How to remove gray from tulle at home

Over time, the curtains need to be washed. But before starting it, you need to figure out how to wash the tulle, whether it is possible to use a washing machine and which mode to give preference to.

Machine washable curtains

Do not be afraid to use a washing machine to wash your curtains. After all, if you know how to wash tulle in a washing machine correctly, you can avoid a long and laborious process.

Before sending the curtains to the wash, you have to figure out what material they are made of. The temperature mode of washing depends on this:

  • Organza curtains can be machine washed in a hand wash mode or delicate, at a temperature of 30 degrees. It is highly undesirable to squeeze organza curtains.
  • Polyester curtains can be machine washed at normal temperatures between 40 and 60 degrees. Do not wring out.
  • It is recommended to wash curtains made of voiles, muslin at the same mode as organza products.
  • The nylon curtain is machine washed at 40-60 degrees.

Having figured out which washing mode to use, you will also have to figure out how to prepare and wash the tulle. For this:

  • Remove the curtains and dust them off.
  • Fill a bowl or bath with water, add a tablespoon of salt.
  • Soak the product in salted water. Then rinse with clean water.
  • Fold the tulle and place it in a laundry bag. If one is not at hand, you can use a pillowcase.
  • Place the tulle in the washing machine, add powder or and wash on the appropriate setting.
  • At the end of the wash, let the garment rinse out of excess water. Hang up the curtains without waiting for it to dry completely. In this way, under its own weight, the wet product will straighten out, it will not need to be ironed.

What to do if the tulle turns gray

Do not rush to throw away the tulle, which has turned from snow-white to gray. It is enough to know the little tricks on how to remove the gray from the tulle.

You can revive your favorite curtain with a solution based on water and salt. This method is used to wash curtains at home with a pre-soak.

You can return whiteness to an organza, veil, nylon product in the following ways:

  • Pour 10 liters of water into a basin or bathroom (depending on the size of the product), add 2 tablespoons of salt. Stir in the saline solution and place the grayed tulle in it for 2 hours. After the time has elapsed, rinse the product in clean water.
  • Soak the curtain in a baking soda and water solution. Its recipe is similar to that of a saline solution. Place the curtain in a container and after 2 hours rinse thoroughly in clean water.
  • Wash the curtain and place it in the solution. To prepare it, dilute 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon of ammonia in 10 liters of water. Soak the curtain for half an hour, then rinse.

Wash the yellowed tulle

A yellowed curtain can be salvaged if handled correctly. And it is not necessary to use expensive means for this, because you can wash the tulle, get rid of yellowness at home, using improvised substances.

There are several proven ways to wash the tulle, return it to its snow-white color, and get rid of yellowness. If your curtains are made of organza or nylon, then:

  • Soak it in warm water, adding soap or detergent, or place the product in the machine and wash at the appropriate mode.
  • While the product is being washed, prepare a solution of soda, salt or brilliant green. Dissolve soda or salt in the amount of a tablespoon in 10 liters of warm water.
  • Having decided to wash the tulle at home using brilliant green, be careful, observe the recommended proportions, soaking time so as not to spoil the product. In order for the yellowed tulle to regain its former whiteness, dilute 10-15 drops of brilliant green in 8-10 liters of warm water and mix the solution thoroughly. Immerse the curtain in it, and after 1.5-2 hours, remove and rinse by hand, or place in the machine on the rinse mode.

Knowing how to wash the tulle, return it to its former whiteness, you will be able to admire it for many years to come.

Removing greasy stains

Oily stains on the curtains are inevitable. Especially often stains appear on products that decorate kitchen windows. In order for greasy spots not to spoil your favorite tulle, it needs special processing.

You can remove greasy stains with a dishwashing detergent or by preparing a stain remover with your own hands. How to wash tulle correctly to get rid of greasy stains:

  • In a container, mix 4 tablespoons of ammonia and vinegar, add a tablespoon of salt and mix thoroughly.
  • Apply the mixture to greasy spots, rub well.
  • Wait 15 minutes, then wash and rinse the product.

With this method, greasy spots quickly disappear, and the likelihood of tissue damage is prevented.

Soot marks

Soot stains can ruin any thing, including snow-white tulle. In order not to aggravate the situation, the product needs timely proper washing.

To remove soot stains:

  • Soak the tulle in warm water, treat the stains with laundry soap.
  • After this stain, you will need to degrease; for this, a dishwashing detergent that effectively removes grease is suitable. Apply it to the dirty areas, rub in, and place in a container of water, into which add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda (for 5-10 liters of water).
  • Leave the tulle for 8-9 hours. After the time has passed, wash and rinse the product.
