Description:

This material is rightfully considered one of the most budgetary top coverings of the roofing carpet. The basis of Bikrost HKP is fiberglass coated on both sides with a binder consisting of oxidized bitumen and filler. The upper protective layer is made of coarse-grained granulate, providing resistance to UV rays.
The lower side of the web is covered with an easily melted polymer film.

Application:

Bikrost HKP is used exclusively for the top layer of the roof, it has a protective crumb on top, and a melted film on the bottom. The advantage of this material is that it has a fiberglass base, it is an economy class fiberglass material, it is used on a non-loaded structure and saves money. For the reinforcing layer of the roof, you can use Bikrost TPP - this is a lining material on a solid fiberglass base.

Laying:

Before starting work, the surface must be prepared. Bikrost HKP is laid on the base by fusing with a propane torch. This technology, unlike traditional gluing, makes the laying process safer, faster and more cost-effective.

An integral part of the process of arranging the roof of any building is its waterproofing. Moreover, the choice of one or another material directly depends on the type of roof. In this article we will talk about such a popular material as Bikrost - what it is, what are its varieties and technical characteristics. In addition, we describe the sequence of work with this material, give a few recommendations.

"Bikrost" - what is it

Bikrost roofing is one of the affordable types of rolled materials, which is of noticeably higher quality than, say, ordinary roofing material. The main purpose of such a roof is to protect residential or industrial buildings from moisture and damage to ceilings, load-bearing structures and other property. It is worth noting that bicrost is most preferable in the case of flat or slightly sloping roofs.

We can name the following examples of the use of this material:

  • arrangement of the upper or lower layers of the roof;
  • providing waterproofing of load-bearing structures in large engineering structures - bridges, tunnels and others;
  • replacement of old roofing materials whose service life has expired;
  • laying on a hard subfloor in rooms requiring additional waterproofing, such as basements or basements.

Roofing material bikrost consists of the following components:

  • polymer film and a layer of fine gravel;
  • oxidized modified bituminous layer;
  • fiberglass - fabric or canvas;
  • another layer of modified bitumen;
  • a layer of polyethylene film to protect the bicrost from sticking together during transportation and storage.

Among the main advantages of the material are the following possibilities:

  1. The working temperature range of the material is from -30℃ to 50℃.
  2. Bicrost laying can be carried out at an air temperature of 0 ℃ (details: "").
  3. The structure of the material ensures its high mechanical strength.
  4. Provides high quality insulation and waterproofing.
  5. The service life of the material is at least 10 years.
  6. Bikrost can be used to repair a damaged roof by laying it on top of the old coating. In addition, it can also be used as the main roofing material.
  7. Installation is very quick and easy.
  8. The material is available to most buyers due to its low cost with good quality.

Mounting method

By and large, no special skills are required to work with bicrost. However, you still have to acquire a certain set of tools and monitor compliance with certain standards.

In order to cover the roof with a bikrost, you need to perform a certain list of works.

At the initial stage, preliminary preparation of the roof should be performed. The old, worn-out waterproofing coating must be dismantled and the surface cleaned of dirt.

If the previously laid material has been preserved in good condition, it can serve as the basis for laying the bicrost. However, it will need to be prepared for additional processing before further laying of new waterproofing.

The next step is the actual processing of the rough surface. In this case, there are a number of subtleties. In particular, if cracks are found on the old coating and it has become permeable to moisture, it will need to be repaired. All cracks are filled with bituminous mastic, which is able to clog defects, returning the material to its original properties. However, this method is applicable only in cases where the total damage area does not exceed 10% of the surface.

After the mastic has completely dried, the treated surface is covered with a primer layer. It is needed for the subsequent adhesion of the bicrost to the old insulating material and to prevent delamination of the roof.

Now you can get to work with the bicrost. Since it is sold in rolls, before laying it, it must be rolled out on a flat surface and left for a while to straighten it out. After that, the material is cut to the specified dimensions.

During the laying process, in order for the bicrost to adhere to the roof surface, it must be heated. To do this, you will need a propane or butane gas burner.

Start work from the edge of the roof. Heating the end of the roll with a gas burner, it is pressed to the surface. Next, the roll is gradually rolled out on the roof and heated. At the end, the laid bicrost is rolled with a heavy hand-held iron roller so that the material grabs well.

As soon as the laying of the first roll is completed, you must immediately take on the next one. The installation of each next layer of bicrost is carried out with an overlap of 10-15 cm. Thus, complete tightness of the seams is achieved, and moisture does not enter the space between the rolls.

After laying, the tightness of the joints must be checked, since any pores and gaps will lead to a violation of the integrity of the coating.

  1. Before starting work, the roof surface must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust, and shortcomings and defects in the rough coating must be eliminated.
  2. The installation of the bicrost must be carried out from the bottom up so that the water is gradually drained from the roof.
  3. It is convenient to roll out and warm up the rolled material using a hook without sharp edges.
  4. To work at height, workers must be provided with safety belts.
  5. Since the operation of gas burners can be hazardous to health, work should be done in special clothing and a respirator.

Varieties of "Bikrost"

Manufacturers make bicrost of two varieties - lining and roofing, therefore, they are marked with the letters "P" and "K".

For laying, "Bikrost P" is used as a waterproofing intermediate layer. It has a double-sided bituminous base, and is covered with a fusible film on top.

But "Bikrost K" serves as a finishing waterproofing material for roofing. The lower part of such a coating consists of bitumen, and fine and coarse-grained granite chips are located on top.

Explanation of designations

There are a number of varieties of Bikrost roll material, therefore, to determine the composition, it is marked with a three-digit letter code.

Here is the decoding of the letter designations:

  1. P - the presence of a polymer film.
  2. K - large gravel crumb.
  3. M - mineral dressing with a fine fraction.
  4. C - the basis of the material is standard fiberglass.
  5. T - frame fiberglass is used.
  6. X - the base is made of fiberglass.
  7. E - polyester non-woven fabric in the basis of the material.
  8. A - the basis is a specialized cardboard.

The brands KhPP, TKP, HKP, Chamber of Commerce and Industry are in the greatest demand, EKP bikrost and other products are also of very high quality, although they are bought somewhat less frequently. In addition to the composition, the marking indicates such characteristics of the bicrost as weight in kg / m 2, as well as the color of the mineral crumb and the specifications used in the production. Note that the thickness of the bicrost will also depend on the component composition, which it is desirable to take into account when carrying out work.

Material Specifications

The technical characteristics of bicrost, depending on the brand of products, may differ slightly, since their component composition is also different.

Consider the main parameters of various grades of material:

  • Bikrost HPP- This is a material used primarily as a lining waterproofing. It is based on fiberglass, on which a layer of bitumen is applied on both sides. The upper part of the roll material is covered with a protective film that prevents the layers from sticking together. The characteristics of the HPP Bicrost do not allow its use for any other purposes, since it does not have high mechanical strength.
  • Bikrost brand HKP is more durable, so this material is used as the main roof. In this case, fiberglass also serves as the basis. On the front side, a layer of mineral crumbs of a large fraction is applied to the base, and a layer of oxidized bitumen is located below. A fusible film protects the rolled material from sticking together.
  • TCH- This is a kind of bicrost, which is based on fiberglass. The front part of the material is covered with a mixture of bitumen with gravel dressing, and the wrong side consists of a bituminous layer. This bicrost has good mechanical strength and is mainly used for inverted roofs.
  • Bikrost CCI at its core contains frame fiberglass, which is covered with bituminous layers on both sides. Therefore, this type of material is used to perform lining waterproofing. This kind of bikrost shows itself well in combination with the HKP and TKP brands.
  • Bikrost SPP- This is the cheapest type of rolled waterproofing. It consists of a base layer of standard fiberglass, which is coated with a mixture of bitumen with fine granite granules on one side and oxidized bitumen on the other.

Storage conditions

Please note that bicrost roll wrappers tend to stick together. Therefore, you need to store it only in an upright position, without stacking several rolls on top of each other. If stored improperly, even protective films are not able to prevent sticking.

In addition, bikrost should be stored only indoors, without direct sunlight and precipitation, at a temperature not lower than -10 ℃.

Results

Thus, thanks to the variety of bikrost types, everyone will be able to choose the best option for themselves and enjoy a serviceable protected roof for many years. At the same time, installation will not take much time and effort.

The rolled cloth "Bikrost" of the manufacturer "TechnoNIKOL" is a modern material used in roofing. This product, due to its technical characteristics, significantly improves the quality of waterproofing and facilitates this time-consuming and dirty process. Practical experience of use shows that the product, along with the advantages, has disadvantages that the consumer needs to be aware of.

Structural composition

The main purpose of the material is to create an absolute tightness of the coating. Since we are talking about a roof, this means a high level of water resistance of the canvas. This applies to all types of building materials. The product has a two-layer structure and resembles a sandwich.

Synthetic polyester fiber or fiberglass, viscous bitumen mixture or bitumen modified with polymers, applied on both sides under high pressure, was taken as the basis. Three letters in the classification terminology of the material give information about the composition of the canvas.

The reinforcing (main) layer or the first letter can be indicated by the symbol:

  • "X" (fiberglass);
  • "C" or "T" (fiberglass);
  • "E" (polyester fibers);
  • "O" (cardboard backing).

The surface coverage information is indicated by the second letter:

  • "K" (shale screening or granular rock);
  • "P" (polymer film);
  • "M" (mineral sand).

The third letter in the marking is the coating on the back of the material:

  • "P" (polymer film);
  • "M" (mineral mixture).

The material is produced in the form of a rolled web with a width of 1 m and a length of 7 to 15 m. The weight of the package also depends on the footage. It can be 30-45 kg. The fabric consumption during use is calculated taking into account the overlap (approximately 8 cm).

The material is in demand due to its wide application. It can be used when covering the roof, including its sloping options. Trademark products are suitable for use as a vapor barrier and waterproofing, suitable for restoration, renovation of roofs. The material has a relatively affordable price, which is consistent with the declared qualities of the material.

Characteristics

The parameters of the material and its distinctive properties are confirmed by certificates and other documentation that must be viewed when choosing a product. The product is applicable to different types of roofing. It can be used on straight and flat planes, there are several main characteristics.

It is worth noting the advantages of this material.

  • Plasticity and flexibility. This indicator is important, because at low temperatures the web does not bend well and is prone to cracking. Brittleness is detected at -15 degrees (this applies to the HPP model).
  • The material has good heat resistance parameters. These useful properties make it possible to avoid the spreading of the fabric from the reinforcing coating at high temperatures.
  • Breaking strength. The reinforcing mesh can withstand up to 30 kg of tensile load, while the bitumen is not damaged.

  • In addition, the material is water-absorbent. During the day, it absorbs water in the amount of 1% of its own mass.
  • The high fire safety of "Bikrost" is due to its compliance with the flammability of B3. It belongs to the class of combustible materials G4.
  • Ease of installation, installation in a short time. Installation can be done within a few hours.

  • The main disadvantage is a short service life - about 5 years (with the exception of fiberglass-based material, which lasts from 7 to 10 years).
  • Builders note that the material is quite heavy, and this is an undoubted shortcoming in the conditions of work on the roof.
  • The workflow will require special construction tools and a gas burner, otherwise you can not hope for a quality result.

Features of different types

The two main types of Bikrost material have some differences. These are waterproofing sheets, most in demand for roofing.

  • "Bikrost K"- products used for the top layer of the roof. Its outer surface is made of coarse shale or sand, the thickness of the material is 3.7 mm.
  • "Bikrost P"- a distinctive characteristic of the product is a protective bottom layer in the form of a polymer film, the total thickness is 2.7 mm.

It is worth noting other varieties.

  • CCI- frame fiberglass, obtained by weaving glass threads and impregnated with a mixture of bitumen. It is considered the most durable. Top and bottom has a protective polymer film. This coating can last up to 7 years.
  • HPP used for the bottom laying of a multi-layer roofing carpet. The base of the material is fiberglass treated with a bituminous and polymer mixture, covered on all sides with polyethylene.
  • HKP is based on fiberglass. From the outside, it has a slate topping. On the inside is a polymer. The canvas does not fade under the influence of the sun and is considered sufficiently durable due to the protection using granulate.

  • TCH- refers to especially durable varieties, the basis is fiberglass. The upper side, in addition to bitumen, is covered with gray roofing granulate (shale grit). This type of soft roof is suitable for ballast and unloaded flat roofs. This is the most expensive product, the cost of which is determined by high quality and reliability.
  • EKP- a plastic type of waterproofing sheet, successfully used for roofs with a slight slope.
  • EPP- material suitable for thermal insulation, coated on both sides with a polymer film.

It is not necessary to do only one layer of waterproofing. With the help of two layers of "Bikrost" (HPP and HKP), superimposed one on top of the other, a higher quality of the coating is achieved, the service life is increased up to 12 years.

Installation of waterproofing

You can install waterproofing materials of this brand yourself. At the same time, it is desirable to have basic knowledge of the process and observe safety precautions. All work is carried out in special clothes and shoes.

For installation you will need:

  • gas stove;
  • propane tank;
  • special roofing knife;
  • bituminous primer;
  • rolling roller with metal needles;
  • hoses;
  • hook;
  • brush;
  • roll cloth.

Preparation comes down to cleaning the surface from old coatings, small debris, moisture and dust. It is necessary to level the plane as much as possible. To do this, use a solution of cement or bituminous mastic.

After that, a primer mixed with gasoline is applied with a brush or brush. Its layer must dry before further work.

  • The roll is rolled out at the place of fixation with a margin of 20 cm on both sides. The excess is cut off, the prepared sheet is folded again.
  • The work should be done together. Rolling is done from the bottom to the top using a hook. At this time, the second worker warms up the material and the roof, trying not to destroy the bitumen layer.
  • This is followed by the connection of the material with the base, after which they pass along the edges with a roller, paying special attention to the seams.
  • After drying the lower part, they proceed to the front coating, using products with granulate to protect against external influences.
  • With a roof slope of more than 15%, the soft roof is fixed along the edge of the cornice, less than 15% - fixed perpendicularly and in parallel.

It is impossible to walk on the coating until it is completely dry.

Roofing materials "Bikrost" are widely demanded products. The waterproofing fabric of this brand is especially popular. This is a relatively affordable material, the cost of which depends on the strength characteristics.

The classic bituminous roofing material, which was traditionally used for waterproofing roofs and external roofing, has been practically ousted from the market by modern materials based on modified bitumen. These include Bikrost roll material, which allows you to mount a reliable waterproofing cake on a flat roof and a roof with a small slope. Laying method - fusing.

Bicrost on a roll

Material Features

Despite the fact that Bikrost is an affordable option, it allows you to provide high quality waterproofing for roofs or other building structures. Depending on the type of material, it can be used as an underlay or top layer of a bituminous roofing cake.

The basis of Bikrost is a material made of glass or polyester fiber. A layer of modified bitumen with filler is applied to the base on both sides - it is bitumen that is responsible for water and vapor impermeability. The material differs from roofing material by an increased amount of bitumen and a binder.

The outer layer of the bituminous cloth intended for the installation of the lining carpet is a polymer film or a fine-grained dressing. Bikrost for external roofing is supplied with an outer protective layer of coarse-grained mineral chips.

Bikrost structure

Shale dressing protects the bituminous layer from mechanical damage and destruction under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Modified bitumen is resistant to cracking at low temperatures, which extends the life of the roof deck.

Application

Bikrost, the top layer of which is a coarse or fine-grained topping, is designed to be used as a finishing layer of a roofing carpet on a flat roof or a roof with a small slope. The material successfully resists atmospheric influences, mechanical loads. But in regions with increased solar activity in hot weather, the canvas softens and can be damaged under high point mechanical loads.

A sheet with protective coatings made of a polymer film is used as a waterproofing and vapor barrier. During installation, the bottom layer is melted, which ensures a snug fit and high adhesion of the elastic material to the prepared base. The absence of coarse-grained dressing in Bikrost, intended for arranging the lining carpet, contributes to the high-quality adhesion of the upper layer of the roofing cake to the lower one.

Film-coated bikrost is suitable for waterproofing walls and floors, foundations, basements, ceilings between floors, to create vapor barriers. With the help of this material it is allowed to isolate water pipes, tunnels and other structures.

To weld the canvases, professionals use a propane torch; for self-assembly, they use a technical hair dryer or a blowtorch. In some cases, installation using bituminous mastic is allowed.

Welding of Bikrost cloth

Bikrost is a modern built-up roofing material that is suitable for refurbishment (can be installed in one layer on an old waterproofing cake), for the reconstruction or installation of a roof covering with a rigid base.

Types of Bikrost

The Bikrost marking indicates the type of base and the types of protective layers (top and bottom, respectively). The purpose of the material, the scope of its use depends on this.

The basis of frame fiberglass is indicated by the letter "T", from fiberglass - "X", from polyester fiber - "E". Frame fiberglass, in comparison with fiberglass, has a higher strength, including tensile strength. Cloths based on fiberglass and polyester are used for operation in conditions of light loads.

Bikrost is produced in two grades - for the top layer of the roof (with coarse-grained dressing) and lining (with a protective film layer on both sides). The letter "K" denotes a coarse-grained dressing made of granulate or slate, "P" - a protective polymer film that protects the rolled material from sticking during storage.

TechnoNIKOL Bikrost HPP 1x15m - a budget material based on fiberglass, suitable for mounting a lining carpet on an unexploited roof, for waterproofing walls and floors in rooms, the horizontal surface of foundations.

Bikrost EPP is characterized by higher tensile strength, the scope of use is the same as that of the rolled bituminous web with the HPP marking.

TechnoNIKOL Bikrost CCI 1x15m - due to the base of frame fiberglass, it is suitable for mounting the lining layer of loaded coatings, it can be used to protect horizontal and vertical surfaces of foundation bases from moisture, and it can be mounted on roofs with a large slope.

Bikrost TKP is an affordable material for laying the finishing layer of a roofing pie. Also suitable for waterproofing various building structures.

Bikrost EKP - more durable and elastic, suitable for installation on roofs with a slope, successfully withstands operational loads.

Bikrost HKP is a roofing material designed for operation under high loads. Suitable for pitched roofs, for waterproofing vertical surfaces of structures.

Specifications

Bikrost has good performance properties:

  • 100% vapor and water resistance;
  • maintaining elasticity at low temperatures;
  • resistance to deformation when heated up to +80°C.

The strength of the material depends on the type of base:

  • for fiberglass - 300 N;
  • for polyester fiber - 350 N;
  • for frame fiberglass - 600 N.

The service life for HPP and HKP is 5 years, for EPP and ECP - 7 years, for CCI and TCH - up to 10 years.

Taking into account the strength parameter and other characteristics, Bikrost is superior to roofing material, while remaining in the niche of the most affordable materials, unlike many other rolled bituminous coatings. According to SNiP 23-01, the material is suitable for use in any climatic regions.

Table. Specifications of Bikrost

The standard width of the rolled material is 1 meter. The length can be 10 meters (for Bikrost with a top coating of crumbs) or 15 meters (for a material with a top coating in the form of a film). When calculating how much material is required to equip a roofing pie, it should be borne in mind that the installation of the strips is carried out with an overlap of about 10 cm.

Thickness:

  • HPP, EPP, CCI - 2.7 mm;
  • HKP, EKP, TKP - 3.7 mm.

The weight of 1 m² of film-coated canvas is 3 kg, the weight of 1 m 2 of crumb-coated canvas is 4 kg. Respectively, the weight of the roll, taking into account the length, is:

  • 45 kg for CCI, EPP and HPP;
  • 60 kg for TKP, EKP and HKP.

GOST

Bikrost is a fire hazard class 5 material, it is:

  • flammable (group B3 according to GOST 30402-96);
  • highly flammable (group G4, according to GOST 30244-94);
  • strongly propagating flame (RP3 group, according to GOST R 51032-97).

The manufacture of Bikrost material is regulated by GOST 12.1.005-88 and must meet the requirements of Sanitary Rules No. 1042-73, which were approved by the USSR Ministry of Health and relate to the organization of technical processes. The concentration of harmful substances in the air during the production of bituminous roll material should not exceed the permissible limits.

fire hazard

Bikrost is a fire hazardous material. During the laying of a waterproofing coating or roofing carpet, an open fire is used. Therefore, work with the deposited material requires compliance with all fire safety requirements.

Storage

In order to avoid sticking of the wrappers to each other, the roll material can only be stored in an upright position, protected from precipitation and direct sunlight. The room must be dry. The storage temperature is not lower than -10 degrees, the distance to heaters, heaters is at least 1 meter.

Bicrost is a universal bituminous waterproofing roll material designed for inexpensive roofing and waterproofing with a service life of up to 10 years. It is used at construction sites where there is no need to use expensive bitumen-polymer materials with a long service life.

Bikrost is available in two types:

  • for the lower layer of the roofing carpet and for waterproofing works for various purposes (protection of the lower and upper surfaces of the roll - polyethylene film);
  • for the top layer of the roofing carpet (protection of the lower surface of the roll - polyethylene film, the upper surface of the roll - coarse-grained dressing of various colors).

Knowing what the letters and numbers mean in the labeling of materials, you can quickly understand which one you need.

T, X and E- designation of the base on which the material is made - Tfiberglass, X-glass canvas, E-polyester;
To- designation of the upper protective layer of the roll - coarse dressing;
P- designation of the bottom protective layer of the roll - polyethylene film;
4,0 - a figure indicating the weight of one square. meters of material (the larger the number, the thicker the material).

Bikrost stamps

When choosing a Bikrost brand, you need to know:

  • for what types of work;
  • what service life.

Based on the answers to these questions, it is much easier to make the right choice. Fiberglass-based bikrost are mainly used for waterproofing and roofing work on unloaded roofs with a small slope, which do not experience tensile and tensile loads during operation. Bikrost based on fiberglass can withstand high tensile loads, so it is used on loaded structures.

Scope and method of application of Bikrost

Bituminous rolled materials are used for waterproofing underground and surface structures for flat roofs up to exploited ones. In order for the waterproofing to be reliable and durable, it is necessary to qualitatively prepare the base on which the rolled bitumen material will be laid in the future.

As a rule, a concrete screed serves as the basis, it must be dedusted and degreased with a bitumen primer, and then using a propane torch and other equipment, fuse the rolled material, not forgetting that the overlap between the sheets should be at least 10 centimeters. Thanks to the primer, the adhesion of the screed and the first layer of roofing or waterproofing will be the best. At objects where it is impossible to work with an open flame, bituminous adhesive mastics are used for gluing rolled bituminous materials.
