Design of a living room with panoramic windows in an apartment and a house

Residents of typical apartments often complain about the lack of natural light due to small windows and a closed loggia. The inhabitants of new buildings are more fortunate: their apartments, as a rule, are equipped with large windows, or even panoramic windows. What can we say about the owners of private households, who have the opportunity to glaze at least the entire building!

But how to properly decorate a room with glass walls? We propose to deal with this together using the example of a living room design with panoramic windows.

The feasibility of installing panoramic windows

Floor-to-ceiling windows are often referred to as French windows, since they were first used in housing construction in France. At first glance, such a constructive solution looks very modern and stylish; but what are the pitfalls behind the fashion trend?

The undeniable advantages of panoramic windows include:

A striking view from the window, whether it is natural landscapes (forest, river, garden near the house) or an urban picture;

Plenty of natural light, which makes the living room - even if small - brighter and more spacious;

Exclusive setting.

Among the shortcomings of French windows, first of all, the high price is distinguished. Indeed, the manufacture and installation of packages on the entire wall requires a lot of expenses, which, however, justify themselves. Glass walls have high thermal conductivity; this means that in summer the room will get too hot (especially if the windows face south), and in winter it will quickly lose heat (especially if the windows face north). In view of this, there is a need for more intensive heating, which will certainly entail additional costs.

Another point that causes difficulties is the limited furnishing options. Unlike a typical layout, in the interior of a living room with a panoramic window, it will not be possible to arrange objects around the entire perimeter. By cluttering up the space by the window, you can simply spoil the opening landscape.

The problem with the thermal conductivity of windows can be solved by installing special energy-saving glasses. The most reliable option is vacuum double-glazed windows with low thermal conductivity. An alternative option is to use an energy-saving film.

Options for arranging furniture in the living room

When designing a living room with panoramic windows, it is recommended to pay special attention to zoning. Due to the presence of a glass wall (or two), the layout of the room has its own distinctive characteristics. Although the options are limited, creating coziness is possible without difficulty.

The most advantageous way of arranging objects is with the letter P. The U-shaped layout provides for the installation of furniture along the walls; sitting on a sofa or armchair facing the window, the owners have the opportunity to revel in the view from the window and at the same time communicate with family and friends.

Another furnishing option is a soft corner with a tea table in the center of the room, and shelving, cabinets and cabinets against the walls.

The restrictions do not imply a ban on furnishing the area near the French windows. Here you can put frameless chairs, rocking chairs, banquettes, from which it will be pleasant to admire the panorama. At the same time, if necessary, such furniture can be deployed to the center, which will facilitate communication with guests. The space near the windows can be occupied by a piano (if space permits), a multimedia installation, a telescope, or an original sculpture.

Decoration of panoramic windows

Natural lighting eliminates the need to connect additional light sources for remote corners of the room. However, in the summer, the direct rays of the sun will heat the room too much. Moreover, with the onset of twilight, everything that happens in the room becomes the property of third parties. “Clothes” for windows will help protect your personal space from sultry rays and prying eyes.

Naturally, panoramic windows in the design of the living room will not fit classic design options - for example, curtains, curtains with ruffles, flounces, lambrequins. The best option for decorating is the use of translucent curtains, light tulle or roller blinds.

In order to simplify the window covering, it is recommended to equip the packages with electric sliding systems. If the window attire simply does not fit into the interior, you can stick tinting on the glass, or even use chameleon glass, which changes the degree of transparency depending on the light.
