Greetings colleagues!
I noticed that here it is customary for us to share our best practices, including on organizing the workplace. I’ll make my contribution, so to speak, in case it comes in handy for someone.
The idea of a shelf to be painted and the total dominance of drawers, jars, boxes have long been pushing for the organization of order on the table; many solutions produced by companies have been studied, but as usual, everything has its drawbacks (in my opinion). Having mastered AutoCAD, namely 3D, I decided to first experimentally sketch a model for my own needs.

When designing, I was guided by such parameters as
- maximum compactness,
- calculation for only frequently used chemicals (in general, it makes no sense to keep all the available ones on the table, I will also design a cabinet organizer, like the excellent option assembled by a colleague)
- possibility of easy transportation (planned to move from a rented apartment)
- inaccessibility of chemistry and tools for children’s little hands, I wanted everything to be closed and little son couldn't get to dangerous items. I only use water-based acrylic at home also because I have a small child.
The optimal plywood thickness was chosen to be 4mm.
Holes for jars are accepted in the following quantities:
- 26mm (Vallejo) 50 pcs.
- 36mm (Tamiya, vallejo pigments, etc.) 27 pcs.
- 46x46 square for Tamiya glue 1 pc.
- 60mm (I don’t remember what I made them for:() 3 pcs.
Here's the first concept:

I had to give up the tools sticking out vertically, I installed an inclined shelf, which turned out to be unexpectedly convenient, and nothing falls out and everything is clearly visible. For small items there is a recess at the top above the inclined shelf. Mastered free space inside the shelf, designing drawers, one of which is for jars, one flat and long for brushes, and one on the right for tubes and oils.
Then I began to resolve the issue of blocking access to content. All kinds of doors and flaps disappeared immediately, because they added bulkiness to open form, clung to the hoses of an airbrush, drill, etc. I took a closer look at the commercially available plastic furniture blinds. On the website of the nearest furniture store, the dimensions of the main parts were found, namely the blinds themselves (sold in strips of 2 m, cut into pieces that are connected to engage each other), a straight guide (also 2 m each) and rotating corners, which I cut, t .To. My rotation angles are different from 90 degrees. According to my measurements, the material came out to be only 5 euros

I calculated the heights and slope so that the roller shutter would not cling to the Vallejo jars. And in order for the roller shutter to be completely hidden when opened, it was necessary to provide a double bottom and a double back wall, which can be seen in the view on the left

After making all the changes, increasing the height of the shelf, this model was obtained

Then I “disassembled” the model into parts, laying them out as compactly as possible for the CNC, preparing a file

and started searching laser cutting. At that moment I was in Estonia, where they offered me some astronomical prices starting from 120 euros for cutting according to my file. However, I found enterprising guys in St. Petersburg who cut out my set for only 1150 rubles!!! Delivery to Tallinn cost me only 850 rubles.
The size of the compactly laid parts was approximately A3 format, about 7 cm in height. The parcel after opening and is already slightly shaken (the A3 model mat is visible)

Assembly using PVA glue took about 20 minutes

Well, the final version after filling with treasures and installing the roller shutter

Based on the results of use, I can say that there are both pros and cons. Such a shelf takes up a minimum of space, but is not spacious enough, and solves the problem of slowly building one model at a time. Allows you to take it “under your arm” without any preparation and transport it, for example, on a business trip. For six months now, something more “revolutionary” has been brewing in my head and sooner or later it will be brought to life, with a stationary placement of a reel of Tamiya tape, a more thoughtful mount for the airbrush (perhaps I’ll install a washing station), I would like a mount for paper towels as in the branded versions, division by type of tool, some kind of storage for sandpaper, I will also use plexiglass... I will definitely additionally design a floor stand (maybe I’ll put a compressor there). But that, as they say, is another story.
I hope someone will find my experience useful, and I also hope for your, dear colleagues, comments and ideas for optimization and adding “tricks” to such a design.
Thank you for your attention!

After some time, the modeller’s workplace began to be visible. Now it was a matter of finishing. On " a quick fix"I sketched out a sketch of the finish in Photoshop.

I bought all the fittings and finishing elements from furniture store. I will not describe the finishing process; this has already received a lot of attention on blogs dedicated to furniture production.

So, after a month and a half, I did what I wanted!

We can say that I received a two-in-one product. I united computer desk and a modeling workplace. I think for ours small apartments- this is a clear plus. And just having a computer at hand is always convenient, you can display and necessary drawings and photographs...generally useful. Directly above the workplace there are two fluorescent lamps with a power of 15 watts each. The lamps are made on a ball mount, which allows for precise adjustment. The switching on of each lamp is independent.

I placed a magnetic board right in front of me. Made it from simple sheet iron, for a more aesthetic appearance I covered it with decorative film. When assembling the next model, it is very convenient to place instructions, photos, etc. on it using magnets.

On the left I placed shelves with paints. How happy I was moving them from the box to a new location. =) By right hand Removers, filters, glue supplies, etc. were placed away from me. Under the magnetic board I placed a shelf for pigments and made a small rack for pencils, markers and other small items.

About a year ago I first noticed a modular modeller’s workstation from WinModels. This modular system allows you to assemble and select various organizers that can be arranged into unified system, with which you can restore order and organize the storage of tools, model chemistry, various small things and other similar things. The modules are quite universal, so if you wish, you can select them for almost any need or make a custom module.

Part 1. Organizer module for tools 600 mm (article: MWP-0010-13)

In this part I want to talk about one of the modules with which I plan to start organizing my modeller’s workplace. This is organizer number 13. Organizer size: 600*150*195. Material: birch plywood 4 mm, organic glass 3 mm. The organizer consists of 61 parts.

The organizer is packed in a thick cardboard box, quite tightly and securely. So if someone wants to order an organizer by mail, there is no need to worry too much about its safety; it is quite difficult to damage anything here.

There are instructions inside, which are located on two A4 sheets. It contains a short introduction on how to collect, what to use, general recommendations on assembly (in particular, it is recommended to use glue during assembly for more reliable fixation of connections), and then step by step instructions with pictures, which at first glance is quite understandable.

I assembled everything according to the instructions, there were no problems. It is not very easy to assemble, but it does not cause any special difficulties or problems. It took me about a couple of hours. I glued some of the elements with regular PVA glue. Although I note that the grooves hold the entire organizer quite securely and without glue. But the manufacturer still recommends assembling organizers using glue.
I put everything in its place. Let's see what I can fit in it.

  1. There is a large compartment for brushes, spatulas, collet knives, markers, and there is also a section for drills. There are still many empty places left, I will fill them later as needed.
  2. Here I perfectly included various containers with alcohol, white spirit, Pacific88 thinner, vodka, PVA glue, super glue, toothpicks and napkins.
  3. The pull-out compartment holds Mr. varnishes. Hobby, epoxylin, washes from Pacific88. This compartment is also great for jars from Wilder.
  4. In the middle on top you can conveniently store pliers, side cutters, wire cutters, and scissors. I also had three Tamiya cans fit here very well (two with glue, one with Mark Fit for decals). And here is a mini saw for plastic and a set of drills.
  5. In the niche below I placed various tweezers and a ruler.
  6. I put palettes and paint mixing bowls in the bottom drawer.
  7. On the right side of the top of the organizer, Pacific88 Aero paint cans are perfectly placed. Cans of AK, Vallejo paints and cans of Tamiya enamels. As you can see it fits enough large number. This part of the organizer can be used for other needs.
  8. In this drawer I have sets with drills, a mini-drill, putties and various files for processing plastic.
  9. Another pull-out compartment contains various small things: toothpicks, super glue, spare blades for a collet knife, razor blades, punches and syringe needles.
  10. I put it in this box oil paints from Wilder. Quite a lot fit, and there was still room left to add more later.
  11. I put it in the last box cotton swabs and lighters.

As you can see, this organizer allows you to place a large number of useful things at hand. All this is quite compact and accessible. I was completely satisfied with the organizer and plan to purchase additional modules in the future.

Part 2. Kit for assembling stocks for BTT models in scales 1:72, 1:48, 1:35

Another product for the convenience of modellers is stocks for the hull and turret of tanks and other armored vehicles.

Description from the manufacturer's website:
“The set includes four 4mm plywood plates. with laser cutting elements, two 6 mm plywood bases, fasteners consisting of screws, washers and nuts, several elements made of plexiglass, silicone and a neodymium magnet 20x5 N48. In the center there is a metal platform, along the perimeter there are 4 silicone legs. The bathtub is pressed against the legs with a magnet. Lying on silicone legs, it fits very tightly and is extremely difficult to move. You can also press smaller elements - the white platform with silicone legs is removable. To prevent the model from sliding on the bench, the set contains silicone pads, and silicone legs also fix the bench itself on the table surface.”

AND detailed video review from me:

Part 3. Visiting WINMODELS: making a custom paint organizer

A short video tour of the workshop, in which you can see with your own eyes the process of making paintable organizers.

These organizers are made on the basis of the standard one, which is in stock, but taking into account the characteristics of my workplace. Namely, the height was reduced by one row + back side has technological cutouts for door hinges. As a result, they fit perfectly into my closet, significantly relieving the free space, and now all the necessary paints are at hand.

p.s. If you haven’t found an organizer of suitable size or configuration, contact the WinModels workshop, they will make it according to your dimensions without any problems.

Part 4. Universal jig for track kits from WinModels (WIM-GT-01).

Information from the manufacturer's website:

“A kit for assembling a jig for tracks of tracked vehicle models.
The jig is suitable for assembling metal and plastic tracks of all sizes.
Track pressure plates have big scam along the width of the tracks and, if necessary (fixing the metal tracks with half-pins), are removed to access the holes on the side.

Set includes:
21 elements made of birch plywood 4 and 6 mm.
metal fastener
4 elements made of plexiglass 3 mm.
4 silicone feet.
External dimensions: 205x120x30”

I would like to add that the device is very convenient and greatly simplifies the process of working with type-setting tracks. In my video review you can see examples of working with plastic (T-34, Tiger I, Tiger II) and metal (T-34-85, BT-7) tracks from different manufacturers.
