How to assemble a door handle with a latch. How to remove a lock from a door: disassemble the round interior lock, door handle with latch, cylinder device, video

Broken door handle interior door There are two types. Most often, when you press the handle, it simply scrolls, the door latch does not react to movement and the door does not open. Less often, the spring inside breaks, the handle sags lifelessly and no longer returns to the horizontal position.

Whichever option you encounter, to solve the problem, the door handle must first be disassembled and removed. The sequence of work depends on the design and features of the device of a particular model. Therefore, before we begin describing the technology for removing and disassembling the handle, let's look at what parts it consists of.

Door handle design

The photo below shows the design of the simplest door handle.

The first is the handle itself (in our case, a push handle). A plastic ring is attached to it, which ensures a tight fit of the handle to the base. It is also called a “rosette”, decorative flange or strip. There is a return spring inside it, which guarantees the stability of the horizontal position of the handle.

The next two elements are the travel stop and the locking ring. Their task is to prevent the handle from scrolling further than the required trajectory. All these components are sequentially located on the rod (Square in the image) and secured with a locking screw. The rod, in turn, is inserted into the locking mechanism and drives the latch.

The next photo shows the disassembled handle on the socket with a little more complex design some details.

Having understood the names and purpose of each of the elements, let’s move on to the sequence of removing the handle from the door and disassembling it.

Step-by-step instructions for performing the work

  1. First of all, remove the handle (indicated in the photo above). It is attached to the rod with a locking screw, or, in the simple case, is secured with a spring-loaded locking pin. We unscrew the screw with a screwdriver or a hexagon, depending on the shape of the groove on it. If we are dealing with a spring-loaded pin, then you need to press it inward with a nail and forcefully pull the handle away from the door.
  2. By removing the handle, we gain access to the socket. If the mounting screws are visible on the socket, then by unscrewing them we can immediately remove it from the rod. But more often there will be a special overlay on top of the fasteners (a decorative flange - in the photo above it is labeled as a socket). It will have a groove where it meets the door, by which it can be pryed with a screwdriver and removed. Perhaps the trim just needs to be turned counterclockwise if it is held on by the thread. By removing the decorative trim we gain access to the mounting screws that secure the socket itself. Since access to them is open and nothing is in the way, they will be easy to unscrew with a screwdriver.

It happens that the socket, just like the handle in other designs, has a hole in the end: there is a spring-loaded pin in the recess. In this case, to remove the socket, you need to press on it with a nail, while simultaneously pulling the socket off the rod. If you find a hole, but there is no pin in it, this means that when installing the handle, the socket was turned around its axis and the pin is located somewhere else. You can find it by smoothly turning the socket with a nail inserted into the recess until the nail rests on the pin.

After disassembling the handle in the suggested sequence, you will be able to determine the exact design of your particular model. And based on its characteristics, draw conclusions about what exactly caused the breakdown and how to fix it.

Types of handles for interior doors

Door handles are sold in two types: “knob” and “rosette”. The handle of the knob is usually hollow and light, while the handle on the rosette is made of more massive materials and is usually non-hollow inside. Over time, when the spring mechanism wears out, the first structure may begin to wobble or even sag. The second is that it will last longer and be more comfortable to use. Accordingly, their prices differ: most budget options— these are knob handles.

The shape of the handles is divided into rotary And push. The push button has classic shape handles: when you press it, the door latch is hidden in the lock body and the door opens. The rotary handle has a ball shape, which makes it less noticeable. In addition to the difference in design, these two designs differ in features that are not obvious at first glance.

The rotary handle is more compact: it is more difficult to accidentally touch it when passing by the door. And if this happens, it will not be as painful as with a push handle. At the same time, using a ball-shaped handle every day with wet or oily hands from cream is very inconvenient - your hands slip. So, if used regularly on kitchen or bathroom doors, the push handle will create fewer problems for you.

Many people have experienced a faulty interior door handle. If it stops working, or problems arise that interfere with the comfortable and unhindered opening of the door, it is worth disassembling it and checking the reason. In the future, determine the cause of the breakdown and eliminate it. If the handle cannot be repaired, it should be replaced with a new one. In this case, you need to know how to disassemble the structure, assemble it or replace it, so as not to call a specialist for help.

Handles are often exposed to people who live in an apartment or house. Therefore, pen breakage is no exception and can happen at any time. In order to find out why the handle broke, it is worth disassembling it and making sure what the reason is. Then repair it or replace it with a new one.

In order to disassemble an aluminum door handle, you need to know what type it is, since the mechanism depends on the model. After this, carefully remove it from the door.

The following types of handles exist:

  • Push;
  • Stationary;
  • Rotary.

The push handle has the shape of the letter “G”. Its mechanism includes a tongue, with the help of which the opening process occurs.

The stationary handle is attached to the door leaf using screws/screws. It may have an axial element and be located on both sides of the door.

The rotary handle has the same mechanism as the push handle. When opening it you need to turn it. The model can be round in shape and look like a ball. To disassemble the handle, you need to remove it. To do this, you need to carefully separate it from door leaf using a screwdriver.

Reasons for disassembly: how to remove the door handle of an interior door

Almost all pens have a similar disassembly process. If you know how to properly disassemble the handle, you can do it in half an hour. To do this, you need to understand how it works in order to unscrew it.

Reasons for disassembling a door handle:

  • Failure – breakdown;
  • Repair work;
  • Replacing the old model;
  • Loss of original aesthetic properties (scratches, abrasions).

If a cheap handle is installed, you should expect that it may break soon after installation. Door handles made in China have a short service life and are inexpensive. That's why many owners install such handles. But in order not to make repairs or replacements every time, it is worth choosing higher quality fittings for the interior door.

During the renovation of an apartment, its interior can change dramatically. The old handle may not fit the updated version of the room/apartment. Therefore, you have to disassemble the previously installed handle and replace it with a new one.

New pen models are appearing on the market. They may have advantages over older models: updated and simplified mechanism, shape, color. Some people exchange old handles for new ones because they saw a product on sale that was better or of higher quality than what they had previously installed. This is also the reason for disassembling the handle.

If the pen has lost its original properties - appearance, then this is another reason to install new fittings. All door handles are subject to frequent exposure. Over time, scratches appear on them, and decorative coating erased. All these flaws spoil the appearance of the metal handle.

Re-painting the handle is unprofitable, time consuming and not always possible. It's easier to replace it with a new one.

Step-by-step instructions: how to disassemble the round handle of an interior door

Exists specific scheme, by which they understand round handles(knob handle or loku). To repair or replace it, you should carefully and carefully disassemble the handle structure. Disassembly will not take much time if you follow the instructions.

Instructions for disassembling the round pen:

  • Prepare necessary tools for work (screwdriver, wrench with stop);
  • Remove the trim around the handle;
  • Press the open stop with a special key;
  • Turn one handle (keep the other one stationary);
  • Pull the handle on one side and remove;
  • Unscrew the screws;
  • Remove the handle on the other side;
  • Unscrew the screws (they hold the latch);

Disassembly is done quickly using these instructions. The main thing is to carefully carry out all actions so as not to completely break the mechanism, because sometimes you can replace only one element and it will work.

How to replace a door handle with a lock: disassemble the push model

The push handle model is popular. It is installed not only on interior doors, but it is also suitable for entrance doors if it has a lock in its structure. In order to remove this handle, with a built-in latch or lock, you will need a little time and a screwdriver.

Steps to remove the lever handle from the door:

  • Unscrew the handle (its pressure part);
  • Remove the trim;
  • Unscrew the screws (which are hidden under the cover);
  • Remove the first part of the handle (hold the other in a stationary position);
  • Remove the second part of the handle together with the axial part.

If you need to disassemble the lock itself, then you need to unscrew the plate (from the end of the door). Then remove the mechanism itself.

In the case where the handle moves away from the door, it is not necessary to remove it completely. It is enough to tighten the bolts with which it is attached to the door.

To install the handle, you must first install the mechanism itself, then the handle and screw on the cover.

Sometimes the reason a pen doesn't work well is because it needs to be disassembled, cleaned of dust or lubricated. Or turn over the fittings if they have taken the wrong position over time.

How to disassemble a lock on an interior door (video)

The door handle is an integral part of the door design. Therefore it should work properly. It is not necessary to call a technician to replace or repair the door handle. It is enough to know a little about the mechanism of the handle that needs to be removed and take into account the instructions for disassembling it. In order for the door handle to work smoothly: it does not make sounds, it turns or presses well, the latch does not jam, you need to periodically lubricate its component parts of the mechanism and clean them from accumulated dust.

Any door handle has its own lifespan and is subjected to significant loads every day. Therefore, sooner or later, the question arises of replacing the old pen directly with a new one. Basically, all door fittings are installed by employees of the manufacturing company where the doors were purchased.

But when the handle fails, in most cases you will have to disassemble it yourself at home. Precisely, in such cases, you will need certain knowledge and information about the process of disassembling any door handle.

So, from the beginning it is imperative to determine what type the broken handle is, because the process of disassembling it depends on this. IN modern world exists huge selection door handles, having a very diverse design and shape. But, in general, they can be divided into several main types.

Lever handles

Lever handles are typically installed on both interior and exterior doors. They are characterized door latch, which goes inside the door leaf when you press the handle. In the normal position, the metal latch tongue is extended.

Such handles are mainly found on doors that are equipped mortise locks. The linings for such handles also come in two types: braided (solid) or separate (sold together with the lock included). When disassembling them, you need to remember the place where the latch was located.

Handles - knobs

In most cases, lever handles are designed to be mounted on internal doors. Visually handles of this type, resemble the shape of a ball (but other shapes exist). The keyhole is located in the center door hardware. It is opened with a key only on one side, and on the other there is a button - a lock.

Stationary handles

Stationary handles are available in the form of strips, brackets, round, U-shaped, curly, etc. They are attached directly to the door leaf using screws. Even when purchasing this handle, the kit may include a roller latch, which will secure the door well when closed and open easily when the door is opened.

Now that the type of handle has been determined (it is regular or has a snap mechanism), you can directly begin the process of disassembling it.

1. In the case when the handle was screwed with self-tapping screws, then use a screwdriver to unscrew the main part. Once unscrewed, it is inspected for damage. If repair is impossible, then it is better to purchase exactly the same one instead.

You just need to make sure that the door trim matches the previous type, because at the attachment point there are already previously made holes for screws, which will be very difficult to hide if they do not match the new door trim. Therefore, it is recommended to first dismantle old pen and run with her to the nearest hardware store to buy a new one.

2. This type of handle may also have a common rod; you can verify this in the following way: you need to hold the door handle on one side and turn it counterclockwise on the other. The handle is rod-shaped, in the case when it is unscrewed. If this is the case, then unscrew the element on one side and remove the structure from reverse side, then a similar option for new door hardware is selected. You can replace the old handle, for example, with a version with a latch, only the space from the rod must be covered with a new cover.

3. Handles that have mechanical latches are removed as follows: using a screwdriver, you need to carefully unscrew the screws and at the same time remove the decorative trim that is located around the handle (again, be extremely careful so as not to break something or forget the place where how the removable part was located).

The main components of this type of handle are the tetrahedral lining and the latch tongue mechanism. When the fittings are removed, you can see what the handle is supported on: it happens that a hole is made in the tetrahedral rod, and exactly the same in the handle, then a small rod with a cap is threaded through them. In such cases, the rod is simply removed and the handle is quite easily and simply removed. On the reverse side, you first need to unscrew the lining and remove the handle with the tetrahedral rod.

How to disassemble a round door handle

When disassembling a knob handle (or a round door handle), you must follow some rules, and this process It will be absolutely easy, without any possible difficulties. Typically, this task requires a Phillips or flathead screwdriver, depending on the type of fastener. You will also need a key with a stop, which is provided with the handle when purchasing it. So, we’ll look at how to disassemble a round door handle below.

1. First, you need to use a flat screwdriver to pry and remove the flat trim, which is located around the door handle. Next, take a special key or any sharp and thin object that can be found at home, use it to press the open stopper, while pulling the handle. Then it is carefully removed and several screws are unscrewed from the side where the handle was removed. Now both parts of the handle are removed from the door leaf and only after this can you unscrew the screws that hold the latch in place.

2. There are also cases when there is no need to change the door handle, but you just need to unfold it and then install it in the reverse order. To execute this task, first you need to move the door leaf to the side closed door insert the latch with the beveled side of the tongue and screw this element using two screws.

Next, the part of the handle on which the key mechanism is located is inserted into the desired side of the door. Then with opposite side The clamping part is inserted and secured with two screws. After completing the work at home, be sure to check how the handle turns and whether it easily returns to its original position. If some difficulties arise, the handle needs to be aligned as necessary.

3. Next, the decorative strip is put on and the remaining part is installed in the clamping part. As a rule, a square rod with a metal flat plate must fit straight into the handle; to do this, you need to turn the lock on the handle so that the slot coincides with the same position of the square rod.

4. The final stage is as follows: you need to put on the handle and when it reaches the stopper, retract it, press the clamping part across the axis. Next, the removable part of the handle is pushed in all the way, reaching the clamping structure. The decorative strip is aligned along the groove, and eventually is completely put on. Well, of course, after these steps, the handle is checked for the quality of fixation and operation: you need to turn the handle several times until it stops on each side (that is, on the side of the drum latch mechanism itself, as well as on the side of the latch).

The door handle is the most necessary element for an interior door. It is extremely inconvenient to open a sash - swinging, sliding, folding - without this device, which is why it is a more popular accessory than the same lock or latch.

Door handle: classification

These devices can have quite a variety of forms, but are divided into two large groups.

  • Stationary – have no connection with the lock and are installed as an independent device. The handle serves only to grasp it and open or close the sash. It is usually attached with screws to almost any surface. The design of the handle can be very diverse. The most popular form was and remains U-shaped, in the form of a bracket, which is fixed vertically. If there is still a need to restrict access to the room, a roller latch is mounted on the sash from inside the room. The photo shows a stationary view of the fittings on an interior door.

  • Push ones - their mechanism is somewhat more complicated. The presence of a latch requires cutting into the door leaf and forming a corresponding groove in the frame. When pressed, the spring moves the latch tongue and the door opens. When the handle is free, the latch is in the extended position and the sash can simply be slammed shut. This method ensures a tighter fit of the sash to the frame, which means higher sound and heat insulation of the room.

The mechanism provides the possibility of emergency opening: with front side There is a slot that allows you to use a screwdriver or other flat object to open the locked door.

Push ones are divided into two categories.

  • With a one-piece pallet cover - mounted through a lock. You should pay attention to the axial rod on which the fittings are placed - it should be equal to the thickness of the door leaf. The length of the element can be adjusted. In the event of a breakdown, the entire mechanism must be replaced. The photo shows a sample.
  • With separate escutcheons – installed with or without a lock. What matters here is the size of the pads and the size of the key hole.

  • Knobs - pens round shape, are a type of push-on, but may also be known as rotary. The action is similar, but to open the door you need to turn the knob. Usually the mechanism is equipped with a locking button, pressing which allows you to turn the ball on the other side of the interior door and open it. For emergency tearing, there is also a slot on the front side of the device. In the photo there is a handle-knob installed on an interior door.

How to disassemble a stationary door handle

Since its structure is the simplest, breakdowns associated with stationary fittings rarely occur. As a rule, the need to disassemble the handle arises when the owner wants to change an outdated or unsuitable model. IN in this case The steps are very simple: use a flat-tipped screwdriver to unscrew the screws and remove the handle.

An option is possible when the fittings on both sides of the door are installed on a common axial rod. This is checked this way: the handle is held on one side, and on the opposite side it is turned counterclockwise. If the fragment unscrews, then the fittings are rod-shaped. You just need to carefully unscrew the first fragment, and then remove the second one from the door.

How to disassemble I press the handle

In this case, it will take a little more time, since it is known in advance that both fragments of fittings are connected by one rod.

  1. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the trim. The pallet is removed.
  2. The tetrahedral retaining rod should be inspected. In some models, the axial element and fittings are additionally equipped with a fixing rod with a cap. If this is the case, then the rod holding the element is removed, and the fittings are easily unscrewed from the axle.
  3. The second fragment is removed from the web along with the axial rod. The second cover must first be removed.

How to disassemble round fittings

The sequence of actions is almost the same. To disassemble the mechanism, you will need a flat-head screwdriver and a key with a stop included in the lock kit. If the key is missing, any other object with a thin point will do.

  1. On the side where the nob is located without a key, simply turn it, use a screwdriver to pry up and remove the cover.
  2. The nob fixes the mechanism stopper. In order to disassemble the fittings, you should hold the stopper with a key or other object with a thin end, and remove the released fragment.
  3. Using a screwdriver, remove both pieces of hardware from the front and end sides of the canvas.
  4. The screws holding the halyard latch are unscrewed and the mechanism is removed.

The video shows how to disassemble the door handle in more detail.

Today there are a huge number of different types of door handles. All of them are quite reliable, but sometimes they still have to be replaced or repaired. However, a problem arises here - not everyone knows how to disassemble This is the most necessary element of furniture in everyday life.

How to properly remove a door handle mounted on an interior door yourself? Read about it below.

Reasons for dismantling

In most cases, it is necessary to disassemble the handle if:

  • she got loose;
  • fell into disrepair;
  • the lock itself needs to be replaced.

In the first case, there is usually no need to remove it. It is enough to simply tighten the screws holding it, or replace them with thicker ones (if the wood is worn out).

Unfortunately, budget versions of handles, in principle, cannot last long, and besides, they are made completely unsuitable for repair. The coating on them is usually quite unstable and will quickly peel off during use. Therefore, when they fail, they are simply replaced with a new one.

Often, during renovations, owners decide to replace old handles with new ones that are more suitable for created design or they just look more modern.

When buying a new set, try to choose ones that are made from good metal with a minimum number of constituent elements. Reliable pressure models, for example, should be equipped with bearings - they can serve you for several decades. By the way, quality is very easy to determine: the heavier the fittings, the higher it is.

The most common types of door handles

Most often, the following three types of handles are installed on interior doors:

  • stationary;
  • nobs (round);
  • push.

The latter variety is considered universal, since it can be equally often seen on both entrance and interior doors. This mechanism in its normal position has an extended locking tongue, and when it becomes necessary to enter the room, the handle is pressed and it leaves the grooves. In this case, a lock is usually cut into the canvas, protected by special pads. In order not to damage the latter, disassembly must be carried out as carefully as possible.

In our country, a round handle equipped with a latch is used only on interior doors. Abroad (for example, in the USA) they are often placed on input. It has a key hole on the outside and a locking button on the inside.

Stationary models are installed mainly on swing doors. This design is convenient, but not very functional. In essence, it is an oblong bar on which a U-shaped bracket is attached. In the simplest versions, no locking mechanisms are provided - the door is closed with a separate bolt. More advanced models also have a roller latch, installed independently.

Prepare the following tools for dismantling:

  • flat and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • thrust wrench (included with the product).

If the model is without bolts (that is, with hidden fastenings), then you need to act in this order:

  • Using a flat screwdriver (being careful not to damage the decorative coating of the door), unclip the trim located at the base;
  • Unscrew the screws hidden under it;
  • use a stop wrench to press directly on the stopper;
  • remove the handle by carefully pulling it towards you;
  • After dismantling, unscrew the screws holding the locking mechanism.

In simpler round models, disassembly is much easier - just unscrew the two long bolts located on the back side on either side of the latch.

In this case, you just need to unscrew the self-tapping screws or screws securing the strip to the door leaf.

Here it is worth understanding that replacing this type of handle must be done with a similar one in size. Otherwise, traces from self-tapping screws will not be hidden. They are especially visible on varnished surfaces.

Individual models are connected with bolts through the door - this method of fastening is convenient for both the manufacturer and the consumer. In this case, you just need to unscrew them from the back and both handles will be removed.

Lever handle

All that is required is to remove the trim (in most models it is connected to the handle). In more simple options you just need to unscrew two screws from the door leaf.

In advanced ones, all fasteners are hidden behind a decorative cap - it either snaps off or is screwed onto a thread. By removing it, you will have access to 3-4 screws that need to be unscrewed with a screwdriver. Don't forget to also remove the clamping screw installed directly on the handle - it secures the square pivot rod. After this, disassembly can be considered complete.

Assembly nuances

Before placing the handle in its intended place, secure the locking mechanism - turn its oblique surface in the direction of closing the door.

It is important to tighten all screws and screws as tightly as possible - the better you do this, the longer they will not come loose.

After assembly, check how the mechanism works - the latch should fit freely into the groove and ensure reliable fixation.
