How to make a flashlight using glow sticks

Many specialized stores sell glow in the dark fluorescent sticks.

Glowing bracelets made from the same elements are also sold; they are used on various holidays.

These are sticks about 20 cm long and 0.5 cm in diameter. They have plastic connectors about 2 cm long.

They come in different colors: red, yellow, green, pink, purple, orange, blue. Sometimes several colors are combined in one stick, this makes the illumination even more original.

For making a flashlight choose your favorite colors, preferably more than two.

Materials

• Glass jars and bottles (whatever you want)
• Rubber gloves
• Scissors
• Old tulle

Step 1

Find some glass jars, such as those used for olives and other foods.

Step 2

Cut a piece of old tulle, its length should be greater than the height of the jar. Place it inside the jar so that it touches the glass.

Step 3

Wear gloves to protect your hands and cut the stick to remove the glow paint.

Step 4

Shake the stick with glowing paint inside the jar until so that stains form on the tulle and glass. They will glow in the dark.

Step 5

Since the plan is to get a beautiful multi-colored flashlight, cut a stick of a different color and do the same as in the previous step.

Step 6

Close the lid of the jar well and shake it.

Step 7

Turn off the lights and enjoy the wonderful illumination.

How to make a flashlight using glow paint

For such a flashlight you need luminous fluorescent paint, you can buy it at an artist store.

This is a paint based on phosphor - a phosphorescent pigment that can accumulate light energy with a long afterglow period.

Depending on the pigment used, it may glow greenish, blue, yellow or pink.

As in the previous case, we suggest mixing two or three colors, then the flashlight will be more beautiful.

Materials

• Glass jars or bottles
• Fluorescent paint
• Brush
• Water for paints (as needed)

Step 1

Mix fluorescent paint with a small amount of water in a clean container. so that the paint particles dissolve little by little.

For protection, use a brush and gloves.

Step 2

Wash and dry the jars well.

Step 3

Using a brush, apply paint to the inside of the can. draw a lot of dots there. The more dots there are, the better this flashlight will glow in the dark.

This process will take some time, but you will really like the result.

Step 4

Hold this flashlight next to the switched on light bulb for a few minutes, then it will glow brighter when you turn off the light.

Although the flashlight will not be very noticeable during the day, you will really like how it glows in the dark.

I came up with such an interesting little thing from a simple coffee jar. It is quite universal. Do you want it to be a stained glass lantern... Or do you want it to be a vase!

I'll tell you how to make such a flashlight.

So, we will need:

• coffee jar
• masking tape
• black acrylic paint (car paint in a can)
• stained glass paints (water-based “Gamma” is suitable for beginners)
• contours on glass (black and gold)
• paper template for drawing
• wire
• tin can lid
• scissors

The jar was washed from the labels and degreased.



On those areas that we are not going to paint over, we stick a self-adhesive film (for me it’s oracal). You can use masking tape.



We cover our jar with black spray paint. Let it dry for about 30-40 minutes.



Has it dried out? Carefully peel off the film. We don't need her now. Our jar is shaped like an antique lantern. This is the image we will start from.



Using a black outline with dots, we mask the uneven torn edges.



Since this will be a lantern, let’s draw a light for it on paper.



We insert our sketch inside and secure it with tape. Draw a flame using a golden outline. And so - from all four sides.



This is what happened. Let the outline dry. One hour is enough.



We paint our light with stained glass paints. From all sides. But! Each side must be completely dry! At least a couple of hours in the horizontal plane. Only then start painting the next one.

I made the handle for the flashlight from copper wire. I just intertwined two wires with each other.

Around the neck of the jar we make the same intertwined rim, fasten our handle and paint it with the same black spray paint. In this case, you definitely need to cover the jar itself with something so that the paint only gets on the neck and the handle itself.

To install the candle, I suggest the following design. It will be clearly fixed in the jar and it will be convenient to light a candle in it.
So, take a tin lid from a tin can and make several cuts.





We bend the edges.

We punch holes in two places and stretch copper wire through them. We bend the edges so as not to scratch the edges of our flashlight.

You can decorate a country area for a romantic picnic or celebration using the simplest items. Here we are talking about making street lamps with candles from empty glass jars. You just need to decorate the jars and make wire pendants.

Color, size and shape to suit your taste, any will do. Everything is quite simple to do with your own hands, having prepared some necessary materials.

To make a lamp you will need:

Glass tanks with threaded neck.
A can of spray paint in the color you want.
Pieces of lace.
Twine or jute mesh.
Steel or copper wire.
Wire cutters.
All-purpose glue or glue gun.
Candles and sand for installation.

Lamps made from cans can be any color, or even just transparent. It’s better to make several lanterns of different colors at once, it will look more interesting in the evening.
We paint the inside of the jars, spray paint or just a brush. Just choose preferably translucent paints, such as water-based ones.

We screw a wire loop onto the neck. The lamps will be hung on this loop outside. Cut a piece of lace ribbon to length so that you can wrap the jar with a slight overlap. The lace must be well glued to the jar; this can be done using a glue gun, silicone, or other transparent moisture-resistant glue. Handles for flashlights are possible.

Another option for a homemade decorative candlestick, for indoor use, can also be made. But the design and manufacturing method are completely different.

Another decorative element is a jute mesh glued on top of the lace.

This basically completes the production of the street lamp.
The length of the candle should not be higher than the edge of the jar. For fixation and fire safety, pour sand to the bottom of the jar to 1/3 of the height and stick a candle in the center.

This is another - very sophisticated, cozy and simple - way to bring a piece of nature into your home. Cute lanterns with delightful diffused warm light, casting mysterious shadows on objects around them, like in a summer garden at night, are suitable for decorating any room and for festive table setting throughout the year. You don't even need a lot of time to work, and the result looks better than purchased modern-everyday room design elements.

Tools:
- a short, strong and sharp knife (if desired, you can cut with scissors),
- ruler,
— a board or special mat for cutting/cutting,
- scissors,
- iron and ironing board or thick fabric and a free, flat surface instead of a board.

Materials:
- waxed or paraffin paper;
- flowers, leaves and herbal twigs from the herbarium - flat dried (or you can take confetti for lanterns for the New Year or for a children's room/holiday);
— decorative adhesive tape (washi tape, sold on the RuNet).

1. Prepare the main material. You or your child may have had the herbarium since the summer. But you still have time until the New Year to dry the leaves and flowers from a small personal “garden on the windowsill”, a gifted bouquet, and ask your neighbors, friends and relatives to collect something similar from your place. You can still find something suitable now even on the street. The key point is that all dried elements used are absolutely(!) dry and absolutely(!) flat. Use the largest book in the house for drying, placing pages with flowers and leaves on the top and bottom with additional paper (optimally paper towels or napkins; and changing them from time to time, because they will absorb moisture - usually every 2 days), and placing a lot of weight on top of the book.

2. Carefully lay out the wax paper on the table: do not crumple it (neither now nor during further work, so clear the surrounding area in advance), otherwise a clear white mark will form at the fold, which cannot be removed later.

Lanterns look best in proportions in the form of a cube, one face of which is 11-12 cm. Each of the 4 vertical “walls” of the lampshade will be 2 layers of wax paper with flowers/leaves from the herbarium “sealed” between them. Therefore, from wax paper we cut 4 sheets of 12 cm in height and 24 cm, respectively, in width.

3. We fold each of the cut sheets no less carefully and very, very evenly in half to get two-layer flat squares.

4. After this, we transfer the first folded waxed sheet onto the ironing board, open it and, according to personal taste and idea, put the dried elements inside, distributing them beautifully, and then close the sheet. Imagine that you are creating a picture: some flowers will go at an angle, others straight, some of them from below, others will “hang” from above or look out from the sides, you can even achieve a feeling of movement (for example, petals “flying” from a flower) to make your lanterns in the dark even more like a night garden.

Don’t be afraid to carefully tear off excess parts from dried flowers. And don't worry if parts of the flowers go beyond the edges of the wax paper: after ironing, you will trim off the excess. By the way, the most interesting will be the lanterns, each wall of which is completely different from the other 3. An interesting combination is obtained if the number of colors in each (or only some) of the walls of each lamp-candlestick is equal to the number of ready-made lanterns that you put in a group: a kind of harmony.

5. Preheat the iron to high temperature in advance. Next, in two graceful and fast - literally fleeting - movements from the center of the square of wax paper with dried flowers inside, without pressing with the iron, iron it up and down. The wax in the paper melts, soldering the sheets and fixing the plants inside. That's it, all that remains is to let the sheets cool and carefully trim off the parts of the flowers protruding beyond the border!

6. And then all you have to do is fold 2 squares evenly, side to side, and evenly stick decorative adhesive tape to the junction. We take it because it is narrow, but it can always be replaced with a completely transparent one, but also narrow! To make the lanterns look better, choose not a variegated decorative ribbon, but, for example, silver or gold.

Glue the squares from the front side, turn them over to the other side, and wrap and glue the ends of the tape on top and bottom over the edge to the wrong side. There is no need to completely seal the joints from the inside out, since decorative tape can withstand the heat from a candle less well than wax paper.

7. Glued - bend the adhesive tape at the junction of the squares so that the flashlight turns out to be square and not round (which, by the way, is also a good option).

8. Continue applying a new square to the next side and glue them together with adhesive tape. The easiest way to deal with the last joint is as follows: lay the glued strip of squares face down, and then simply fold the right and left squares towards each other. Get a plane that needs to be glued at the joint using the same method.

9. Go through the folds again, open your craft - and the flashlight is ready! All that remains is to put a candle inside!

We make lanterns with confetti in exactly the same way, only we scatter thin confetti between the sheets - and they don’t even need to be aligned in one layer.

IMPORTANT! Don't leave these lanterns unattended: even though they're wax paper, they're still paper! Remember that the paper will heat up from the candles, so blow out the candles inside without touching the lanterns. If you place such lanterns on the street or on a table with a busy group of people, it is worth attaching weights to them in the corners so that the lampshades-candlesticks do not accidentally blow away or be swept away by hand.

Slowly, so that the wick does not move or fall, pour the liquid wax into the glass container.

Step 4

When the wax on top has hardened, you can remove the wick mount. If there is a hole in the candle, pour the remaining wax into it.
