screen also has such viewing angles that we can call them maximum - even with the greatest tilt of the smartphone, the color rendition does not change. Thanks to this, the screen resolution can be called top-end compared to other phones.

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus also has automatic screen brightness adjustment, so even on the brightest day you can easily use the device. This device uses 24-bit color transmission, so maximum quantity shades that can be displayed on the screen - 16777216 - this is a fairly large indicator. Another definite plus is the screen’s scratch resistance. The display itself has an area of 68.02% of the area of the entire phone, dimensions 6.85 cm x 12.18 cm, respectively, and a diagonal of 5.5 inches.

So why is it almost perfect? The manufacturer has made every effort to produce the screen. But not all applications and games are designed for this resolution; therefore, in unoptimized ones, the problem of pixelation or “graininess” of the image may arise.

Camera

The iPhone camera has always been one of the main advantages of this phone. Even in earlier phone models, the camera was always one step ahead of its counterparts. This time Apple did not change its habits and again released an advanced camera. iPhone 6 plus is equipped with two cameras - main and front. We will tell you further how many megapixels they have and the characteristics of each of the two.

Main camera

The main camera on the iPhone 6 plus also has excellent properties:

  • 8 megapixel camera with a phase focusing system, which was not present in the iPhone 6;
  • maximum image resolution – 3264×2448 pixels

One of the main components of the camera is the photosensor and optics. The iPhone 6 Plus uses a Sony ISX014 Exmor RS photo sensor, which measures 0.24 inches, with a pixel size of 0.001471mm, and the smaller the pixel, the better the resolution and image quality. Light sensitivity or ISO determines the camera's performance in low-light conditions . This indicator in this camera is 32 - 2000. This device also uses a double LED flash.

Front camera

The secondary or front camera has a CMOS photo sensor and an f2.2 aperture. With these parameters, the maximum image resolution will be 1.23 megapixels.

When shooting video with the main camera, the maximum video resolution will be 1920×1080 pixels at 30 or 60 fps; and when shooting with the front camera - 1280 x 720 using no more than 30 frames per second. There is also a slow motion option.

Description and options of photo and video cameras

  • Self-timer;
  • Exposure compensation;
  • ISO setting;
  • Face recognition;
  • Touch Focus;
  • Panoramic photography;
  • Geographical tags;
  • HDR shooting;
  • Optical image stabilization;
  • Tracking autofocus;
  • Continuous shooting;
  • Digital zoom.

Audio

There is a built-in speaker inside this device, and headphones are also used instead of a microphone. For headphones, a standardized 3.5mm input is used over time. The formats supported by the iPhone 6 plus are MP3, WAV, MP4A, eAAC+, AAC, Apple Lossless. This line of smartphones does not have a radio.

Technical Parameters

Finally, we will tell you about the most important thing about any phone - its “stuffing”. Not many users understand this, but quite a lot depends on it. Here are the iPhone 6 plus and the technical specifications of its internals.

operating system

The software used by this system is either iOS 8 or iOS9. The current version of the software contains a user-friendly interface and many functional programs have been updated for comfortable use.

CPU

The iPhone 6 Plus is powered by a dual-core 64-bit A8 processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz, as well as a Power VR GX 6450 graphics processor, which has four cores

Built-in and RAM

The sixth iPhone uses LPDDR3 RAM with 1GB of memory. The frequency of this RAM is from 1100 MHz to 1300 MHz, which will allow your applications to “fly”.

The built-in memory of this model is offered in several options when purchasing a phone, that is, you can choose the volume that suits you best - 16 gigabytes, 64 gigabytes, 128 gigabytes.

In addition to the memory that is inside your phone, the sixth iPhone is also equipped with another 5 GB of memory on the cloud, if someone thinks that this space is not enough, you can expand it for an additional fee by 20, 200 and 500 GB

Mobile communications

The phone uses Nano-Sim for one slot.

Other characteristics

Does iPhone 6 pluse contain any other additional features? Undoubtedly.

  • Location determination;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • Bluetooth 4.0;
  • USB 2.0;
  • Browser;
  • Proximity sensor;
  • Light sensor;
  • Fingerprint scanner;
  • Pedometer;
  • Barometer;
  • gyroscope;
  • Compass;
  • Accelerometer;

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have asked for a faster horse,” Henry Ford once said, and Steve Jobs often repeated this quote, especially in relation to focus groups. And as we know, he really didn’t really like to take into account the opinions of customers. But times are changing, today Apple is the company of Tim Cook, who has his own vision of the future, and is gradually abandoning the legacy left by Jobs. The release of the iPhone 6 Plus, a smartphone that is inconvenient to use with one hand, is a clear confirmation of this. After all, the hero of the review is indeed a very atypical smartphone for Apple, which not only ignored, but also ridiculed the phablet market. Now the company itself will have to take the rap in front of customers, explaining to them that a very large iPhone is good. But is it really good? I will try to answer this question in my review of the iPhone 6 Plus.

The team of Jony Ive, who is responsible for the design of all Apple products, did not separate the design of the 6 Plus into a separate task, and simply stretched it to a size that would fit a 5.5-inch display.

And if we ignore the size of the smartphone, it looks good. Apple managed to create a long-lasting design that will be relevant in a year if the company decides to release the iPhone 6s Plus. At the same time, even the plastic strips on the back cover, which I didn’t like so much in the iPhone 6, don’t look so alien here. In this regard, the dimensions of the case still play a role; the plastic dissolves against the background of the metal.

The materials in the iPhone 6 Plus are excellent. The front panel of the smartphone is covered with protective glass, and the sides and back are made of a single piece of anodized aluminum. The only plastic elements here are the strips at the top and bottom of the back cover, which are necessary for the normal operation of the smartphone's antennas.

There are not the slightest complaints about the build quality, the iPhone 6 Plus was assembled very well, all the elements of the case fit tightly. As for the possibility of bending a smartphone, it will be difficult to do this unintentionally. The body of the 6 Plus is durable and requires above average force to bend it. And if the device is somehow bent in a jeans pocket, then it will most likely be due to the fact that the owner could have made a mistake when choosing their size.

Ease of use

Despite not having the largest diagonal for smartphones, the iPhone 6 Plus really seems huge. The frame around the display is to blame. On the sides they are still of an acceptable size, but at the top and bottom they increase significantly. Apple designers needed to accommodate a mechanical Home button on the front panel, so they symmetrically increased the bezels around the screen.

This has led to the fact that using a smartphone with one hand is very inconvenient. On the one hand, the smoothed corners of the case allow the iPhone 6 Plus to fit better in the hand, but on the other hand, if you try to reach the top of the display with your thumb, either right or left, you can easily drop the smartphone.

Reachability feature that lowers top part the screen to the middle, it doesn’t help, you just forget about it. However, iPhone 6 Plus owners will most likely use it very often.

To understand that there is something wrong with the ergonomics of the iPhone 6 Plus, just look at the mechanical screen power key and volume buttons. They are located very high and are difficult to reach if you hold the 6 Plus with both your right and left hands.

Apple doesn't seem to have really thought about how to make a large smartphone more convenient for everyday use. But other manufacturers are constantly working on this. But Apple simply decided that making the iPhone 6 bigger would be enough. And this is very disappointing, because before the company, when entering new markets, always tried to show others how to do it right. With the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple designers didn't even try.

As a result, we can say that in terms of ergonomics, the 6 Plus is more similar to an iPad mini than an iPhone. It’s convenient to use a smartphone with two hands, just like a tablet, but not always with one hand. Cases can improve the situation a little, at least they will make the body of the 6 Plus less slippery, but large sizes however, they won’t go anywhere.

Display

Like the 6 Plus, the 6 Plus uses an IPS matrix with dual-domain pixel technology, but with a diagonal of 5.5 inches and a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

This is the best screen Apple has ever used on a smartphone, and certainly one of the best on the market. Using Full HD resolution with such a diagonal allows the display to accommodate 401 dots per inch, which creates a very clear image. The iPhone 6 Plus screen has excellent color reproduction and viewing angles. The latter is achieved through dual-domain pixel technology, which avoids display colors changing at an angle.

Performance and autonomy

Despite the higher display resolution of the iPhone 6 Plus, using the same platform as the smaller model, the smartphone's performance remains the same. It is at the same level as in the iPhone 6. But the increase compared to the iPhone 5s is really significant; in synthetic tests it varies from 28% to 57%.

Let me remind you that in the new iPhones, Apple uses a system on the A8 chip with a 2-core processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz, 4-core PowerVR GX6650 graphics and 1 GB of RAM. Visually, the iPhone 6 Plus is a very fast smartphone. The interface works without the slightest delay, and only in third-party applications do they sometimes manifest themselves. The effect is that the amount of RAM is not very large, as by modern standards. This is clearly seen in the Safari browser, which cannot keep several heavy tabs open at once and is forced to reload them. This is not so critical if you do not need to constantly switch between programs and tabs in the browser. After all, in general the system and programs work very quickly.

The internal memory in the iPhone 6 Plus can be 16 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB. The situation is the same as with the iPhone 6; purchasing the 16 GB version is the least attractive and is suitable only for unassuming users. Considering that there is about 11 GB of memory available out of the box, and at the same time it cannot be expanded, you can expect to install and use a limited number of applications. After all, everyone needs a place to install and store temporary files. A way out of the situation could be support microSD memory cards, but then no one would buy the 64 GB and 128 GB versions.

The autonomy of the iPhone 6 Plus is one of the big advantages of the smartphone, since Apple managed to achieve truly impressive results. With a battery capacity of 2915 mAh, the smartphone can withstand one and a half days of very active use, and in a less loaded mode it can easily last two days.

Interface

The iPhone 6 Plus has the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, called iOS 8. It is practically no different from what was described in the iPhone 6 review, but there are still some changes. Apple decided that the enlarged display should not be empty, so extra bed is now used in horizontal mode.

For example, icons on the main screen are rotated according to the position of the smartphone, which is not yet the case even in the iPad, and an additional panel appears on the right in mail and messages in horizontal mode. Larger display with more high resolution offers a lot of opportunities to improve the iOS interface. Unfortunately, not all application developers have yet managed to adapt to this new policy Apple. But in general, the trend is positive; the company did the right thing by not just increasing the interface along with the display, but thinking about how the additional space could be used.

Cameras

The main camera in the iPhone 6 Plus is 8-megapixel iSight with a six-lens lens, f/2.2 aperture, infrared filter, optical stabilization, autofocus and dual True Tone flash.

As with the iPhone 6, Apple used a larger sensor instead of larger megapixels, as well as phase detection autofocus. So, compared to the iPhone 5s, the camera does take better photos, but it's not as big a bump in quality as you might expect. The essence of the improvements is slightly different. The camera now focuses really quickly and can shoot slow-motion video at 240 frames per second. This provides users with additional options for creating interesting photos and videos that weren't previously available on iPhone.

Thus, it is worth noting that the camera in the iPhone 6 Plus is one of the best today. It starts up quickly, focuses quickly, and takes not great, but good photos that will satisfy the needs of most iPhone users.

In the end

The iPhone 6 Plus makes a strange impression: on the one hand, this is an iPhone whose display has grown significantly, which means more information can fit on it, but on the other hand, Apple’s detached attitude towards the problem of ergonomics is frankly upsetting. Bottom line, when you're playing games or watching a movie on the 6 Plus, you'll enjoy how nice it is to have a smartphone with a large display, but when it comes to everyday tasks, it's very difficult to operate the device with one hand. I don’t know what audience the iPhone 6 Plus was intended for, but it’s clearly not a smartphone for the average iPhone user. This does not mean that it is bad, on the contrary, Apple released a device with a good display, performance, camera and battery life. It’s just intended more for those who would like an iPad, but had no desire to buy a tablet in addition to a smartphone.

Last Friday our editorial team received a long-awaited visit - iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. After a long acquaintance and no less lengthy testing, and today it’s the turn of his “big brother” with 16 GB of internal memory on board. So, let's go.

iPhone 6 Plus has become the largest iPhone in the history of Apple's smartphone line. What happened was what loyal fans of the Apple corporation were so afraid of - Cupertino was finally ready to release the so-called “shovel” (this is the title that most five, six, seven and even eight-inch smartphones on Android received). We will now find out whether Apple managed to move away from all these stereotypes.

Due to its impressive size, the device is 60 grams heavier than the iPhone 5s, but due to the incredibly thin body (only 7.1 mm versus 7.6 mm for the previous iPhone), this heaviness is practically not felt. At first, the iPhone 6 Plus does not feel very comfortable in your hand - you need to get used to it, and addiction is achieved within a couple of days.

The iPhone 6 Plus fits noticeably worse in the hand than the iPhone 6 - not surprising, since the gadget is 10 millimeters wider and 20 millimeters longer. It feels like you're holding two iPhone 5s attached to each other at the same time. Even so, the iPhone 6 Plus doesn't feel as big as some Android smartphones with the same screen size. Call it “Apple magic” or whatever you want, but it really is.

When creating the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple understood that it needed a number of advantages over its competitors, because the latter had already managed to occupy the niche of smartphones with large screens. And although the smartphone’s hardware (which we’ll talk about later) is inferior to modern flagships from Samsung or HTC, the speed and smoothness of its operation is not satisfactory.

But let's not talk in vain - let's see what Apple decided to surprise us with this time.

The iPhone 6 Plus box is almost exactly the same as the iPhone 6 - the same white box with the iPhone inscription on the sides, a little information about the device on the back surface and a raised image of the smartphone on the front side. You can find out that this is the “plus” version only by the size of the box, which is significantly larger than that of the iPhone 6 (or by the sticker on the back).

Inside we are greeted by the iPhone 6 Plus itself, which for now can be carefully pulled out and put aside by pulling a special tab, a white envelope with instructions, two traditional “apples” and a paperclip for opening the SIM card tray, EarPods headphones (no, not Beats yet ), a Lightning cable with one-way USB and a charger already adapted for Russian outlets.

Since Apple cannot yet surprise you with the packaging of the box, let’s take a closer look at the “giant” itself.

Design

iPhone 6 Plus is made of glass and anodized aluminum - a material that makes the smartphone impossible to leave alone for a minute, even despite its impressive size. It is incredibly pleasant to the touch, and those same white stripes on the back of the smartphone do not spoil the impression of the device.

On the left side of the iPhone 6 Plus there are volume buttons and a vertical rocker to mute the sound, and on the right side there is a SIM card tray and a button to lock the screen and turn off the smartphone. With such a diagonal display, it is not surprising that it is now located on the side.

The back panel, as I already said, is made neatly (with the exception of the “apple” that is too sensitive to fingerprints). Some may not be satisfied with the 8-megapixel protruding camera with optical stabilization, but it protrudes only one millimeter from the body. It’s quite tolerable, especially since after a couple of days it doesn’t bother me at all.

The bottom edge is completely identical to the panel in the iPhone 6 - a connector for the Lightning cable and a speaker grille.

Screen

iPhone 6 Plus became the first representative of the iPhone line to have a full screen with Full HD resolution (1920x1080), although Apple called it Retina HD. The 5.5-inch display is to blame for this - in combination with this resolution, it produces an excellent picture.

The colors are rich, the text is incredibly clear - we already heard all this in the iPhone 6 review. But I would like to separately note the color reproduction of the iPhone 6 Plus. None of Apple's current smartphones can boast such an excellent display. Yes, he's really cool.

The screen contrast is 1300:1, and the number of pixels per inch (ppi) has reached a record 401 for an iPhone. It also features dual-domain pixels for a wider viewing angle. And the oleophobic coating on the front panel is resistant to fingerprints.

Camera

The new 8-megapixel camera of the iPhone 6 Plus has become noticeably better compared to the iPhone 5s, and now has support for Focus Pixels technology and optical image stabilization. The latter is not even available in the iPhone 6.

I was pleased with the ability to record HD video with a resolution of 1080p at a frequency of 30 or 60 fps, as well as shoot slow-mo video at a frequency of 120 or 240 fps. The improved face recognition function copes with its task perfectly even on long distance.

And, of course, you can’t ignore the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. In the iPhone 6 Plus it began to work noticeably better, and using it for authorization in third-party applications on iOS 8 is no longer possible. sheer pleasure.

Hardware and tests

On board the iPhone 6 Plus is a new A8 processor with 64-bit architecture, an M8 motion coprocessor, 1 GB of RAM, an NFC chip (currently used only for payments in the Apple Pay payment system), an improved LTE chip and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

Among the wireless standards, it is worth noting Bluetooth 4.0, LTE with expanded frequency support and GLONASS support.

In performance tests conducted using the Geekbench 3 utility, the iPhone 6 Plus produced almost the same result as the iPhone 6. Not surprising, since both smartphones are equipped with the same A8 processors with a frequency of 1.38 GHz.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to conduct a test using the AnTuTu Benchmark utility on the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 - the application simply crashed after 50% of the work was completed.

The “one-handed” device control mode deserves special attention: by touching the “Home” button twice, the screen will move down slightly, and you can easily reach the top icons.

The performance of games and applications on the iPhone 6 Plus is admirable. Metal technology, increasing the quality of graphics, makes gameplay on your device for a truly unforgettable experience.

The smartphone is equipped with a battery capacity of almost 3 thousand mAh, which is almost twice as much as that of the iPhone 5s. With such a battery, you are guaranteed a full day of active use of the device, free from the “slavery” of an outlet.

Flaws

Every smartphone, be it the iPhone or the Galaxy Edge, has its drawbacks. iPhone 6 Plus is very sensitive to falls. Due to the display smoothly flowing into the side edges, the latter is extremely sensitive to any falls. Hence the chips and cracks on the glass - there is no sapphire coating yet.

I already talked about 1 GB of RAM in my review of the iPhone 6, but I won’t be too lazy to mention it now. A smartphone like the iPhone 6 Plus clearly doesn't have enough RAM, although you're unlikely to notice it during use.

No matter how much I praise this smartphone, it is still big. It’s uncomfortable to carry in your pocket (it just sticks out), and it’s awkward to hold in your hand if you don’t have long fingers. And it looks quite big near the ear.

Editorial opinion

iPhone 6 Plus indeed good smartphone, but not for everyone. It is unlikely that a wide range of buyers will appreciate such a large smartphone screen diagonal, which has seriously increased its size. But if you were suddenly looking for a replacement for your iPad mini or dreamed of a hybrid smartphone and tablet from Apple, you got it.

The iPhone 6 Plus is great for gaming, watching movies and TV shows, chatting on the Internet, but personally, the 4.7 inches in the iPhone 6 are quite enough for me. The iPhone 6 Plus is definitely a smartphone that takes some getting used to. And the results of this addiction are unlikely to disappoint you.

We thank the Macov.net online store for kindly providing the iPhone 6 Plus for review. You can purchase a smartphone on the official website of the store.

The other day we had our first acquaintance with the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, after which we general outline learned about the features of the device. But it was decided not to stop there. Traditionally for the laboratory, the website of our readers awaited a comprehensive study of the “apple giant”.

However, it was impossible not to do this. After all, the “tablet phone” made by Apple in itself is inevitably perceived as an unusual and interesting phenomenon.

Many users were waiting for this, and only the screen size stopped them from switching to the iOS platform and Apple smartphones. Others, on the contrary, are adherents of the company's proprietary compact devices and cannot accept the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. And a separate category of consumers does not consider the iPhone at all as a full-fledged and worthy device due to its closed nature software, cost or other reasons.

One thing is for sure - Apple is changing its view of products and is trying to win new fans, even at the expense of partially losing the old ones. Was it worth it? Thanks to the First Store company, the laboratory was able to clarify this issue using the example of a version with a memory capacity of 64 GB.

Let us recall some brief information about the new model. Apple iPhone 6 Plus is available in three body colors: space gray, silver and gold. The smartphone is equipped with 16, 64 and 128 GB of memory; Apple refused to release a version with 32 GB. Price tags at the start of sales were set at 37,000, 42,000 and 47,000 rubles, respectively. At these official prices, the iPhone 6 Plus will be available in Russia starting September 26th. As usual, “gray” deliveries will allow you to be one of the first to receive a new product, or save your hard-earned money a little later.
