Curtains in the nursery

For each child, his room is like a separate world in which he feels safe and alone. More precisely, not so - you have to make this world so. And it's not only about the attitude towards the child and all kinds of support for his interests regarding the room, but also in the design of that very nursery. Every detail is important - from the color of the wallpaper and curtains to the chairs.

Features of the interior of the children's room

The interior of a children's room should combine practicality and originality. The first is for the parents, the second is for the child.

Most often, bright colors are chosen for the nursery - wallpaper, curtains, furniture. This is a common mistake, and that is why - repairs in a children's room are not done for a year or even two, and a bright environment may eventually get boring for a teenager. Choose those shades and colors that the child may later like - and give up brightness in everything. It is better to pay attention to the basic calm tones, and complement the design with bright accents.

Of course, over time, you will still have to change the interior of the children's room. A so-called evolution may occur - from a cute children's room to an almost adult teenage shelter. These metamorphoses are the main difference between the interior of the nursery and the design of any other room. The children's bedroom seems to be changing along with its occupant. Children's curtains are gradually replaced by quieter or photo-curtains with images of their favorite groups or idols. The child, in the process of growing up, brings the traits of his personality into the room. You need to be prepared for the fact that a teenager at some point wants to repaint the walls or buy new curtains.

What to look for when choosing

How to choose curtains for a children's bedroom? First of all, when decorating a nursery and choosing curtains, you should pay attention to the gender of the child. On his preferences, his personality and favorite colors. For children of different sexes, if they live in one room, it is very important to divide the room into two zones - boyish and girlish. It would be a very interesting idea to hang different curtains - this way you can emphasize his individuality, and her, and not offend anyone.

Modern children develop very quickly, so do not forget about their opinion - after all, they should sleep in their room, not their parents. Listen to your children and remember that the adult's goal is to create a comfortable, safe and practical space for the child. In the style he wants. If he wants pictures in the style of fantasy, then it will be so; if he wants monochromatic curtains, so be it. This is also a very important psychological aspect - the child will know that he is trusted.

The only thing parents really need to worry about is safety. For example, it is better to choose reliable curtain rods for curtains, so that the child does not accidentally knock something off during the game and does not get hurt. It should be attached to the wall as firmly as possible.

Choosing a shape

Beautiful curtains can be an excellent feature of the interior of a nursery - if during its design it seems that something is missing, pick up other curtains. In addition to fabric and color, the shape of the curtain is of great importance. Their durability will largely depend on it.

Curtains with tulle are a classic option, including for a nursery. Tulle can act as an accent or background. You can choose a brighter color as an accent, and a quieter color as a background. Lush tulle curtains in the girl's room will look very beautiful, and straight sea tones in the boy's room.

Combined curtains are a great option for a kid's bedroom. It can be curtains from two different materials (different in texture, of course), two-tone curtains - contrasting or similar shades. There are two design options associated with combined curtains: contrasting or harmonious. In the first case, two opposite shades are taken, in the second, two adjacent colors. For a children's room, it is better to dwell on the second option and supplement it with several bright accents - after all, sharp colors are not quite a suitable option for a child's psyche.

Corner curtains should completely follow the curve of the window. When choosing them, you should understand what you want to achieve - hide the window or make it more visible. Corner curtains can be a great interior accent. When choosing them, you should think about a specialized cornice - also an angular one. In the case of a small corner window, one exception can be made - curtains here can look very elegant and appropriate.

Short curtains

If the child has a habit of touching and pulling everything towards him, you should not choose long curtains for his nursery, so that he does not have such a desire. Short curtains are generally a very practical and convenient option - they are easier to wash and hang, you can choose several sets for different seasons in order to somehow revive the interior of the nursery.

Such curtains should at least reach the windowsill or end over the table - after all, the main role of curtains is to hide the child's life from prying eyes and prevent the penetration of light. Therefore, it is not recommended to choose shorter curtains at all. There are several types of short curtains that can be suitable for the interior of a nursery: these are French, Austrian and Roman curtains.

French ones consist of many horizontal folds, separated by vertical lines, and refer to roller blinds - that is, they do not move apart, but rise up. French folds are located throughout the fabric. French curtains are good because they can be static - this is very convenient for rooms in which there is already a lot of light, and the curtains play a purely decorative role. For these curtains, they choose translucent fabrics, fabrics that drape themselves under their own weight, and smooth fabrics.

But Austrian curtains, on the contrary, have folds only at the bottom. They are an excellent solution for large windows, shuttered windows. They are sewn, as a rule, from heavy noble materials - velvet, damask. Recently, silk and taffeta have also been used. They belong to roller blinds and in a children's room can look like real clouds of pastel color. Perfectly combined with headbands and bows, they look very delicate.

Roman shades are very similar in appearance to blinds. Only a little softer and more comfortable. They are usually made of linen, cotton and polyester. Ideal for minimalist rooms. These curtains are space-saving, easy to clean and easy to manage - what more do a young child and their parents need?

Curtain accessories

Don't forget about accessories. Curtains and lambrequins are not the most suitable option for a children's bedroom, but there are also a huge variety of other decorations. For example, curtain tiebacks. These are holders for curtains, thanks to which they keep their shape and do not fly in all directions. The tie-backs can be bright or ideally match the tone of the curtains - it all depends on the effect you want to achieve. Ties in the form of flowers or cartoon characters will look very cute - after all, we are talking about a children's room.

Of course, curtains are considered to be an accessory for decorating windows. But they have also been used for a long time for doorways and for arches. A bed with curtains is a separate conversation. It is suitable for both adults and children who love solitude and peace. As a rule, choosing curtains for a bed is not so difficult - it is based on the principle of choosing ordinary window curtains. The only pleasant "but" - heavy fabrics, canopies and lambrequins are also suitable for the bed. But washing them is very difficult, as well as hanging and taking them off. Lightweight organza or cotton is a good alternative to heavy curtains. In the interior of a nursery, they will look even better than heavy, bulky curtains.

The best materials for the nursery

The first thing you should pay attention to when choosing curtains for a nursery is the fabric. It should be simple and practical, but also pleasing to the eye. Don't over complicate the cut or create complex color combinations. Everything beautiful is simple.

But the fabric is worth seriously thinking about. It should be easy to wash and not tear, because children, especially at an early age, have a habit of spoiling and dirtying things through carelessness. The fabric should not cause allergies, irritations and shedding.

The best option would be linen and cotton curtains. They are smaller than synthetic ones, collect dust and do not electrify. However, cotton and linen curtains tend to crumple quickly. Very often they sew curtains from coarse calico, taffeta, satin, chintz and guipure.

Silk, corduroy and velvet are completely unsuitable for a small child's bedroom. Of course, they look beautiful and rich, but they are completely impractical. But silk, for example, wears terribly, which can pose a huge problem for parents of creative kids. The price also plays a role here - silk is not cheap.

Heavy fabrics (corduroy and velvet) accumulate dust more than all other fabrics. They are heavy, difficult to remove and wash, and are allergic. Leave such chic fabrics for the library or living room.

Veils and tulle, devore will be a good complement to curtains made of cotton or linen, organza, but they can also be used in solo. These fabrics transmit light well and hide from passers-by - they will be an excellent option for a nursery on the ground floor with windows facing a noisy street.

Organza is the very thing for true princesses. She transforms the room into the most real royal chambers, shimmers in the sun, shines with mother-of-pearl. In addition, organza has a high density and does not wrinkle, it is resistant to many chemicals, which guarantees color fastness. In the interior, organza can play both its own role, used separately, and an additional, purely decorative role. Organza is easy to decorate with a pattern or a photo of your choice, some kind of embroidery.

Ideas for a boy's room

It is believed that after the age of five, children already begin to fully realize their gender. Boys are drawn to purely boyish things - cars, boats, and girls to everything soft and beautiful, like a real princess.

As a rule, boys prefer cool colors - these are all kinds of blue and green shades. If you decorate the room in these colors, the probability is high that the boy will be satisfied with it. Remember that all interior details must fit together - and if you suddenly decide to create a room in a purely nautical style, then modern cars should not be present there.

But, before taking on such a responsible matter as choosing curtains or even decorating a nursery, you should find out what the baby is fond of. For example, if he is a fan of the cartoon "Paw Patrol", then the curtains with the characters of this particular cartoon will be a real pleasant surprise for him. Classic options for prints on curtains in a boy's room - cars, with owls, with giraffes or other animals. It can be photo curtains with real animals, and cartoon sketches.

Stars will look very interesting - clusters of large or small five-pointed stars, or a real imitation of the starry sky. Remember that the main thing is that the child likes it.

If the boy does not have any particular preferences for something, then the ideal option would be plain curtains in his favorite colors. The same applies to the already grown up boys. Minimalism and simplicity are always in fashion.

Ideas for a girl's room

Psychologists have proven that girls are much more flexible creatures than boys. This also manifests itself in the design of the room. If the boy would never agree to bright pink or red details in his room, then the girl, on the contrary, will only be glad to see both turquoise or green curtains and yellow or pink curtains in the nursery. In general, be prepared for the fact that she will decorate her room herself - just manage to buy everything.

From childhood, girls have the same craving for everything beautiful and bright. Curtains with butterflies or fairies, maybe in large or small polka dots, will look very interesting in a girl's room. Do not forget about additional accents - like posters or small figurines of your favorite characters or animals. Girls love it. But do not overdo it - from the abundance of accents dazzle in the eyes.

There is another interesting idea for decorating a girl's room. For the crib of a real princess, a canopy is suitable - so that she feels safe, so that she is comfortable. It looks really gorgeous.

A teenage girl, quite possibly, will no longer need all these ruffles and bows - perhaps an ordinary curtain and tulle will be enough for her. But this does not mean that they should not be beautiful and elegant - it is worth taking a closer look at both multi-colored and plain fabrics.
